52:50 Historically, the Carthaginian citizen militia was well known for having excellent armor and weapons but notoriously lacked training and discipline. While we know this from Roman sources, we can assume there's some truth to that since Carthage depended mostly on mercenaries and subjects in war. The Carthaginian citizens were more adept at seafaring and trading, and really only fought as a last-ditch effort.

I stumbled across your DEI faction videos and I'm loving them. You convinced me to play a Seleucid one and once I've mastered their style of warfare I'm thinking either Epirus or Macedon for a harder version of something similar! I'd love for you to finally do a Rome video! I know that will be a lot to tackle but it would also be really neat. Another idea would be the Alexander campaign that has been recently added to DEI. I know it's not the grand campaign but it's very fun and interesting, difficult as you're dealing with cultural and population difficulties as well as facing a constant stream of Persian armies, at the same time it's not hard to win battles once you master Alexander's style of warfare.

Im getting wrecked cuz I switched govs and couldn't balance the public order fallout and Rome attacking one turn afterwards but that's the price you pay sometimes,especially on very hard. It's still lots of fun. The irony in all this is thanks in part to your Syracuse video I'm doing quite well holding on to Sicily and taking Kyrene as the sky blue and gold but ai Carthage is winning the war against rome somehow (turn 126). @Maggot91ify
@Maggot91ify 2 года назад
Id imagine one difficulty for doing a Rome overview is that even with all the different variations of the faction, not all units are represented in custom battle since that would be too many and cause problems with the game. Granted when it comes to auxilia they're mostly the same with a few being fairly uniqe like the Cretan, Syrian and Tyrian archer cohorts. Batavian and Galatian cohorts with their better weapon damage. Batavian and Numidian Alae (cavalry) with their respective Mairepos and Numidian horses. Still we could see what most units are like which can be of use
@LogisticsWW

@@Maggot91ify Could probably do a two/three parter with the "standard" units in one vid and auxilia in the other. I think custom battles have *most* of the roster available though, right?
@Maggot91ify
@Maggot91ify 2 года назад
@Mike T custom has a good amount of it certainly. As for most? There are A LOT of auxilia for Rome so ehhh maybe. Best way to tell is to check the unit db and compare with custom battle lists to get an idea (it also depends if you wanna count the "miliaria" cohorts also)

Heyy. Can you do Saka Rauka next? I never played with them but their army looks scary. They have insanely good infantry and decent phalanx units despite them being a horse focused nomadic cultured faction. Their archers are also top quality. And lets not even talk about the melee and scirmisher cavs. Insane charge, lots of armor, amazing stats. And one of their faction perk is even more armor. Also their reform is not turn or imperium based. Just looks like a absolute OP faction to play with.

@Immersaholic

Spears are typically more mobile and have less armor so they can be more mobile. A phalanx is usually a more disciplined unit that is almost always heavier in armor. They also have different animations that may contribute to their kill ratios

Regarding the reforms of Carthage: Carthage abides by Greek global reforms which are different than the greek reforms of greek factions. for Carthage (and any non-greek faction that uses those reforms) thureos is at turn 60 and thorax turn 140. No imperium requirements needed Additionally, the Liby-Phoenician troops are all upgrades on your libyan so Liby-Phoenician thureos are later upgrades on the Libyan thureos troops, the same applies for cavalry and hoplites (which are also an upgrade on the Carthaginian hoplites)

You`re right! Carthage learned the technology as well, but mostly used Hellenes. Also, it isn't hard for anyone to image that they would put on the unform of their patron. So, it makes sense why they have Carthaginian grubs on, instead of Greek. Even though the Carthaginians unform IS Hellenic. If he looked closely at the faces of the men, they don`t look "Eastern". So, no error was made, and I love the touch. Adds to the diversity of the former Mediterranean superpower. Just wish more of that was done with Rome later on the tech tree.

