Even if it's a reupload, and the subject is water under the bridge for you, glad you're trying to keep it posted so people know about the art thief issue with CN (that I keep hearing rumours that they still have problems with, they seriously need to fix their hiring process)
Yeah, I honestly just want it to be on my channel just because I do want people to know what CN did, even if they tried to make up for it, the whole thing was still really messed up. This whole thing really ruined my whole day though.
@@Sashakawaiicat We're glad you reupload it. This video in a way(to me) is holding CN accountable and to spread awareness to other artists of different companies stealing their work. This issue seems to be growing and this probably won't be the end of it. Sorry you were stressed out about all this and everyone be on the lookout for stolen art.
I've heard about this issue through how other companies have tried to do the same thing (yootooz, nick, etc). I'm so confused on why the people don't just hire a different artist like sashakawaiicat if they really are incapable of making something original??
@@Sashakawaiicat like I wonder if the original creators of their art can get to fight back against this because I’m getting angry that artists that make art and then a big company takes it
Honestly that person had some serious issues, but regardless I did notice that alot of the people who were defending tracing literally were tracers themselves.
You can tell they obviously didnt mean it when they said you "inspired them".That doesnt even help, because even though they gave credits, they only posted that after they finally got called out for it.Im sorry this happened, and hope you feel better about it.
@@eirhg97136 Yep, or people who say “if you get inspired you don’t have to credit anybody” but that’s just giving some people an excuse to trace. Not only that but it’s pleasant to know that someone is inspired by you. It’s annoying indeed, not crediting/ stating your inspiration but then your art looks like a carbon copy of who inspired you is wrong to me.
@@N0vaStarxx I think it’s a typing mistake, for example: you accident press the period while I’m the middle of typing something so two words make a fake link. “I was just eat.ing a pancake” that kind of thing.
Nothing makes me more furious that this video was taken down. It's not okay for big companies to trace and steal others artwork. It doesn't matter if the artwork is public that doesn't excuse a company taking it.
@@ipersonallyhavenoidea they made the character, steven, but they didnt make the steven's genderbend *nora*, who was a fanmade character and the drawing which they traced from was fanmade, it did not belong to them.
@@Nicejokeright It still doesnt excuse the tracing and stealing of an other artists working and claiming it as its own without _proper_ crediting, especially when its a company. Steven is an already established cartoon character, like you said but i'll repeat this, nora is NOT. Even if she is another version of an already established character, she is not a canon character. And even if you disagree with this part, her design is owned by the artist not CN. You might be correct and if you are, im willing to hear your argument but remember it doesnt mean cartoon network is in the right for tracing.
@@youwantfood9586 Nora is just a gender-bent version of Steven Universe. That's like if I gender-bent Izuku from Bnha, does that mean I own that version of him?
This is disgusting. Just because you’re a big company with millions of dollars does NOT give you any right to trace someone’s art! And to think they only have credit when they were called out. I agree. Please sue them. That probably took so long. It doesn’t deserve to be traced…
Big companies have enough money to postpone the courtdate until the one sueing them gives up because they dont have any money anymore. Pickup a book, preferable 1 without pictures and read it
@@youtubestudiosucks978 Oh wow so you’re going to be rude about what I said. Yeah, sure, I don’t know shit about court. It’s really disappointing to see others being rude to me when I make a comment that contains a mistake, or me saying something without knowing about the topic. Maybe try and be a bit nicer, is all I’m saying.
For the little story at the start... Like, stealing art is already bad enough, but IMPERSONATING SOMEONE?? ISN'T THAT STRAIGHT UP ILLEGAL???? IDENTITY THEFT IS ILLEGAL RIGHT??? I'M NOT INCORRECT AM I???
