I've watched him since day 1, his eye, plate discipline, pure swing, and power makes it challenging to get him out consistently. If you throw him a strike forget about it. To get him out you have to throw on the edges with precision and hopes he go out there or inside with a slider to fool him. Otherwise he usually get a bat on the ball. He has hit home runs to all fields and hits right or left handers with authority. I've only seen on a few occasions when a pitcher challenged him with a fastball straight up the gut that he missed, that the pitcher won that at bat.
He also needed to mention how Yordy (Fans nickname) hardly never drops a hand off the bat. I’m 58 & I can’t remember seeing a player do this. It’s remarkable a guy of his size can do this.
@@lesshugah3003 Actually, his swing took him to the Majors. They work with them in terms of pitch recognition but no Sir with all do respect, all this Cubans were consistently hitting like this before getting into the Majors. There is a Cuban school of Coaching the baseball game. Major League Scouts for example can recognize when a Pitcher is from Cuba just by looking at his mechanics. Not taking any credit away from American Coaches. Cuba had more players than any other Country in the Majors before the Dictator Castro suspended Profesional Sports.
@@coachv4712 exactly buddy ,just look at Aroldis Chapman the cuban 🇨🇺 missile like come on !!they are really good in sports defenitely like baseball ,boxing and volleyball
We are going to be talking about this kid for the next 10 years... what an awesome swing he's going to be a all time Astro great..Cruz...biggio . Bagwell.. Ryan..altuve.. Jr Richard.. Verlander Now alverez!!
Yeah, sorry but I'm not turning the other cheek. Everyone trashed on us for yrs. Especially fans of Ball Clubs like the Yankees, Dodgers & especially Cardinals. It's comeuppance for these fools. Karma's a bitch, I'm afraid.
@@superpants07, I have never heard trash talk from Cardinals fans. Certainly the Cardinals team was a thorn in the side of the Astros for many years, but that isn't the same as trash talking fans.
The same things that Barry and Alex are talking about and now I see every one is talking about this, hitting Down-ward ,they are up to something here,,, I love it !!! And thank you guys for back up what Alex started you just enforce it and making easier to grasp it....
I think it's better compared to chopping at a tree trunk. Or hitting a stake into the ground. Stepping into the ball. If you have ever swung a sledgehammer. Balancing all your weight against the ball. Smash it like two planters colliding
gathering as much momentum in a short step as possible, moving your body down gives you more movement with a short steps. Yard and Alvarez will be one of the greatest hitters of all time if he does not get Hurt to
We aint worried about him.....go CUBS! Ok....ok.....ok..... he's the truth already! He reminds me more of 2 guys i watched as a kid. Dave parker and dave winfield! Parker i believe was a switch hitter at 6-5 who drove downward on the ball with nice bat control. Winfield at 6-6 drove downward with incredible power as well.
With all do respect, to a few here miss understanding what this guys are trying to say. His swing has nothing to do with Alex and a few other players that were teaching the same they were told but they never did if you watch their swing in slow motion..swinging down on the ball. No one hit down on the ball and hit a homerun, this is wrong and impossible. You go down like a plane to get your swing path level with the ball but immediately your swing start going up. Every interview Alex Rodriguez did to other players regarding to this they disagree. Since Babe Ruth and Ted Williams to Hank Aaron, Barry Bonds..all the way to today players..they are swinging up, at an angle of 20 to 30 degrees. No one is swinging down or getting backspin in the ball, makes no sense to swing down on a ball that is coming down hill. This was a concept that a Coach start teaching and people start repeating as Parrots but no one did it in real life. Of course you start down cause you need to get your bat path behind the ball, but as soon as the bat is in the correct path it start swinging slightly up before the contact point, so the bat never hit the ball down..if it does is a guaranteed ground ball. Actually, is the other way around..everyone is now talking about hitting the ball up..and a lot of players have completely changed their swing and their Slugging Production increased drastically, like JD Martinez, Josh Donaldson or Christian Yelich. Can't believe there is still Coaches out there teaching young players to hit down on the ball. Wait until they get to High School to see if they can get on base with ground balls like they did in Little League or Travel Ball (unless you are a Billy Hamilton) Sorry, but when we heard this method in Cuba we were like who is teaching this? the physics and bio mechanics of hitting a baseball will prove this theory wrong every time. America has a tradition of good Coaching and power hitters, actually Ted Williams hitting philosophy disagree with this method.
He played outfield in the minors. I don't think he ever DH. One of reasons why Astros waited was to give him more practice in the field in the minors. He decent as I've seen him in outfield. May not be very fast, but I believe he can improve his speed.
Now that the swinging down on the ball concept believers realized they are far away from reality they are changing their story to "we are not saying swinging down but start down hill..." and misleading the launching angle with leaning back...Your hands are way above the strike zone, of course you'll always start down to get your bat in path but once you get there if you want to hit the ball as far as you can you'll have to swing up period.
SC is still hanging on to the myth of 'hands down to the ball'. Watch the video, YA's hands don't go A 2 B. They travel on an arc created by the shoulders rotating around the spinal axis (arms form the radius). YA's hands are rising before contact thus the barrel is rising to meet a descending pitch path. I'm so sic of those guys (Reynolds included) selling their old mechanics snake oil. Remember what Donaldson said, 'kids, if your coach says hands down to the ball...run... he's wrong.' Get JD back on and take a refresher course. SC loves to 'bash' launch angle. Notice, every time he talks launch angle he leans back implying an upper cut swing. He's an idiot! and he's not fooling anyone anymore. Why are MLB players hitting so many home runs? They have figured out and applied the physics: same pitch, same bat speed, steeper front angle and you're in the gap or a HR. Hitting coaches are converting to this new pro swing. Does Aaron Judge, Vlad Jr, Bregman, JD, Bichette, etc have upper cut swings?? NO! What Casey never seems to get is the importance of the line from the front foot to the head (front line angle). The angle of that line effects launch angle. Every good hitter has a GREAT front line angle. This is FACT. Check it out yourself, reader. Google 'MLB swing at contact', select images. You'll see 2 things: great front line angle and the shoulders are across the plate (facing the pitcher). Just the facts. Like JD said, ' we don't get paid to hit grounders'. Casey is the only one stepping off the curb... and the Fact Bus just hit him.
Hitting is all about adjustments, and those adjustments remind me of a video I recently saw. You know damn well we know u saw it too Mr Casey, wink wink. The price should be using your platform to get those two into the Hall. You know which two I’m referring to. Wink wink.
Why would the Astros let him go while he's under contract and barely making the league minimum? Maybe 3-4 yrs from now when they start their next rebuilding phase and he only has a year left on his contract, they might trade him for prospects. Who will the Yanks give up to get him? We'll see.
