I saw Carrot Top a decade ago in Vegas as part of some package of tickets that the casinos were trying to time share people into. Went in not expecting much and spent virtually the whole time crying from laughing. He's a funny dude and the prop thing was only a small portion of his act at that time. Fully recommended.
Same it was a great surprise, he is totally undersold. He needs better marketing. His show is one of the best in Vegas and I've seen many spending thousands. I went twice and he actually changed it too, to current events which gave me even more respect for him.
im honestly surprised. what a total change. hes a talented story teller, and very nuanced. And probably has been this entire time, though like Joe and Carrot agreed on, his appearance before was too distracting. Seems like a reasonable fellow too. I wish him success.
I love Carrot Top because he just acts like a normal person, not like a celebrity. I’ve seen and talked to him in Vegas before. Really cool and normal guy.
I met him in Seattle. When he was Jacked. Very nice guy! He said his name was "Carrot Top". I said "I know that, but what is your actual name." ... "Awesome. Nice to meet you Scott." Then we chatted for a bit drinking beers while other duffeses tried to give him Joke ideas. Then I had to pardon myself from the conversation to watch my gal at the time sing Rock Kareokee. Then later that night, he got up on stage and did Guns and Roses like I've never heard before. This dude can also sing!
I can't imagine how people hate on Carrot Top. Hes genuine and funny, and carries on a conversation better than plenty of other people Joe has had on the show.
Listened to this podcast in full. Carrot Top seems like one of the nicest guys in the world. Extremely interesting. If you can do comedy for 30 plus years, I'd say you've made it.
You don't get a permanent headline gig on the Vegas strip if you haven't made it. It's just weird that Carrot Top isn't one of the top 50 names that people would list, if they had to list comedians. It's like he's a huge success in the grand scheme of the industry, but just under the radar enough that most people think he's D-list, weird or fringe.
You’ve heard of him if you are a bit older. I knew about him when I was younger from Family Guy. His jokes are corny but they’re actually funny if you like that type of humor
JRE is cool for that feeling. A lot of actors/musicians/comedians etc. come on that I don't know super well or have a preconceived idea of them and the interview will change my mind for them. Hot Ones with the wings does that too for me.
I worked in the entertainment industry all my life and I loved working on Carrot top's show when he toured into town. I remember him coming to the crew as we were almost done loading the show out to personally thank us, few do that. Such a down to earth nice guy, he looked much more like a kid back then, natural with a mop of red hair and freckles.
Scott ( Mr. Top ) is a nice guy. He comes in and sets his props up with the local crew and has fun all day every time he has a show with people he doesn't even know. I worked his show a few times and he is truly a very nice man.
I remember seeing Carrot top at local comedy clubs and at a friggin Synagogue before he took off. He was absolutely the funniest comedian on the stage any time I saw him.
@@famousace4652 yeah I know I watched this video, then went over to the app and watched the entire interview, then came back to make a comment because I was actually really impressed with the show and how good of a guest carrot top was. (Having never really watched his stand up)
I'm always amazed at how my perception of people was completely off after I actually hear them have a conversation. Not sure why I never took Carrot Top seriously but I give him his props.
I'm most impressed that instead of getting on dope and getting in a ton of trouble, like most famous people do when they get bored, he went to the gym. I think he's one of the famous people that are good examples to young people who see him on TV. Good job, Carrot Top, keep up the good work.
Saw him in ‘90 or ‘91…in a Holiday Inn in Knoxville, TN. He was a lovable goof and I’ve never seen anything to change my opinion of him. Would love to meet him again and discuss the last 30 years.
i saw him maybe 4 times in a 2yr span.....Last one...we did a meet and greet with him, and we purchased tickets at the top and we got moved to the front( Real nice female usher we were talking to before the meet and greet). She moves up up front corner seats and we were able to fist bump him and take Jack Daniels shots with him when he was doing shots for the crowd. Granted he may add a joke or two here n there but his routine is the same and everytime i went, i laughed as hard as the 1st time i heard his jokes. I want to see him again in Nov. Love his comedy
I've seen a lot of comedy shows. But, I never saw a comedian absolutely destroy like Carrot Top. I saw him 30 years ago on a college campus. He came into a quiet reserved room, and he left the room like he was the Beatles of comedy. Absolutely brilliant comic with a crowd. And that was 30 years ago. I can't imagine how good he would be to see live now.
@@moomoocowsly you have to inject steroids to see real growth. They're not like vitamin pills. Yeah you can get steroid consumables but your organs do not take kindly to that shit. Side effects are awful for minimal gains. Every I know who tried pills started having difficulty seeing and had liver and kidney issues.
I met Carrot Top in a chocolate shop in Aspen. It was just myself, my wife and him. He was stoked by all the decorative chocolates and couldn’t stop talking about how he wanted to try them all. Nice guy.