@@little_moth not quite, but it can make someone angry if it’s used without their Permission and claimed as theirs. (If it was illegal it would be kinda dumb, yes yes it’s wrong and stuff but a perosn shouldn’t be sent to prison or jail for it. ^IF THEY ARE SELLING THE ART, YES. ITS ILEGAL.^
@@PoggoFruit I'm pretty certain art theft is illegal in the UK which is where I live anything you make you automatically have copyright over so it cannot be used without your permission
Gorgeous masterpiece!! I am so sorry your art got stolen but at least this person got caught. Your not the only one who's art got stolen. During class time at OSB one of my class mates stole one of my artwork and tried to take all the credit. But my friend Justin caught him and inform the staff and that student was officially kicked out of art class. See you on your next video. :)
Same thing happened to me but she told people that she was the one who draw those in charm class. But my friend told me about it who also attended it. I just stopped helping her.
dude, i cant imagine the how mentally taxing this would be. i would be so mad every time it crossed my mind. gotta have a lot of patience and maturity to NOT freak out about it.
I know this video is old but I’m so sorry this happened. You deserved so much better than this, your art looks lovely! Honestly I’ve been kind of scared of people stealing my fanart too. It’s something that I put a lot of time into and love, it helps me improve my skills as well as just giving me something to look forward to doing. I have this persistent idea in my mind that I can’t do anything to really defend or protect my fanart because I don’t have the copyright to the characters, even though I made the art with them in it. And just to know that a big company like Cartoon Network would do something like this is just disappointing, because they DO own the copyright but think that doing this is okay. I just find that taking advantage of fans who love their shows like that is honestly pretty cruel. I’m sorry I’m talking a lot I just have a lot on my mind.
Literally the people who said “attention seeker, inspired, not traced” probably didn’t even notice the mouth is the same, and the eyes are so obviously traced, even the bottom lashes, which on the other eye isn’t even correct.
I just found this on my FYP and I am so sorry that happened to you, mate!! As a fellow artist I am appalled by the actions of Cartoon Network and those who were bitter towards you and your struggles.
How did cartoon network steal it if it's was originally there character but she just made it into a girl ( not hating btw I just wanted to point this out)
wasn't the first time someone at the company stole something honestly I'm surprised they didn't throw a fake drawing contest that was rigged to cover up they stole a kids character and added them to a show before figuring out what happened
omg, it reminds me of story how some person on wildberries(russian online-shop) was using my mom's art without her permission (your art with Nora is amazing!)
Not to mention it’s technically not her art. She did the work yes but unless you have full permission from the artist regardless how famous they are it’s still you using their art and ideas.
I 10000000% agree that Cartoon Network is tracing your art, which is hilarious because their one of the biggest cartoon companies and they "don't have time" to credit someone who puts hours of work into an art piece.
*RU-vid Senses Are Tingling* 👀!!! I sense that RU-vid has something to do with this reupload and the original one being deleted! How dare they! DAMN YOU, RU-vidEEEEEE!!! And I'm also sorry about CN Tracing your art work! You work so hard on it tooooo and they decided to Tracing it!?!?! Shame on you, Cartoon Network! 😤
Honestly at first thought this was just a joke or like some tracer pretending but when I saw it I was like “yeah…. NO.” I was completely wrong and now I dislike whoever runs that account.
Gorgeous art piece. I am so sorry they traced you. It is not a nice thing to do after giving lots of efforts while its getting stealed. You can add watermarks on your art to keep it safe. It would be kinda hard to delete that huge watermark.
Aight ima just admit something real quick. I don't do this anymore but I used to trace other people's art.. BUT IT'S NOT LIKE I STOLE IT!! I didn't post it anywhere and claimed it as my own! I only traced over certain parts cuz I wanted to try and get better at things like face expressions, body anatomy, etc. IM not trying to encourage tracing behavior cuz obviously it's ridiculous. But i just wanted to get that off my chest
It absolute ok to trace in art for different purpose like trying to learn how to draw certain things and just general self improvement. Even in art school, there will be assignment where your goal is to copy a given drawing to learn for coloring, shading and general coposition work overall, I recomend tracing for educational purpose and artist of every level as we can always learn smth new from other work. If you are going to trace an art piece only to turn around and say "ya this is my original work", post it publicly without any reference to the original. You are using tracing wrong, I can exuse if a peice share similarity but if we can layer that shit and get a exact one to one in form. People will be right fully piss.
