I cant get enough of this old series. Im not a wishful nostalgia type at all. CART is what got me into racing, Listen to those engines SCREAM, they were violent, sexy, and fun to watch. In cockpit views of drivers now is boring. Watch these guys try to manhandle 900HP + with one hand while they shift with the other. Get rid of the engine limits, bring back methanol, and run what you brung!!!
This is probably the only time in my life I could say I enjoyed the commercials as much as the racing! I agree with the previous comments; this is the pinnacle of CART!
crazy how much motorsports has changed. The indycars and especially stock cars in nascar look amazing today but the best the cars ever looked were in the 80s and 90s.

I think the new cars are looking better and that the v6 sounds good, then I watch this and remember what real race car drives and cars looked and sounded like 😞
Indycar needs to watch ALL of these races. This was the golden age of American Open wheel before the greedy owners AND TG ruined it. Duplicate the rules to alow THIS to come back, and due what ever it takes to keep the manufactures happy! Cosworth/Ford please come back, we need you!
One thing I miss today, and it's probably a bit tedious, but I really miss the music ABC had. The heavier intro, and the dramatic string and brass arrangements from the commerical bumpers...made things a bit more captivating. ABC/ESPN's use of the crappy current pop music is garbage...they had it right playing things like AC/DC's Hells Bells and Alice In Chains during some of the NASCAR intros, but apparently that was too good of an idea for the beancounters at ABC Networks. Ignoramuses.
They used to go flat out though there . A good site is Nigell mansell explaining the course, as the record lap at the time is being ran. It's so precise, balls out around the carousal. It's a must see on You Tube for those that haven't seen it.
Absolutely exceptional racing. The cars were great, the drivers were great, the tracks were awesome. Add the great paul page and what you get is truly memorable!!!
sexiest cars ever !! I loved the days when they actually ran real road courses. now every race is a p.o.s street course with no straights and 90degree turns, not to mention they are always shitty courses cars flying in the air over rr tracks adding random chicanes, track surface coming up....COME ON !!!....zzzzz
This was the year the lap record was broken. either 99 or 2000. Team Mean Green with Dario Franchinni ran a 1.38., which is extremely fast. I would say on a Track like this, today's F1 cars wouldn't break it. Ferrari has the track record at Laguna Seca by 1/10th of a second. CHAMP cars had 1000 HP. Todays F1 maybe 600. Road America is about power.
vin russo today's f1 cars produce WAY more than 600hp... Just the internal combustion engine makes 700... Plus the kers and mguH it's closer to 1000hp - they would destroy a modern indycar or these CART cars... Doesn't make them cooler but they are definitely faster

It's depressing to see what open wheel racing used to be in America. Did CART have it's problems? Of course, all series do, but we didn't need Tony George's half witted spoiled interference. As far as i'm concerned TG can go to hell.
By that statement, sounds like you might be...no, the split/Tony George etc has left thousands of us with bad taste. And frankly, their product is inferior to what was so I'm not interested at all. I'll go to ALMS or anything else. How many different racing have you seen? I've seen a ton..."slower" and "not as shinny". What a ridiculous statement.
