nice presentation, simple, i've been sailing for decades and never really seen it explained that cleanly.

Woooow!!! close call...I'm very new at this and thank you for making it clear that when you hove to you must keep the alarm clock on and sleep with 1 eye open at all times...

You can heave to on genoa alone.. I do it often, it makes a calm sheltered place to deal with your mainsail..

In a storm when you're hove to, how do you keep your sails from being damaged by the wind?

Not sure if this is correct, but I read that reefing heavily the sails is pretty common. still allows some control.

you seem like a well of knowledge for my book. Trying to write about a Brigantine in the open ocean braving a storm

Good luck with your book. Seems like there is no storm but then in dead calm seas somewhere you do something stupid and die.

Good stuff. You did not really explain HOW to heave to, and your comment about letting the tiller go surprises me. I lash my tiller over to the side opposite the jib.

Figured there are enough videos and tutorials out there explaining how to heave to so no need to create another. You have good point about tiller. I lash to side like you and then leave it alone making adjustments with only sails.