Imagine being a famous, rich and verified TV company whom can literally afford to pay/hire any professional to draw them anything they want and instead of doing the previously mentioned you just take someone's art, changes one thing and then posts it without proper credits to the original artist and only credits them AFTER being called out ( AND STILL NOT CREDITING PROPERLY ) 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀 AND ALSO IMAGINE SUPPORTING TRACING JUST BECAUSE A FAMOUS COMPANY DID IT SO YOU THINK IT'S OK BECAUSE IT'S A COMPANY 💀💀💀💀
They did it because art is work, and inspiration is a rare commodity, thanks to Disney and the Rockerfellers. If you ever see any stylized art of any character posted by a company, there’s a chance that they commissioned it from a busy hack who thought that they could copy it and get away with it, because small artists rarely catch a break.
I literally kept having to pause your video to rant about this to my partner. Your mention of your art being "cannon" as Nora now, is honesty so true. They stole your art, and gave a faceless name a face. Now if Rebecca Sugar were to want to make a spin off or something, she'd probably have to use your design.
It’s been a year but I want to give this perspective: this could be used as evidence to freelance or contract for CN! This doesn’t have to end in a loss taken. It’s proof of good work- use that as leverage. The incident I refer to for thinking of this option is a video (I can’t remember the video’s creator! Sorry!) talking about Harley Quinn as a character in the animated Batman. She was not canon. The animator working on the series essentially inserted Harley into the story line and she BECAME canon because of the reception and how well she fit in the lore. Harley Quinn is technically a fan character turned canon because, the creator of said fan character being integrated, was also an animator/artist working on the series. (If you’ve seen the video I’m referring to please feel free to reply with a link!) While your situation is flipped, I believe it’s still applicable. I think you’ve very clearly shown you can make memorable characters to integrate into a well loved series and be well loved themselves. I say use this situation (this video and all!) to set your rates; propose a contract on your terms; get your money; and get your credit and characters out into the world with them in a way that benefits you as well! Creating good fan art is a tender line to dance on but, I believe there’s options out there so that you aren’t cutting any kind of loses. I hope things are better now. 💝
Girl I feel so sorry for you I'm a young artist and I can even emphasize how it must feel to get your art stolen by a big company that must feel very bad did they even credit BTW I didn't get to finsh the vid cause of school
Inspiration is not stealing a character, inspiration is taking ideas from someone to create something else not to trace their art. Even if it's "not traced" they still stole your character and only credited you when they got called out. I'm sorry you had to go through that, but it's good that you settled it out! :)
the way they credited you was very ingenuin and i feel like they did that because of the hate it didnt seem like they even wanted to credit you, but fr your arts amazing i always enjoy seeing ur art videos
I notice that alot of RU-vid artists like you use IBIS Paint. And I'm just wondering if this was on a phone or if you found a way to use it on other devices (i.e. Laptop and or PC) because so far I've only been able to use it on my phone.
It's sad that even big plat forms like cartoon network would do this. They should be sued for art theft and identity theft. Because that " inspired by " sounded completely fake. I hope you get you're justice:]
It heart aches me that people say they didn't trace. It's just dumb I compared it myself and it was almost identical I rlly don't know why people keep saying ur the bad guy this video and art is amazing you really deserve more credit. This is just messed up
I know I'm very late to this video but I am so sorry this happened to you! I hope whoever was in charge of this thinks of how they embarrassed themselves on the internet every night. I wish I could say I'm surprised that a big company would steal from a smaller artist but I'm happy that at least they did credit you (even if it was done in a passive aggressive manner)
Non artists usually can't tell when it's traced or not, especially when the person traces and then slightly change things around. Clearly your art got traced here, and I'm sorry to hear.. It's not even "Inspired" because otherwise it would look completely different
Ik how it feels to have art traced or copied, and they also called it “inspiration” and as an excuse asked me if i knew how many people copied the mona lisa which is ridiculous cause that is a famous painting and im just a girl drawing on the playground 😑. I think you handled this in the best way possible.
