Cars of G1 Transformers (Seasons 1 & 2) 

The masterpieces and 3rd party of that scale do a pretty good job replicating that aesthetic.

The reason I went with the CJ-7 is mainly following the front headlights of the car, which the Cheetah has them located above the front wheels. In the show, it has a similar look and style to the CJ-7 as seen in his debut episode and animation model including the front bumper. The toy is based on the Tamiya FMC XR311, which also has a configuration to have a gun mounted turret like how Swindle has his canon. But then again, it could just be the animators didn't fully know how to correctly draw Swindle's alt mode and thought of it as just another jeep looking car.

@@RedlineRendezvous it’s very true that the G1 cartoon showed Swindle’s alt mode very differently than the G1 toy/figure, and it looks more like that Jeep

The minibots have a resemblance to the vehicle they're meant to be, but weren't exactly accurate unlike the larger sized Diaclone cousins. Makes the fact Cliffjumper and Jazz teamed in the movie feel different since both are Porsches.

They did have some of the best selection of cars at the time. And plenty of Lamborghinis.

That's correct, a few of the G1 Autobots were based on specific racing cars, even had the same numbering.

Jazz is based on the 1978-83 GTX Porsche aka Moby Dick. Before they came out with 962

An interesting idea. Personally, it wouldn't feel the same if it didn't have a large engine or intake in the rear to call it Sunstreaker. Unless going by other continuity rules as more reinterpretations.

Yup, but its an old CAT 769, a much smaller model than nowadays modern 797F which is huge.

@@RedlineRendezvous all of them. I've been a fan since 1984. If only the live action movies would've used these vehicle modes instead for their Autobots.

@@antiseize11 No it is not Hauler wa supposed to be released in wave one but was canceled before release of the toys unfortunately the cartoon had already been animated and he was left it but only appears sin a single episode. In the toy cases he was replaced with a second Mirage figure.

@@saimaidar9417 This was the same for Shockwave and Reflector who toys didn't get released until years later. That was supposed to be and IS Grapple, just with a different [name] then what he eventually ended up with. The [character] Hauler was retroacted into the storyline as being a green colored version of Grapple (which did not appear in the cartoon) and being a member of the constructicons.

I believe Hauler had a very small appearance in the 3 episode movie from season 1.

Even with the Datsun trio sharing very similar car modes, the modifications can make them look entirely different.

It is an iconic series.

They were interesting figures, just not made to last.

I think you're mistaking the Kenworth for Motormaster. Optimus was always the Freightliner since the Diaclone design. Truck cab overs have a similar look to them, but he was intended to be the Freightliner.

I plan to once this video reaches 10k likes also featuring Season 3+4 bots. Yes, that means also includes Soundwave, the Arialbots, and Ultra Magnus.

It's a little iffy when it comes to some of the later bots. First Aid is listed on the wiki as a Datsun (Nissan) Vanette C120, other online sources as a Toyota Townace.

Will update that in the re-release with every G1 Earth based alt mode. It seems more of a Tomica Hitachi mining truck. It's hard to nail down the specific make or model with some of the vehicles included as the time period used a lot of similarly designed vehicles.

Another Commenter in this chat gave the exact make for Longhaul, it’s the Caterpillar (CAT) 769. I checked some pics online and it looks spot on even in the details on the chassis.

Huffer was bit of a weird one to figure out since he was too small for a Freightliner like Optimus and didn't have as many wheels.

It's hard to tell for certain, especially since the minibots were more "interpretations" of vehicles being penny racers. The square headlights wouldn't match the Gladiator look. And the front of the hood sticks out past the grill when it doesn't on the original toy or animation model.

I plan to include all of G1 combiners if this video gets to 10k likes! Who knows, I might do a 10k sub special of all Transformers from every show continuity from G1 to the latest show. So share this with anyone else who might be interested.

Glad you liked it. There was a red beetle, but there doesn't seem to be an official name known for it. While Windcharger is still one of the squished carbots, the tells are in the headlight slopes and the curvature of the rear window being that of the Firebird.

Surprisingly, this is the most of the Autobots. The show did have a few others not on this list, but this is the car bot cast of the 1st 2 seasons.

A lot of truck makers at the time made very similar model trucks. It's why it's also hard to pinpoint specific brand or model the Constructicons are based on.

The Japanese Diacolone makers were really fond of lambos. Even when they aren't just recolors like Sideswipe and Red Alert.

Recolors and remolds are not a new thing in the Transformers franchise.

Japan certainly does have an interesting love for machines from Italy, Germany, and Soviet equipment.

One's a gun and the other's a jet, a bit out of reach for cars here.

Skids is the only Honda, but he's always been forgotten. The Japanese makers of Diaclone were apparently big fans of Porches, Lambos, Nissans, and Mitsubishi. It could be a matter of licensing or availability at the time.

G1 Optimus was based on the Freightliner. Bayverse Optimus was around a Peterbilt.

@@RedlineRendezvous as much as I LOVE Freightliner rigs, I think you might be confusing Optimus and Motormaster.

He was in fact a truck. Similar to Hoist or Trailbreaker where both had extra attachments to fill out the rear bed of the vehicle. In Gears' case it was his legs.

That he is. It's harder to tell with the G1 minibots since their car proportions were...squished to have that penny racer look.

Certainly a lot more variety of named characters.

Thats just Grapple

He's just green Grapple (the missing Constructicon).

Hauler was literally in only 2 seconds of the first episode when he pulled Hound out of the ditch. He was the same color as Grapple and was never seen again after this. People speculate that Grapple was meant to be a season 1 toy, but was pushed back to season 2 for some reason.

​@dangerousdays2052 Yeah there was probably a bit of back and forth over exactly what toys they were getting over from Microchange and Diaclone so a few errors slipped through. Personally I think that's why Reflector shows up so much in season 1, they had planned at one point to release him but then plans changed.