@mojorisin069
@mojorisin069 2 года назад
I had no idea why they were considered easy originally. Their army and units is so unique and so un-uniformed usually, like you dont even be trying to RP as Carthage to be forced to use armies with like 4 or 5 units with only one type and swordsmen with a couple hoplites, some heavy cav with some skirmish cavs. You also have so many fronts to fight on and Rome is given such a buff and your armies are pretty much the opposite of theirs and it takes some skill (i admit im not the best by any means so im sure others easily roll over rome) but i do try to RP and im not good at naval battles at all. They are at least normal, the Iberians, Africans (whether they are a client state or not) are a pain due to different cultures, the Syracusans, and Romans are all likely to declare war within 5 turns, then you may have to worry about the Ptolemics declare war or get right to your border if you allow them. Know this is long, besides Sparta, Carthage is my most played and they are much more difficult than you'd think, think they felt just because you start with so many cities and provinces it would be easier.
@Immersaholic
@Immersaholic 2 года назад
I see your points completely and agree with most of it, although there are a couple things that Carthage has that make it far easier than normal. First one is the massive population recruitment pool, you can spend all your pops of say Balearic islands, Corsica and Sardinia purely on building fleets. Then you have Africa that can give you a consistent stream of whatever troops you want (IF you can afford it), than you have the far west that will provide reserves as well if needed. The second biggest thing is that your capital city AND core region is across the sea from Rome, while naval battles are often glitchy and suck, beating the ai is pretty easy all around. If you suck at the battles themselves you can always autoresolve the enemy fleets, after that you just manually fight the battles against their transport fleets to wipe out entire legions for no cost. There are more pros and cons of course, but these 2 points are the biggest ones I hear of when others say Carthage is "easy". I think the economy of Carthage takes a long time to get up and running though and that is something many people overestimate.
@mojorisin069
@mojorisin069 2 года назад
@@Immersaholic I can see that population being important. As, maybe a shocker, an avid Spartan enjoyer 😂 I guess I never really considered that since I never have enough population. But I can see those points. I do think of you wanna RP with army builds and in the battle (keeping like background with each other like battle of cannae) also to bring up Epirus I've never seen them win as playing as Carthage. The I've seen them win ONE time as a Spartan play through which was nice cuz I just took their one Greek city. While they fought and beat the Roman's. One thing I've never seen, Carthage beat rome. In my likely hundred plus campaigns. No matter if I am the gauls or Germans or Spartans or parthians or scythians the Roman's ALWAYS destroy Carthage. I wish they buffed Carthage. Because Carthage very well could've beat the Roman's in the first punic war. I wish it was like 80% rome destroys Carthage. Rather than what seems to be like a 98% chance.
@mojorisin069
@mojorisin069 2 года назад
@@Immersaholic LOL just got to the part where you said "much like Spartans" haha yeah Carthage cannot have many "true" Carthage people like Sparta. But mercenary and Carthage has better foreign units. Don't get me wrong those Skiritai swordsman are great and with the Spartan change makes them much better. But overall if you wanna RP with Sparta you'll likely be outnumbered by around 500-1000 units every fight. But that MORAL makes up for that. Which is why I love playing as them.

Stop worrying about where the unit is supposed to be if your so worried about "taking to much time". just place them where they are supposed to be( flanks, anvil, hammer, your neighbor while you shower) Also instead of just hovering over the unit, why dont you expand that unit information. or better yet, lets see them in action. for your range units, why not demonstrate them firing a couple volley's to SEE the unit's rate of fire and skirmishing abilities.

@@Immersaholic ohhh ok, im new so i didnt know this, its a bit too late for this now but my 2 cents on it is that it was very counter productive because rome was already fleshed out and the small obcure factions have now been fleshed out making all the guides you did do obsolete where the best order would have probably been rome then hellenic, carthage and then onto the barbarians as the years have gone on but nevertheless it will be useful to check things out as i get more into dei and i look forward to seeing what you do in the future