I’ve always been a carrot top fan. It’s wild as an 11 year old I was introduced to him through MTV and he was HUGE. I thought he had always looked like that 😂 it wasn’t until recently I realized he wasn’t always a human Michelin man! The best vibes
My family and I saw Carrot Top at the Luxor 2 weeks ago, and his show was actually really funny. The best part was that he told the crowd he was gonna be on JRE in the next couple weeks, and we all thought he was f**king with us/ part of the act. Welp, the jokes on us! Edit: I forgot to mention when he walked around the crowd he tickled my brothers beard who is also a Ginger. lol
lol, I've been to his show twice since I liked it so much and I honestly would go a third. He adds new stuff and it's just really fun and funny. It's crazy how absolute garbage so many shows on Vegas are like jabawakies, blue man group, few of the cirque de sole. Terry Fator Christmas show was good but his regular show was so garbage.
@@nelsondln They significantly cut the budget of shows and even move them to smaller venues after popularity has gone down. But keep them because they are a easy cash cow bringing in people based on previous notoriety. It's almost essentially a scam. I have found this out through experience. The one you saw and I saw may as well be completely different shows I assume. Jabawakies was the worst show I've seen in my life, it was moved to a tiny venue on a extremely tiny stage, they did some dancing but no group moves whatsoever and virtually no special effects whatsoever. It was soooo bad. These places they also have fake audience members clapping and shouting like crazy. People were so bad in the jabawakies show yelling what is this shit and some walked out, we got ours for free from comps otherwise we'd have asked for our money back and certainly would never pay for such garbage all while these idiots were hooting and hollering and clapping like it's the best thing they've ever seen. The other pretty good shows I liked besides carrot top were vegas the show when it came out, and cirque de sole beatles. I went to that one three times. O was pretty good too.
@@WaterspoutsOfTheDeep tapeface was a good show. Not sure how he does it now since the pandemic started since his show relies on the audience for a lot of it.
Joe: How'd u get so JACKED? Carrot Top: I used to go to the gym everyday for 3 hours. Joe: Wow, and ...? Carrot Top: Broccoli and chicken.. Joe: And...? Carrot Top: Yep, everyday - 3hrs. a day Joe: And...? Carrot Top: Yep. Joe: Okay.
Carrot Top has to be a great, solid human being. No comic has ever taken as much %$$#@, from other comics, as him. Good for him, still kicking ass and taking names
@@hyeboi nothing about the original comment claimed that joe was in anyway better or more famous or more known than carrot top. Nothing about it at all.
Truly Blessed I just saw his show three months ago in Vegas and got to meet him. OMGOODNESS so incredibly funny, so gifted with his craft. Also an incredibly kind/nice man. But now I totally adore him. ❤️.
Everyone should have an interview like this. I thought he was so annoying because not really a fan of his comedy, it seemed frantic and cringy to me, but this interview has made him so relatable. It's amazing how u can go from ambivalent to liking someone just by getting to know them a little.
I agree, I find a lot of interviews with people who you assume may not be so relatable but then after watching an interview you kinda wish you could be their buddy lol. But unfortunately it seems it goes the other way far to often as well where you will have an actor or a entertainer that you like and then you see a interview with them and you end up regretting it.
Like 99% of people who use the word "cringe" in a sentence these days as I think when I here it. I'm sure he would think you're just another unoriginal dipstick no one really gives a crap about in the first place.
With stench of a "Star Wars Theme" like "Empire Douchelord" following you wherever you go... See, that is an original use of an overused term to describe someone. Got to think outside the box and make something unoriginal your own.
@@chevy79bu You and the original commenter are both right, it's interesting that way. I actually did that with Doja Cat (Amala Diamini) just by randomly seeing some interviews. Seems like a super down to earth, cool person. Just curious regarding your comment, do you have an example of the latter?
When I was growing up, everyone clowned carrot top and I never knew anything about him other than his long red hair and he was a comedian of some sort. He’s embraced himself and doesn’t care anymore about what people think. His comment that stuck with me was “think about the source of where the hate comes from, George Carlin saying I’m funny was all I needed to hear.” Nobody’s will say whatever they want to belittle you but guess where’s it coming from? A nobody. On the other end, George Carlin being the source is a huge difference and an absolute honor to him and you can see it.
I honestly never got to see his onstage act during those times. He had these crappy movies that conveyed him as almost like a weird al for comedy and it translate well to movies. Plus he had this super high pitch voice. But also to add to George carlins opinion. I mean he has to be some type of talented or funny to be doing this all these years and have Vegas shows.
