Andy Rawls - In this video I'm taking a 13" wide x 36" long blank of black cherry and carving it into a shovel. I'm actually using a pattern from an old grain shovel I found. I use mostly traditional methods to carve out the bowl and handle. I used my bandsaw to rough out the shape and ended up suing my router to cutout the hole for the handle. I tried to use my coping saw here but the material was too thick and it broke. I finished it with danish oil...I hope you enjoy the video!

Thanks for tuning in everybody!! I'll just say this shovel was a ton of work and my arms are still feeling it. It took about two and half days to complete but I think it came out looking pretty good. I hope everybody enjoys the build!

That was so great. It reminded me of wooden shovels my grandpa used on his farm, when I helped him as a kid. WOW you really brought back memories that were long forgot, but still there. I thank you for bringing back those wonderful, and forgotten, until now, memories of my wonderful, kind, and gentle Grandpa. I am now older than he was when he passed. I now own that farm. In my mind and work He lives on. I never expected these feeling when I started watching this video. Now I wonder. Did Grandpa make those shovels? I thank you!

Andy, You do beautiful work. I love the older machines you have in your shop. I have two questions for you. What type of scraper with the two up sweep handles were you using to scrap the chisel marks away on the body of the shovel? And my other question, did you study with someone for furniture making or are you self taught? Thank you and I have subscribed!

Simplisafe seems like a good idea apart from the fact you can use a radio device with the same signal to trick it into thinking the door is still closed and open the door and go inside without the alarm going off in my opinion that's a bit dodgy especially if somebody knows what they are doing and if you've got the simplysafe system and you put the board and stickers on the outside of your house then that definitely wouldn't be good
@The_Osprey

Most criminals aren't that sophisticated. Have you seen "Sexy Beast?" It's a movie. Where there's a will there's a way. You can slow down or stop most opportunistic criminals but there will always be those who go the extra mile. A system to stop them would cost more than your stuff...logic.
