I made my own kerfed linings from scratch for the first time. It was actually pretty easy!

Things are looking good Chris. Seems to be a very addictive habit. I have two acoustics and a solid body in progress. Not to mention the never ending line of repairs that come into the shop. I've also got a A style in my future.

Hi! After reading Somogyi's book I glue my knerfings the opposite way you do: with the glue in the non continuous side of it. The rationale behind this is that this way the knerfing is more rigid, enhancing the treble response of the instrument. I would be interesting to see your opinion about this. Thanks!

I don't about any tonal difference but it sure looks cleaner with the smooth side facing into the guitar.

I did the first 3 guitars with reverse kerfing. This mandolin was the first one I did like this. I‘m also doing guitar 4 with standard kerfed linings. Just trying everything out! I do like the reverse better. I think it looks cleaner and the logic that they make stiffer sides makes sense to me. Thanks for watching!

That definitely makes making the kerfed linings look easy. Only negative is my bandsaw is way smaller than yours but I suspect I could still make it and make it work on mine. But it looks simple. So I'm starting full acoustic guitar build #1, inspired in part by your channel and some other channels. Looking forward to seeing how the Mandolins turn out.

Glad to hear you are getting started with your #1! And I do think there shouldn’t be any problems making kerfed linings on a smaller band saw. Good luck on your build!!
