Director Paul Norman does it again! An evening with celebrated author Joe Milliken on his book about Ben Orr and The Cars. Joe Viglione was the personal videographer for the late Ben Orr and attended the Cars very first show at the Rathskellar in Boston. Mr. Milliken is a long-time writer who has put together what book critic Viglione considers to be the definitive book on the story of the Cars.

I just finished reading the book "Let's Go" and I loved it. I wish it had been 2 or 3 times longer with even more interviews, information and photos! Even though I was born in LA, California I still felt like I was there with these people at these clubs. You could really feel the vibe, loyalty, love of the bands and the electricity in their interviews. I remembered Ric saying in an interview that towns like Cleveland, Atlanta and Boston had a scene and a vibe unlike other major cities. Yes that's true. I have to be honest and say I did not read the last chapter because I know what happens and I didn't want to be sad. I wanted to leave it that Ben was still alive and kicking and rocking out! Thank you for writing this book.

I would like this book to be translated into Portuguese and that this interview be subtitled in several languages.

I'm from Australia so don't know many of the people or bands that they are discussing but it was still fascinating to watch and I really enjoyed it. Reminiscing as you get older and talking about old mutual friends is so much fun, and you could see how much fun they had.

I knew Ben from the perspective of his first wife--we were coworkers in the acoustic duos at Passim's days. It wasn't easy, sometimes.

I just noticed, you're both Joes. Joe-squared :) Haven't had a chance to listen to the interview yet but will do soon. ETA: Listening, aww...Joe Milliken it sounded like he was getting a little choked up talking about the Boston book event and how many fans and meaningful people in Ben's life showed up for it. Very sweet.

Every member of the Cars played a specific role and collectively performing all the most important functions required which made it possible for them to instantly become superstars from the beginning to the end. Lastly, anyone who seriously had a problem with the Cars not being antimated enough on stage, should put their sense of hearing 1st, then focus on listening more than their addiction to sensory overload.

Great interview. One thing about Ben Orr I’ve wondered: his Wikipedia page says he performed in a concert in Anchorage, Alaska, six days before he died. Now, if you’ve ever seen someone in their final days of battling cancer, that seems impossible. How could he have had the energy to travel all the way to Alaska, let alone play a whole concert? Did he actually do that? What is the real story there?

He sure did! After his diagnosis and knowing he had only a few months to live, he said he will perform until they would have to scrape him off the stage and it almost happened exactly like that. His band mates would wheel him in a wheelchair to the stage. He had an oxgen tank on stage for air between songs (or maybe even between singing verses). His voice was very weak ( you can easily find videos of him performing in his final months, it's bittersweet to watch) But during his final stage performance - as was written about in his biography, he'd become too weak to do all his songs. While on stage, he said to his bandmates: "Don't do Drive" They all looked at each other and they knew that this was it. They got him on a flight home and just a few days later he passed. It's an amazing story about an amazing musician, singer and man who did what he loved the most, right to the very end.

@@gracewolf16 Thanks for the answer. Gotta say, that could not have been very enjoyable for the audience to watch.

Biographer does not know where Orr was Born. It’s not Cleveland
@melaniekeegan7970

He was born in Lakewood which is on the outskirts of Cleveland. Most people who are born in these surrounding towns tend to tell people they are from Cleveland which Benjamin did also. My daughter lives in Lakewood but tells everyone she lives in Cleveland! Lol

@@chocloditelensman I read the book ,and I agree. You don’t get to learn anything about his childhood or his family life. I found it a confusing read, and left me with more questions than answers.
