I know you do a lot of it anyway, but these vintage working tractors are what I come here for. Sure it's cool to see the new stuff once in a while and I realize it's a big part of the channel, but these older tractors are what many of us can afford, keep running without help, and what we all use around here as they still get the job job and sometimes turn up in good working condition for as little as $5,000 or even less, that's cheap HP and keeping us out of debt in the longer run as often as anything else. I'll never complain at seeing 60's-90's machines doing their thing. Not Plow day show queens queens or whatnot, but tractors still making their living doing what they were meant to do, and without all the BS that comes with a newer $250,000+ tractor. I had when the old stuff degenerates in to restos (paint jobs, and new seats) and hiding away in a barn (preservation). Or the biggest sin of them all, mangling one all up to have a "pulling tractor" for the county fair every year. Just sell the tractor and buy a newer common tractor for you to butcher and waste. Some us still need these old girls to get by on small acreage operations. I'm often dealing with 10-30 acre fields and maybe never buy a tractor built after the 1980's

Jason, I grew up on a small farm in central KY and we had Case tractors. The largest one was a 1969 Case 530, but we had a 1970 Case 470, a 1958 Case 300, and an older Case SC. All of them were very good tractors and the 530 and 470 were diesel and very fuel efficient. Happy memories, thanks for showing the older Case family.

Around 1970 my dad and uncle bought a 1965 Case 930. It was on LP and had a hand clutch. It turned out to be a good tractor for what we needed at the time. We pulled a 4-16" bottom plow with it. Good tractor.

Awesome video. Been a long time since I seen a 1030 working. Grew up with one. Wheatland, factory cab, 18.4x38's and 11x16 fronts, all fluid filled, giant weights inside the rear wheels and the factory on front. Pulled WAY over it's class. 1030 was rated at 100hp at 1600 rpm(540 pto) but was a good ways past that at full throttle up closer to 2100 rpm. We ran ours from the mid 70's through the late 90's when the dairy farm went to auction. 6000 hours+ and i think all we had to do was rebuild the power steering pump(no doubt because of the fluid filled 11x16's) Changed the oil/filter in the spring(LOTS of oil, i think it was over 3 gallons) topped off the water in the batteries and put it to work on the plow, 20 foot spring tooth, and then later all summer on the forage chopper(Fox) into the fall with the corn. Then parked it in the corner of the yard for the winter. Too cold blooded, and honestly way to brutish for a chore tractor in the winter. The engine was a work of art, the 930 built a reputation and changing the pistons to aluminum made it more responsive for the 1030. That tractor can LUG, full throttle all the way down to about 500 RPM, black smoke, it will chug and recover. We farmed red clay hills on a few fields, it got a work out on the plow. I have no doubt it could pull the disc that 1370 had on it on the flat there without issue. Inside, they were actually very comfy, the seat was amazing, flat floor for your feet to go where you want, you sat up high to see everything easy, nice size steering wheel with good power steering, 3pt. and remote levers were so easy to find after a little bit you didn;t look for them you just moved your hand to them and they were there. i will say the headlights/rear light were about as good as 1930's era though lol. I put a lot of hours in that tractor growing up and I loved every minute and miss it dearly. And I get a chuckle at the 147 rating on the 1370. There were a bunch of those up here in WI back in the day. Nobody left the turbo and fuel stock. They got cranked until it was pointless because you couldn't get any more traction to hold it.

