Thanks for making this video. I've had this apart before but can never remember quite how it goes back together. With over 41K views, you know that you've helped thousands of people. A big thank you from the mountains of western Maine. I use the PTO for my snowcaster and we generally have 4.5 - 6' of snow on the ground for the duration of winter every year. We depend on the Case to move that snow. Thanks again!
Thanks so much! I have never been able to properly assemble the clutch on my 444. I am now looking forward to putting it back together correctly! I've read everywhere that they are so simple, but nothing I've seen has made it such that I understand until now. This really helps!
Thank you very, very much. My 444 clutch was assembled incorrectly and I could not adjust it. With your tutorial I was able to get it to work perfectly. You definitely saved me a huge headache.
This has been very helpful; thank you for explaining it in detail. I have been so frustrated at my many attempts on how to put this clutch assembly back together.
Thanks, I bought a 77 446 and the previous owner had the clutch all messed up with pieces missing so this video really helped. Running the snowcaster no problem!
Thank you for all the help this provided. I just got a case 444 and could not get the clutch to lock. now I see that the guy before me had it all messed up!
awesome. thanks. I took mine apart making sure I stacked everything in the right order and then managed to knock the stack over. so I had things in the wrong order.
Thanks so much. I have the owners manual that does not show how the cams are offset. Neither does the parts manual with the picture how the assembly is put together.
Thanks I just bought a case 222 and the clutch was not working. Now I know why, it was not put together correctly. I can see the cams are lined up and not offset. Thanks to your Video I will have a working case 222 this weekend.
Hi Jim, have an ez adjust clutch coming from gonafixit to replace the shim adjust on my 446. I forgot you had this video to explain the procedure. It'll sure help when I'm installing it!
Thanks for the Video. I have had mine apart no less than 4-5 times. I'm going back to reassemble it. I hope it works now. I had the cams installed incorrectly.
I have a 222 which every part is on correctly as in this video. Adjusted correctly. Mower belt able to move by hand easily but will not grab when engaged. ???
How tight should engagement feel on the clutch lever? I followed as best I could after getting the parts that were missing from mine and I have about .005 gap, which is within tolerance from the manual, but my engagement is quite tight. It looks like the spring washers compress really nice, though, so maybe it's fine. It's a good firm pull to engage the clutch on mine. See an issue with that?
Hi Jim, I Just received a new engaging arm and fan blade to install in my Case 224. I`m pretty positive I have all the parts installed in proper order, as I have viewed your detailed video many times. When I get to the point of tightening the nut to the 45 ft.lb. recommended, I find that the friction disc tightens down to the friction plate. Driving me nuts. I can`t figure out if I`m doing something wrong, or if I have some parts that might be worn. I do see a little wear in the cam notchs but does`nt seem excessive to me. I know it`s tough to tell without the machine in front of you, but Im just throwing it out there. Any ideas. Thank you, Shawn M.
Shawn McGrath the issue is you aren't on your shoulder bolt properly the shoulder bolt should be almost fully compressed when you get that .002 clearance so when you pull that lever back it easily bridges the .002 and bingo you have engagement...these things are a PITA when you first start fudgin with them
I've found that it is pretty normal for the pressure washers to push the whole assembly in tighter than you had planned. What I do is leave the front nut a bit loose and reach around and adjust that big nut. I this video it's the one he keep putting that big adjustable on. I've yet to be able to "set it and forget it". Usually takes me several tries to get it right.
I watched the video to verify I had it all together correctly, but as the tractor runs, the clutch gets loose. I have even tightened it to where it will not disengage, and it still backs off. And that is only after 15 minutes of operation. What am I overlooking?
I have the same problem with mine. Shaft is in new condition, new bearings, new spring shims, new flat shims. I have a new friction material to put on the pulley but it is thinner than the old one?? I get about 30min of mowing and it starts slipping again and when i disengage it there is about 1mm between the clutch plates. It is driving my crazy. I want an electric clutch so bad
The spec is not 'tight' ...it is specific! The .002 clearance between the friction disk and pressure plate MUST be there when the clutch is disengaged...
Follow part 2 .. It explains you must hold that shoulder bolt in 1 position while securing the front nut to specified torque...You MUST make 100% certain tat the clearance between the friction disk and pressure plate is NOT comprimised...
