Pure talent and sadly missed except by those of us who understand just what a brilliant songwriter Paddy was and still keep their music alive. You'd think this was mimed it's so close to the studio version....and yet of course it's live and highlights just how good the band were. Bought A life Of Surprises in the mid 80's and play it constantly and consider myself fortunate to have happened on them.
Simply ....one of my all-time favourite bands ever. Was lucky enough to see them live a couple of time and have most of their albums. Totally under-rated - but that's often the case with the most talented bands.
Love the fantastic applause for the band that none of the audience seemed to know. Hoping that they all left with as much love for Prefab Sprout as all of us fans still have today. ❤❤❤
@@Johnmag1976 Just noticed they are playing to a backing track. Not sure if the vocals are live but the music isn't. Back then many Euro TV studios weren't able to do live music recording.
Well said! All three that you mentioned are in my top 5 favorite bands of all time, with Prefab Sprout being my favorite band of all time. Throw in Big Star & Badfinger, you’ll have my top 5.
On this 80s talk show, I was really pleased to see Paddy doing a live vocal (to a backing track). Quite refreshing and showcases his vocal talent. (Look carefully, there’s only one cable to Paddy’s mic and nothing from the bass or Wendy’s too).
Miming...Prefab Sprout is a house that was pre made in a factory and put up on site in one day..Because of the ease of production and installation, hundreds of prefabs would sprout on the landscape..Largest configuration is in Woking Surrey..The homes were very fashionable in the early 1980s.
Check out the audience all middle aged probably never heard of them. 😂 What a privilege to be able to witness this in the 80s very underrated band truly legendary especially the earlier "Steve McQueen" album
Saw them a couple of times as support band at Durham University in the late 1970s. We liked them but knew they'd never get anywhere with a name like that...
Wow, this band is great. Where was I in the 80s? If you like this, another good missed track is China Crisis: Black Man Ray. Oh I miss those days. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WTWcbaXS-ZU.html
I think that Paddy had similar childhood Sundays as me.... eating over-boiled sprouts in the grandparents' prefab! (in my case going from Reigate to Rushden for the w/e, and not by car)
@@namph72 I don't think Wendy's vocals are live. The mix is a bit different to the studio one, but I can't hear any imperfections, so it sounds like only Paddy's are live.
Well i agree with you it would be better if they actually sung, but in this tv shows it's always the same story haha, although one guy here says they actually sang so who knows...
Theyd of thought , ohh i dont like this , then weeks later they hear it again , played by wogan on bbc r2 and by this point its too late , paddy has set up camp in your mind and its got parking and a hot tub , so from there on everytime you here prefab sprout it closes the door to the rest of your life and carry’s you away in a boat made of starlight on a lake of love . Just saying 🤪
