A wonderful practice project for those interested in getting started in the art of wood whittling; Harley Refsal’s flat-plane style carrot project. For those of you who are new to the carving world, Harley Refsal is an award-winning master carver, Swedish Knight of the Realm for his contributions to Scandinavian folk art, and author of many wonderful carving books including Scandinavian Figure Carvings, Carving Flat-Plane Caricatures, Whittling Little Folk, Carving Trolls, and Woodcarving in the Scandinavian Style. I saw Harley demonstrating this carrot project in one of his films on RU-vid and was inspired to share a full tutorial dedicated to this fun project. It’s an excellent practice piece and very satisfying to do. If you want to get started with this hobby, then Harley’s carrot project is an excellent place to begin. Harley’s books are a go-to if you want to be a master carver one day, you’d be learning from the best with these delightful publications.
