This may not translate to Canada like in the states down here, BUT you are becoming the Bob Ross of carving, if Bob Ross would have been a rugged outdoorsman/carpenter. I don't carve but I STILL watch your carving content... GREAT STUFF!

Awesome little carving!! I probably won't carve it for a while, though. I'm going through carvers block because I just lost my grandpa. I keep trying to carve, but it isn't the same without him watching me. He would just sit in his chair and say "your doing great," even though he didn't carve himself, he would always encourage me to keep at it. I plan to start carving a little ball in the cage today. Sorry for dampening the mood😅. You did an awesome job!!!
@thebigyank1
@thebigyank1 6 месяцев назад
I think your grand pa would be saying, Andrew get back at the carving, I'm still with you, I'm just looking over your shoulder. When you were a kid and fell off the bike, you got back up, dusted your knees and got on that bike and rode it into the sun set. After a loss, carving is a way to help heal, to recharge the energy especially if the memories are good ones with your grand pa... Take a few days and morn the loss of your loved one, you should carve when you are rested and focused, however, don't leave it too long, and get back at it, your grand pa will be right there with you all the way!!!

Whenever I watch Doug or any talented experienced carver, I am amazed at how easy the knife seems to slice away wood so easily. Each time I have tried it, I have to practically push with all my strength to get even a basic cut. Practice, I suppose.

Doug I subscribed to the magazine and have been looking at all the articles and such that they have let me see with your code and name, LINKER. I’m new to this stuff but have managed to hang in there with you and make a penguin and an old man face. It wasn’t one of yours but pretty involved and I just did it to see if I had learned anything from you without actually watching while carving. And I did. Thank you for that Doug. I look forward to just getting better and doing a lot of this for my twin 3 year old grandsons. They’ll appreciate their little menagerie Gramma is making them, one day. Take care and wishing all, a Merry Christmas. ✌🏻🤍 I sure hope you’re feeling better.

Hi Doug, amazing little carving as usual. FYI the feather in the hat is known as a" cockade" and it informs the soldier where he should be on the battlefield. The position is always on the left, right or centre of the hat. It stems from the days when most infantryman could not read. It can still be seen in " bearskin" caps of the British brigade of Guards and other regimental ceremonial uniforms.
