Strep is not just a winter illness it's also very popular during the spring but can also occur all year round in childcare and schools due to close contact settings.It's also known that kids who still have their tonsils will be highly more likely to get it. The same with adults. I am preschool teacher and I usually get it twice a year. Another thing is if parents report it. Our school has a policy of informing school when a child has strep so that the room can be fully disenfected so less children get it. If parents don't report we don't know and it's worse when parents don't and bring their children to school. I have parents who know their child is sick..they medicate them and then send them to school. Eventually medications wears out and their sickness appears. Sometimes we can tell when the child is exhausted. As your child gets older and still has their tonsils be prepared for strep cases. I know I used to have them all the time because of other kids having it and coming to school.

Thank you so much for this Amber and the insight! He still has his tonsils but at this point I’m ready for a consult to remove them, I’ve heard it’s easier on children for recovery than for adults because of the liquid diet 🤞🏼 but yeah we notify every time and it just seems it goes on deaf ears 😢

I just got strep this week. I haven’t had it for YEARS! I forgot how bad it sucks. Hopefully he doesn’t catch it again.

When I was a kid, I got strep 6 times in a year so they scheduled me for a adnoid+tonsillectomy! I never got strep after that!

Usually they only need to miss school for a day or 2 for strep. Once the anti-biotic kicks in, they go back.
