absolutely ! She was a fan favorite starting when she was 5 years old on the powerful Mexican Border stations and had received thunderous applause her whole life since she was 13 years old at the Old Dominion Barn Dance ..look for my upcoming book about the Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle Era.
@Siegbert Landgraf I would respectfully disagree 100% ,having listened to both Patsy Cline and Anita Carter for years. I would say its like comparing apples and oranges I like both and both were great. Anita's vocal range far surpasses Patsys vocal range. Anita was referred to as a soprano by "some" music critics because they would hear her sing some of the greatest soprano parts in songs. But Anita could sing in almost every vocal range that she wanted. Patsy could not sing soprano. Here is an example of Anita singing in a low range live. Anita was getting thunderous applause as a young teenager during the Carters time at the Old Dominion Barn Dance in the late 40's Check out my You Tube channel ru-vid.com/show-UCZz3R7ZDVx5zrQd6BazT4DQ for some early recordings of Anita Carter at 16/17 years old. Even when she is singing with the group her crystal-clear most powerful voice stands out on every recording. But listen to this recording of "Lonesome Road" there hasn't been any great soprano's that I've heard could sing in this range like Anita. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-gzJ8RzPf5pA.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zNRJAi5Qezg.html I love Patsy Cline and in fact I am an administrator for a Patsy Cline Facebook page but Anita Carter has the greatest voice of a generation. imho
Most people probably don't remember, but in the early days on tv shows, June was the comedian of the bunch, and she play acted dumb and podunk, but she wasn't... far from it. June was a very beautiful intelligent woman, no doubt about it, and Anita was also. I have the greatest respect for June Carter Cash.
I was upset to learn that nobody liked her because she was controlling and manipulative due to the fact of her having to always do shows and keep staring in them by her parents. It did damage and she was a child star, she became an addict to deal with it just as all the others usually do. It's sad but true. Mother maybelle and alvis always made sure she stayed the good girl and made sure no matter what she was never shined upon on a bad light.
Blame that on her Rheumatoid arthritis, the drugs used to treat it began destroying her organs and she sadly couldn't be as active as the other sisters, she lived in pain.
