LuAZ-969 "Volyn" is a family of Soviet passenger-and-freight mini-cars with cross-country ability, produced at the Lutsk automobile plant in total from 1966 to 2002.
LuAZ-969 is the first generation of civilian off-road vehicles (APP) of the Lutsk Automobile Plant.
LuAZ-969 was the first Soviet front-wheel drive car (the “969V” version without rear axle drive). Also, LuAZ-969 is the first SUV that was a consumer product, that is, officially sold "for personal use." In addition, the LuAZ-969 is the first mass-produced Soviet car, created specifically for the needs of the inhabitants of the village of the USSR. Functional design and simplified bodywork, providing only minimal comfort, corresponded to the purpose of the car. Light SUVs similar in class for the armed forces or villagers were also created abroad - for example, the West German DKW Munga (1956-1968), Haflinger (1959-1974) and Volkswagen Iltis (1978-1988), Farmobil (1962-1966), East German Wartburg 353-400 Jagdwagen and others.
