I need that CASE tractor and the CLAAS mower set up at my home. It will take me all of 3seconds to mow my lawn whilst I spend the rest of the day washing and polishing the kit afterwards!
John Long hello john and thanks very much , nope didnt get them sorted and yes if you can chat on skype mate and show me how to do them please and thanks
Forever. Those collectors halt drydown in the lower half or two-thirds of the windrow. Swathing it as wide as possible out the back of the mowers gives the fastest, most consistent drydown, which is critical for retaining the carbohydrates in the plant; collected up like this the plants remain alive for hours or even days under certain conditions, and normal respiration burns up most of the carbs during that time. The only way the collectors make any sense whatsoever is if the crop is going to be harvested at really high moisture, which is usually bad for crop quality (clostridia bacteria dominate fermentation at really high moisture, which makes the crop slimy and often has excessive levels of butyric acid which is extremely undesirable.) The only way to make this work is to inoculate and / or acid treat at harvest at very high concentrations.
Nice tractor and mower. The collectors are mechanically very cool, but they're the worst possible thing to do to a grass silage crop: they severely impede drydown and because of this the plants remain alive for such a long period of time that respiration continues unabated, burning off most if not all of the carbohydrates in the plant and severely depleting the total nutrients available in the crop. Rather than getting high protein and energy (which is available at mowing) the main thing harvested is protein.