I've run a disk with both of those models for a neighbor in central Illinois. Both of theirs had cabs, the 1030 cab was an aftermarket with canvas sides. My grandfathers had Case tractors on their farms. Lugging ability and fuel consumption were the two reasons they liked the Case tractors. I'm sure pricing was also a factor but they didn't mention that as a reason for purchasing them. They both liked the simplicity and ease of working on them. My father owned an 830 Wheatland and a 930 row crop. Both ran on LPG and the oil got changed because my dad needed something for the hired man to do on rainy days....not because it would get dirty. The brakes (or as I should maybe mention the lack of them) was the downfall of the 930. We used a mounted NH3 applicator pulling a nurse tank and getting that thing to turn at the headlands was a job for 2 men and a boy! My dad bought a 4020 JD and the difference was night and day. Granted the 4020 had 10 more HP but the brakes and the easier shifting Syncro Range transmission was all it took to retire the 930. I remember plowing wheat stubble or discing milo stalks with the 930 as a teenager growing up on our central Kansas farm. At night the muffler would glow orange and the exhaust would have a blue cone emitting from the muffler. After plowing all day in 100F temps the engine would come alive when the evening and night time temps would drop into the 80's.

Thanks for sharing, amongst our fleet we had a Case 430 tractor on our farm in daily use for over 40 years. These were extraordinarily solid and reliable tractors and were repairable by ordinary human beings that did not have a computer science degree. How many new tractors sold today are likely to be still running in 40 or 50 years time...? I admire your videos and like hearing the history of these tractors. If I may, I”d like to encourage you to share more in depth history on these tractors, perhaps highlighting some of the innovations introduced with some models. The Case 430 we had for example had a hand clutch that allowed the tractor to stop while keeping the PTO running, which was a novel feature for its time. We also had a belt drive attachment for the 430, which was probably one of the last tractors to offer this option.

In the very early 1970's our tillage team almost matched that pair (1370 and a 930). We were fortunate enough to have moved up to having cabs on our tractors by that point, but it's nice to see this pair still working. The 930 and 1030 all had a hi/lo range with a 4 speed plus reverse combination for 8 forward and 2 reverse set up. By the mid '70s, the 930 was no longer considered sufficient for much more than augur duty and we added an IH 1468 and soon after, more serious horsepower. But, those two 140 or so hp tractors were sufficient for pulling (rather quickly) a 6 furrow IH vari-width plow, a 25 ft disk and a 32 foot cultivator. Hard to imagine then that today they would be considered insufficient to do much. Lol.

I remember going to the local IHC dealer's open house after that, 1985. They were displaying a new red 2594. I guess they sold a few before the new series came out. I tried to buy a new old stock 5288, but the deal fell through. Some years later I did buy a red 2594, I still have it, one heck of a horse. To think that it uses the same basic 504 motor, but cranks over 200 hp! Only thing that bothers, I have to do the repairs myself, as there's no real Case techs around here. The IHC dealers here can't fix them, hell they can't do a decent repair on the old red line!

They was out there showing off!! Lollol love it! They was Moving pretty fast out there disking! Reminds me of the days I started out on my neighbor's Ford 2000 with a Kings disk! He had some type of older case ih tractor too but dont remember what model it was! It was better than that ford tho cuz it had power steering! Lollol! Then moved up to a John Deere 2940 with a JD 210 disk!

Great video and lovely tractors although I always thought the 1030 looks strange because the steering wheel looks so high, could it be adjusted?

The steering column is fixed on the 1030, where the engineers placed it, is where it stays.

Nice tractors… In my opinion I think it’s best if you pull the disc as deep as the tractor can pull it if not it’s just wasting fuel But that’s my opinion great video thanks for sharing

Was the video sped up or was that 1030 running a little too fast?

they are just hacking the bean ground open so it dries out faster in the spring. shallow and fast , prolly only running a couple inches deep

An the old Case engines with that long stroke an around 1950 RPMs on the top end we’re pretty fuel efficient. LoL the brakes left a little to be desired

ya, the brakes, the seat, the power steering, the pto that never wanted to stop, the non synchro tranny, the hydraulic couplers... not sure what genius engineer thought that it was a good idea to have to pullout a dirty leaky oily old hydraulic line then push the coupler in to get the thing hooked up

When cabs first cane out most farms would not buy them because it was seen as too expensive and a luxury item.