I acted in a movie with Carrot Top back in 2010 for CBS filming in Las Vegas. I remember telling him while hanging out together I still remembered when he was 1st starting out way back in the 1980's when he was really young & skinny looking like a high school kid when he was unknown just starting out making a TV appearance on the Regis Philbin show (long prior to joining Kathy Lee Gifford) in the 1980's. He was impressed I remembered his early beginnings. In fact...we both started in entertainment around the same time. Indeed by the time we worked together over 12yrs ago he was really massive after having gotten into bodybuilding. Friends of mine in Vegas told me all the time they saw him in the gym constantly. I do think he looks better slimmed down some. Always loved his very unique approach to comedy based solely on props...sort of the "Bob Hope" of 1 liners where the prop i as the punchline. Definitely a very unique character who has probably long outlived most people's expectations as a comedian. I've got to hand it to him for sustaining such a long career where comedians come & go in a blink of am eye with only a handful maintaining name recognition decades later. Very interesting guy!
Wasn't expecting to see Carrot Top on JRE. Would love to see Weird Al as well at some point. He's done every other podcast/show...So I'm kind of shocked Joe hasn't had him on
I was a Landscaper in winter park when this was filmed and I saw carrot top jogging while I was working this a long time ago and I still remember it like it was yesterday!!
Why TF would he care? The only people who care about discussing their steroid use are people currently using and pretending they’re natty or professional athletes.
he’s been 140 his whole life … blows up to 190 .. worked out for 3 hours a day? most def juiced to the hilt … he should have talked about it … but perhaps he couldn’t because of his act? Who knows
Saw him in Vegas years ago, great show and he was funny as hell. He was on the escalator in front of us after the show talking to everyone as they exited. Nice dude.
I saw Carrot Top at a show in Chattanooga sometime in the late 90's. Everyone I told about it gave me shit about going but it was one of the best comedy shows I've seen. His props are what he's known for but the dude is genuinely funny and I hate it that people overlook that. I hung out after the show and got a chance to meet him and he was so stoked to see fans wanting to actually meet him. He hung out for longer than I what I would have expected for a famous person.... signed stuff, took pictures, cracked jokes, etc. Carrot Top is fucking funny, fight me!
@@Wodenson5150 There are many originals. Those are the people that turn into legends that are never forgotten. Carrot top was a copycat that everyone will forget about.
THIS is the reason I loved the joe Rogan experience to begin with - this is the best podcast in a long time - all of them are good but this shed so much light on someone I only had misconceptions of before this podcast
I met him to in like 08. I was working for the carpenters local in Las Vegas on the Trump tower on the strip and my room mate whom also worked with said he had a side job at his buddy Scott's house! Which I didn't his name was Scott. So I go help him with this job hanging an antique door he bought for like 30 grand or some crazy shit. So we do this job and no one was home except these 2 super hot playmate types and I'm saying to my buddy Frank who brought me in on this what's this guy do because it was a really nice house in a gated community and then the gate opens and a tricked out yellow hummer comes up in the driveway and out jumps carrot top aka Scott all jacked up and I was like wtf! Lol I look at my buddy like are we being punked! Lol then I met him and we all drank beers and had a good time. He was a super cool dude. I wonder if he even remembers that?
Right. Sometimes it’s good to remind yourself that there are people out there still doing their thing living a good life still doing what they love doing well for themselves. Gives you hope in a weird way for your future that maybe you can too. If that even makes sense.
@@geraltofrivia3344 It's interesting that actors are known for getting tired of doing their thing and rejecting that which they do so well. Comedians, on the other hand, seem to stick with it until their very last breath. I wonder why that is?
@@brianjay9811 I think prolly it’s because it’s hard enough to become a professional comic where you can pay your bills doing it. So most comics are just grateful for the chance to be working. Whereas someone like a famous actor would, I imagine, get burned out and filled with anxiety/depression constantly being under the public’s eye.
@@geraltofrivia3344 There's probably also the buzz of engaging with a live audience, which can be exhilarating. I used to do a lot of public speaking, and it was a mixture of terrifying and the best buzz ever at the same time. I suspect that's why even some of the most successful TV and movie actors occasionally do stage work, they miss that buzz.
I saw Carrot Top in Las Vegas in 1996, when he headlined at the MGM (IIRC). It was so long ago, he was doing his Beavis & Butthead impression as part of the show. He killed the audience, and I remember my stomach hurting the next day on the flight home from laughing so hard. Over 25 years in the business and still headlining; well done, Scott!
I saw Carrot Top 20 years ago in a theater and it still is one of the best comedy shows I’ve ever seen, and I’ve been to every major comedy club in LA and NYC many times
Me too. I saw him in a chandler az 20 years ago. He called me a Hanson in front of everyone because i left to go pee. When i got back the light hit me and it was on lol
Everytime I see a picture of Carrot Top I go "holy sh*t what is going on with this guy", but whenever I see interviews like this he always comes across as a really cool guy. I hope he stays successful with whatever he does.
@@liquidsunshine697 Ok, and I am genuinely happy that he has found success. He deserves it because he kept working at what he loved doing no matter what the haters said.
