Watched this video again 02.02.2022. Gained more inspiration from this video than any of your others. I made one [my version] after watching this Matt. Thank you.
Wow! I love your elegant style of throwing and embellishing. So much fun to watch. Hope you'll post photos when it's done. Thanks for all your great videos. I'm learning a lot!
Well when you put your head in there you can really see the size of that platter well! Beautiful work thank you for the demonstration, gave me a lot to think about!
When you measure a pot after throwing, I guess the width and height and 9 times out of ten I am within a 1/4" of being right. I have noticed your skill of also "virtually" knowing what the measurements will be. Configuring the pattern you do on this bowl is amazing Matt! you needed NO measurements around the rim and still lined everything up perfectly. Well done.
Thanks. Yes the familiarity with size comes with experience. I did use the trimming spinner from diamond core tools in the middle to help me portion the bowl up into sections before carving.
Another great video with pieces of tips to spark ideas 👍🏼. Tho still some questions- how this is the end when carving, isn’t that glass that your adding? Special kind?are there color choices? Is there a point of to hot for the glass? I would say no since you fire in a gas kiln. Thanks in advance for all you do 👍🏼
Yes those are glass beads. There are color choices but many colors will burn out or be gunky when fired. I use glass in my gas kiln also. Most glass melts around 1500-1700 F
Great question. There was a hump near the bottom that was messing up the inside curve of the bowl. I wanted to trim it out because pulling it was not an option anymore.
