Soo Zee and Leigh spend 36 hours in Tongyeong. We learn all about Admiral Yi, the artists and authors who call this place home, and the amazing craftsmen still at large, but let's not lie, the real reason we went at all was for the oysters. Tongyeong oysters are famous and (as we found out) for good reason! #ShotoniPhone

Correction for a term - samdo. Samdo-Sugun Tongjesa means an admiral who rules the navy of the three provinces (Gyeongsang, Jeolla and Chungcheong). Samdo is not three islands but three provinces.

Admiral Yi is kickass. At the battle of Myeongyang, Yi with 13 ships fought against 330* and won. Not only did he win, he never lost a boat in his ENTIRE naval career. I first saw this statistic at the end of the Korean movie, Heaven's Soldiers (highly recommend), but thought it was fake or fictional but upon researching the topic, found out it was true. It's easy to be skeptical like I was until you find out how he did it. In short, the Japanese brought katanas to a cannon fight. Admiral Yi's command of his fleet also played a huge part however as his rival Won Kyun, with a larger fleet, lost to the Japanese every time, once without even fighting and scuttling his own fleet before the fight like a defeatist coward. Admiral Yi is almost solely responsible for defeating the Japanese in what is called the Imjin War or Seven Years War between 1592-1598.

I really enjoyed this video! It felt like exactly the type of trip I take with my friend spread out over a casual weekend. The tone of this video portrayed this so strongly I half wish I could get to Korea just to visit some of these places! Thank you for braving the cold to share it! (Boo to my subscription feed though, the video isn't there, glad I rang the bell and was still notified!)

Lowering the door is good idea to force people to bow while entering your place, unless the visitor walking backward of course....

Soozee probably learned about this in school, but if Leigh is taking KIIP, then she is learning about Korean history as well, so it's fresher in her mind.