I am so sorry that this whole incident happened to you, btw that art you were making in the video ATE and left NO CRUMBS, you licked that plate CLEAN, no dishwasher needed!!❤❤
im going to say the reason i stuck around for your video ....and the ONLY reason is because you are EXTREMELY well spoken. Good on you for shedding light on your situation.
Just to clarify, most people don't steal ftom artist specifically because they think our art is just so good, they do it cos they're lazy or they lack skill. It isn't a compliment when people steal your art. It really sucks
Thats really rude, especially beacause its a big company, if your a big company you can't just set a example thats telling people is ok to trace peoples art.
Damn. I'm glad things were settled in the end. Oh.. and, at least you now are able to have an interesting story (WITH PROOF) about how freaking CARTOON NETWORK OF ALL COMPANIES traced your art. That's not something a lot of artists can say! (& while it's definitely not a positive story, it's still something i guess.)
Yeah, It was never really relevant, I just thought it was funny. Like imagine finding out Disney stole from a trans person on trans awareness day or somthing, after branding themselves as being all lgbtq friendly, I would definitely be the person pointing that out.
A bit off topic but I really like your art and i find it a bit annoying that people would trace and copy from you, keep up the good work and stay strong!
The thing is, why didn’t they just ask? 😭 are they that prideful that they didn’t wanna ask a random person on the internet to use their picture for ref or something? Like I’m quite sure NO ONE would reject 💀 they legit tried to take advantage over the fact that they felt like no one would recognize ur art
One unfortunate part of this is that if you did try to sue, you would likely get countersued instead [or a threat of it]. Fan art is in a grey area legally, and creators can sue you for it, and then someone has to decide if it's different enough to fall under fair use. Most big companies don't do this because fan art is free marketing basically. Rulings have been friendlier to fan creators in regards to fair use, but I'm not certain they've officially changed.
A 6 year old copied my friend’s oc and it had the same pupils, eye color, clothes, skin, horns, hair and color palette but they apparently “didn’t know” but HOW do you “accidentally” copy a design with the exact same details???
According to At The Bar the Chicago bar association: Although it is a slippery slope, the simple answer is - yes, they do. At its basic definition, copyright protects original works of authorship including literary, dramatic, musical, and artistic works.[9] Accordingly, fans own copyright in their own original contributions to a fan work. Although they would not own the basis for their fan creation, they do own their final product. I guess the TL;DR is: well yes, Cartoon Network owns the right to Steven Universe as intellectual property, this artist owns the rights to to this character inspired by Steven Universe, also, they're not profiting whatsoever off there creations
@@Lost_Dreemurr You do realize that using their creations for videos is profiting from them right? Cartoon Network COULD (operative work) send a cease and desist order to them if they wanted to and they should abide if they don't want a lawsuit. But of course most co panties don't do that due to fear for the backlash, but it is a valid legal recourse they have. Artist take advantage of this. Instead of creating new original stuff they piggyback out of famous creations. You saying they don't profit from them is clearly a lie or a misunderstanding of the ways those creations bring money to the creators even when they don't sell them directly.
I feel so bad for her that her artwork was stolen on Ace awareness week. I know I’m a little bit late to the party, but I thought Cartoon Network was better than this. Turns out I was wrong. I hope you sued him got some compensation for them stealing your art, that’s just not cool man 😓
It's most likely that the company, higher-ups, were not aware. They probably just paid some who claimed your art. The same thing happened in the Witcher. It was obviously traced.
