Dude that makes me so happy to hear! haha I'm glad you liked the breakdown too. That was like my first time every talking to camera and I was so nervous. so I'm glad you got something from it!! Appreciate you big time Dawson!!
You know i never thought about headsets being useful for me cuz im usually on small sets like yours for my indie stuff but the use case of just quite chill comms is soo smart i never thought if that! thanks for that insite! plus lets not forget they look coool and give the crew that "knows what they are doing" look 😎 great work all around man!
Haha I felt about 50x cooler wearing that headset. Honestly worth it alone just for that. But it is really helpful not having to yell across set. Appreciate you watching!!
Thank you Jonathan, that makes me so happy that you found this helpful. It makes all the work that goes into these videos worth it. Appreciate you big time!
Really impressive job Carsten! Btw watching the short film I for sure thought the kid would've handed off the can out of frame, before making the throwing motion, but boy was I wrong 💀. I don't even wanna imagine 🤣
im new to production wrote my first movie and about to start the shoot and basically doing it just like you I already know shots songs and I also don't have a lot of experience but have good mentors and great cinemetgephers that I feel comfortable but nervous but got almost all ready good luck on your future projects and hey hope in working one day with you I think this is a different way of making movies and will continue to change and I feel we will be part of it great work!!!!!!! also self invested and all most all done by me and so much cash I have spent but feel the same as you hope for the best expect the worse cuz I been putting a lot of cash in to my first Indi film and im using the SONY FX-3 as A camera and the FX-30 for B camera
Yo dude, that's awesome!! Good luck on your film, I'm sure you'll kill it! Fx3 is a beast of a camera lol, just bought one myself. I agree I do think the industry is changing and maybe we will work together one day! Thanks for watching man!!
Great video man! This definitly gives some insight into the different aspects of filmmaking. As someone who wears many hats myself, this reminds me that anything is possible as long as we put our minds to it and we all make mistakes! I'll deffs look back on this when I make my fist short film! Subbed!
Thank you as always my guy!! For sure, pretty much what I mean is, it doesn’t look like he is looking at the cashier because of the camera position I chose. Pretty much just follow the 180 degree rule and you will be fine! Just look up “180 degree rule when filming a scene” and you will find out a ton about it and how to apply it. Maybe I’ll make a longer vid explaining it in the future! Appreciate you watching!
Invaluable information. Thank you so much!! Question: what was the process for securing the location? Did the business have to shut down for the day? Did you pay them?
Thanks Daisha! I really appreciate that! So the process for securing it was pretty simple I had a friend who has worked at the store for years so I called her and explained what I was trying to do and she got the owner on board. We shot this at night after the store closed (mainly because we didn't have the budget to pay a store to close for the day). I offered to pay them $100 per hour to rent the location but they ended up being incredibly kind and letting us use the space for free. This isn't normally how renting locations go lol. Normally I call around to local businesses or go in ( always make sure it's local businesses big chains will always say no) and explain what I am trying to film and offer them 500-600 bucks. Most places will say no but eventually you'll find one that says yes! hope this helps
What's the budget for this? Just curious. Audio seems great, I've read that audio engineers can tell the difference in a single decibel when they fiddle with those filters.
Was the 4K out of pocket or did your crowdfund? Wanna shoot my first project soon but i'm broke asf lol. I hate to keep postining because of financial restrains but i really wanna tell this story. Love the transperancy and openness in the vid, subscrbed!
Yeah the 4k was out of pocket. I totally feel that though man, this was the first time I was really able to afford to put down money like that and it was still a little bit of a stretch. Crowd funding is a solid way to go too! A buddy of mine raised 3k for his first film through crowd funding. My advice would honestly be if you really want to tell this story and tell it well. Save every penny you can till you have enough to do it right! Ive made stuff before that I really cared about and was so excited to make, I didn't wait till I had the resources and every time I was slightly disappointed with the results. I truly believe in quality over quantity and even though it can be hard to wait and save it will pay off. Good things take time!!
Hey, thanks for this video! I would love to see a video talking of the audio production part. Like how recorded the dialogs and how you put together in post. I hope its possible. Thanks
Everything we used can be bought from B&H I believe. The main things were, BMCC 6k full frame, Leica 24-70 2.8 photo lens, Amaran F22c, Nanlite Pavo tube 30C, and white pool noodle (from amazon). If there is anything else you are curious about let me know!
Yup! it was really just about blocking the talent to land where they had the most about of shape on their face. We also did block out all of the overheads behind cam with a wall of black fabric to help add shape as well!
I want to be an actor in movies, so when I graduate from school, I am going to acting school because it would be easier, I also want to start making flims
Why is it so hard to add a link to the actual video in the description? You might think it's just two extra clicks, but it's not. It's a lack of a basic user experience. And you're losing potential viewers who don't want to bother clicking and searching for the video. And I'm not trying to be a jerk. I liked the video, liked the film idea and wanted to see it. But had to move from the phone to the desktop to find the film.
Amazing work!! I am a composer, and I would love to collaborate with you on a project some time. Please let me know if you would be interested. I look forward to seeing more!
