Cars : VW Volkswagen transporter t5.1 5 speed to 6 speed conversion - parts needed

Additional info: There is NO long version of these 6 speed manuals despite what I stated above. The gearbox coming from the Biturbos are actually very very slightly shorter on the 4-5-6 gears but both do around 160ish with 3kish revs, which is actually plenty for these vans.
Also they can reach 200+ with a proper remap with 4k rpm but let's be honest here, 200kph is not really recomended for a 2ton brick with a high center of gravity.
The job itself is much more than 8 hrs, for me it took about 5 days and it is NOT a one man job, as putting back the gearbox and the subframe (because of their weight) heavily benefits from a second pair of hands, but in case you a strong family member around that should be fine.
Gearbox codes:
KUP, MKB, MQX, PAP, PAT, PAU, PAV, NTF
T5 1.9 PD
Carrying out this conversion to the 1.9 PD is very similar to the above however the rear engine mount requires modification to allow the driveshaft bearing to be mounted.

Also the starter bolts are different, those are needed. There is a shim between the engine and gearbox on the 5 speed. You might need to remove that, as it makes noise as it rubs against the 6 speed flywheel.

The gearbox mount is from a T5 2.0 TDI 6 speed (left mount to the chassis rail / chassis leg). This mount differs from the 5 speed.

Thanks from France. I'm going to travel to the African desert and it's great for long trips. What power do you recommend programming at? 130 140hp or more?

With the 2.0 I'd go with the stage1 tune which is around 180 hp (the hardware of the engine is the same for the 82, 102, 140 HP engines, the stage1 for the 140 should be fine)

Did you get the dashboard working to display the gears? And cruise control works?

Dashboard reports 6th as 5th, cruise works.

Hi there, your best bet is a breakers yard who dismantles these vans for parts.

Depending on where you live you might have to get all the parts one-by-one. I had some luck and got MOST of it from the same breaker yard however they had a couple of parts damaged, other parts from the 5 speed (the cables seen in the vid is for the 5 speed, cable holder, and one of the axles are damaged). Expect about 1800-2000 eurs for the parts only and add a labour on top of that.

Is the flywheel and clutch for 5 speed box different from the 6 speed box or could my clutch and flywheel from my 5 speed work?

They are completely different, different diameter, different mechanism, different style throw out bearing. No chance the 5 speed clutch works. You even have to change the clutch line to make it work.

I have the 1.9tdi T5 (2008), will this conversion work on that? Or this only fpr the 2.0?

As far as I know the conversion is very similar with some extra work (modification) needed at the rear engine mount to have the gearbox fitted. It's a hell of a job if you do it yourself but otherwise kinda straightforward. I drove around 5k kms after the conversion and quite like it. The consumption did not change at all (I expected that) but I am surely driving faster than before, so...

Well, you need a lot of parts but there is no cutting or welding needed, so I'd say yes it is plug-n-play. Again you need a 6 speed matching clutch, throwout bearing, flywheel, starter, drive axles, shifter, cables, etc.
