Whitney you're such a asset to women who have natural hair. You have taught me so much. Thank you for all you do. You are appreciated.

My friend uses it all the time. YES she is natural. She allows it to steam longer plus she keeps them in for about 30 mins and smaller section.. It comes off very beautiful. She also uses it when she blow out her hair

Since I'm natural, I sit under the dryer for the 15 minutes, and the curls come out much better. It also doesn't become poofy and frizzy. Keep trying!!

Im sorry these didn't work for you but I looove me some caroso rollers. I blowdry my hair before using them. Here's a tip, you don't have to do the 7 sec rule. Just pop one on while you rolling the last section. It also makes the process faster.

Whit, I use them! First, you need smaller sections. Second, you need to leave the rollers on the steamer for longer - like a minute or two so it gets hot. Third, you should do it on stretched hair. Fourthly, you should use a towel to blot the roller to get some of the water out so your hair doesn't swell back up. Try again!!!! I love them!! I've even used them to roll braids and twists so I'll have a curly twist-outs & braid-outs! Love you!!!

I used this in the early 90's on relaxed, below shoulder length hair. It worked really well when I left the cover on while steaming the roller as it kept the heat better. I left it on the base longer than 7 seconds and the roller would be pretty hot and damp as I recall. I'd leave the rollers in until they were totally dry and the curls did last longer than using a curling iron. Didn't know this was still around. May have to check it out again. Thanks for the in depth review and reintroducing me to this product!

I also have steam rollers and you have to let it collect some heat. The foam soaks up the water and as it dries, it expands and that's what causes the curls to set. So let it get more steam first and let it dry longer. You also have a lot of hair so it might take longer for you

Hey girl! They are really good old school rollers and they work wonders for natural hair. What you need to do is stream the cap also and because your hair is thick grab a blow dryer and hit the rollers to dry up any moisture still on the cap. You need to re-try it.

Thanks for posting this. I used the Caruso curler until I went natural, last year. I Thought that I could no longer use it without flat ironing my hair, first. Thanks to your video I tried it again! I just used it after blowing out a 2 day-old twist out. My hair looks just like it did with the perm... Straight but not bone straight. I think people either love or hate this curler. It has always worked for me, but I would always take out the steam curlers and re-roll the slightly damp hair on to sponge rollers. Once the hair dried completely the curls would be locked in. As I write this, I am sitting in my sponge rollers, so I won't know if the curls will hold all day .... But I think they will.

I think that the instructions are whats recommended but I do not think they honestly took into account EVERY hair type, length, and density. Personally i would've put on a curler for at least a min, then set on another curler while curling my hair, I say give it another go Whitney and next time do your own rules :-).

I'm going to buy these...I have 4b type hair that's almost as long & thick as yours. I think you should have left the rollers on the steamer longer...you counted really fast because you were scared & nervous. Another thing I'd do differently is leave the rollers on my hair for 2hrs or longer since my hair is thick. Please do another video of you trying these rollers out again....hopefully trying tips offered. Thanks you look great!!

***** You know what Whit, although instructions say certain things, sometimes we have to alter those instruction just a bit to get the results we want lol. What you "may" need to do is leave the rollers on the steam a bit longer than 10 secs. Second, you have very thick hair, so you may need to leave the rollers in for a bit longer than 15 mins.....maybe you should keep it in for around 30-35 mins. Third try smaller parts and rolling it like you did on the first try because the rolling motion you did the second time gave you more waves than curls. Just my simple suggestions. You should try again because the curls did look like they were trying to come out the first time.

I've used caruso steam rollers for years on clients with great results. One great tip I learned is to also steam the roller cover right before you clip it to the roller. It will give better steam penetration all around the hair :-)

My sister's hair is the same length and thickness as yours and what we found was it took some practice to get the look we wanted. How you hold the hair, in which direction you roll it, as well as the amount of tension placed on the hair while rolling, all seem to contribute to the finished look. The amount of time both the roller and shield are steamed also affect the outcome. Play around with it a little bit more, you just may change your opinion. By the way the shine on your hair is incredible after styling.

I personally LOVE the steam rollers. My hair is completely natural and they work beautifully. I blow dry my hair straight, put the rollers in and allow them to sit for 20-30 or sit under a hooded dryer for 15 minutes. I'll wrap my hair at night. The roller set gives me lots of bounce and body and lasts for about a week or until I shampoo my hair again.

OMGosh you are hysterical!!! You had me totally cracking up in your first run of the rollers! I demoed these in a video too. I would have thought they would have relaxed your hair a little more, but you DO have a TON of hair! I watched the second half and saw they did curl better and relax it a bit. I would agree with you- blowing your hair out first would totally defeat the purpose! To use steam after a blow out is going to make your hair frizzy, and ruin all the hard work you put into your blowout. It would be similar to walking into a steam room right after a good blowout :(

You have to leave it on the steamer longer and let it set longer. I am natural and I've done it on both blown out hair and detangled natural hair with success. I have also found that you get the best results with the medium and small rollers.
@whitneysolier1
@whitneysolier1 10 лет назад
I used this back in my permed days and got great results. If you try this again try smaller sections and the smaller rollers. Leave the roller on the steamer a little longer (let roller steam while you applying a roller to your head), and steam the roller cap for a few sections before you snap it onto your rolled section of hair.

I purchased these rollers for my relaxed hair and my hair always came out beautiful. I kept them even though I'm natural now because I use them for my weaves too. I never tried them on my naural hair but I think I wanna give it a shot on blow dried hair. Don't give up on them yet! You definitely have to do them in smaller sections and roll the hair tight onto the roller, the tighter you roll, the more smoothed out the hair will be even on relaxed hair.
@sheliene12
@sheliene12 10 лет назад
The parts where the curl actually took and had more definition are the ones that were in you hair longer. I did noticed that it wasn't that much longer so the steam rollers are still a little promising. Well, it is the first time using the rollers. I always pass the steam rollers by and watching you do it give me some ideas of how to use it. I think I am still going to buy them! Fun video!
@RaquelliBee
@RaquelliBee 10 лет назад
My mom and I both use this set. And it is great. To get the best results you want the roller to be at least warm. I saw that you didn't notice a temperature change. And also because it is steam try waiting until your hair is dry again. Another note to make is that I have never been successful in rolling my hair flat like you did on the roller. Results are always just curled ends and a big bump before it. I have bra strap length hair. No matter the type of roller, heat or not. What works for me is making the section into a loose single strand twist. then wrap it around the roller. Kind of like a bantu knot with out the pain of sleeping on it or the wait for it to set. I hope this helps.

You just have to make sure you keep the rollers and the roller cover on the steam for a little longer. I think that if you counted just a bit slower you might have had a better result. I think the smaller curlers might have given you a sleeker curl. Keep at it, girly. Rollers are pretty tricky to deal with to began with, I'm sure you'll eventually get it. :)

Although the instructions suggest leaving them in for 15 minutes, that was obviously not enough time for natural hair to set. I think it would have yielded better results if given extended leave in time. Whitney knows we have to adapt these types tools for our hair.
