For those who may have missed it. This bumper has the appearance of both Batman AND The Thing from The Fantastic Four. A FREAKING official DC/Marvel crossover!
Oh my god, I've been looking for this for almost 17 years. It seems so cheesy now, but back then I thought it was the greatest Cartoon Network crossover we've ever had, before the City era bumpers came along. That shot in 0:53 was my grade school equivalent of the money shot from 'The Avengers'. Shame it's just the rough cut. I remembered the audio and music being so much better in the broadcast version, and with actual sound effects. It was far more coherent with the sounds done rights. Unless someone in S.E. Asia managed to catch this on his VHS recording or something, this is the closest we'll ever see of it. Ah well. Some stuff missing: -There was an intro card to this short featuring various Cartoon Network characters popping up, including a still shot of I.M. Weasel and Baboon facing off (like the poster in 'Captain American Civil War') -The ending bit with the Cartoon network logo had the camera spinning and zooming out as the characters danced, and the camera stops in its proper place as the logo appears. There was definitely Bollywood music playing over the last part.
These are the list of bollywood film references (as far as I can guess out): Dexter and Johnny riding on a bike is a reference to a similar scence from a song Yeh dosti hum nahi todenge from Sholay (1975) The powerpuff girls are dancing to a flute music that is a parody of the music at the beginning of an iconic dance number, 'Choli ke peeche kya hai', from Khalnayak (1993) The 'oye oye' that you hear at the end is from a song 'Gazar ne kiya hai ishara', from Tridev (1989) Fun fact: Madhuri Dixit, one of bollywood's most popular actresses appears in both 'Choli ke peeche' and 'Gazar ne kiya hai ishara'.
Ok, so I see this promo right, and my theatre kid ass randomly thinks of the song In My House from the Great Comet of 1812 thinking that was how Mojo Jojo here treats all the toons in this promo.
My personal theory is that Double D had a falling out with the other two Ed boys which led him down a dark path working with Mojo Jojo for a while which is when this takes place. I hope he could reconcile his friendship with them and get his life together after this.
1:31 Why aren't Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Elmer Fudd, Sylvester and Tweety, Road Runner, Yakko, Wakko, Dot, Pinky and the Brain, Slappy Squirrel, Hello Nurse, Buster Bunny, Babs Bunny, Plucky Duck, Tom and Jerry, Droopy, McWolf, Screwy Squirrel, Barney Bear, George and Junior, The Pink Panther, The Ant and the Aardvark, Yogi Bear, Top Cat, the Banana Splits, Pingu and Thomas the Tank Engine in this ?
thanks for this video! Do you happen to have anything related to the short block called "Toon Tamasha" that was aired along the same time? The styles look quite similar and I believe the same team was responsible for Toon Tamasha animation as well. Have been searching for that for over 17+ years. :)
