CASHEW VS MACADAMIA MILK : What's better? - Fake Milk Face Off 

So I got a few comments saying I shouldn't call plant milk "fake". Who thinks I should change the name "fake milk face off" to something else? I'm open to suggestions for new titles. I already filmed a bunch of these, but can at least change the text.

The stop motion death scene at the end is wonderful. These make me want to get every plant based milk in the grocery store.

As someone who loves bread, I think it would be cool to have a bread off- that is, trying to make bread out of all types of flour available. I don't know how feasible it is to do, since it would take a lot more prep, but it would certainly be interesting to see.

The macadamia nut milk has an emulsifier in it (sunflower lecithin). That might be why it doesn't separate in coffee. If you find other nut milks with emulsifiers in them you may have more luck.

where milkademia really shines is when you are frothing it for a latte, unlike cashew milk and almond milk it holds a froth and makes for a much lower calorie substitute over the others

I loved the playful yet creepy tone to this one! Also, knowing that you have eaten things like green almond fruit and cashew apple makes me wonder if there are edible fruits related to other nuts they milk.

Try tiger nut milk, tiger nut is still used today, I think it's an even older alternative than most on this list.

I really like the consistent recent increase in quality.

Random fact: nut milks are really old, and were commonly consumed way longer ago than you might think. You find lots of recipes call for almond milk and the likes in old western recipes, like 1600s old. And they were super mainstream, more so than they are today. They have been ‘trendy’ and mainstream multiple times in history. I’m sure they’ve also been commonly consumed in lots of cultures around the world, but this is just what I know of. But yeah most of these milk substitution products, aren’t new concept created for the current vegan community. Most of them are super old, and just seeing a bigger interest and some tweaking with the recipes, because there is a bigger interest in them again.

How are you deciding those pairings? Randomized?

Oat should win this imo. Earth's own unsweetened is pretty good, or oatly (if you can get it)

Could you try to get some Perfect Day milk / ice cream / cheese when/if it's available ? It's animal free and vegan but it's the real milk proteins (whey and casein), that have been re-created using gmo yeasts

It would have been interesting to see a new set of tests for round two (like doing some cooking). But, I think your point is to check which fake milk is best for these daily basic things, so yeah same set of tests is also fine, just less interesting

I think fake milk is fine. My wife (and baby) is needing to go dairy free and is using milk substitutes. They seem to try to mimic the dairy milk look, taste, and other characteristics. ‘Fake it’ in a sense. If they were not worried about mimicking dairy milk, would they look and taste as they do? Thank you for this series - it will be helpful.

I don't know that Almond milk got a fair shake because I've had a lot of different brands of almond milk and the variance is huge. Personally I prefer the blue diamond for my everyday for cereal or coffee or anything else. I also like Hemp and oat milk but almond is easier to find and not as thin as hemp and also not as fattening as oat though oat is creamier usually. Also should add I prefer the unsweetened version of almond but that brand doesn';t go overly sweet either when that choice isn't available.

I tried a fake milk (almond) for the first time last week, used it for coffee, did not lighten like cream, and made the coffee taste almondy, yuck!

I actually love milkadamia in coffee I thought it was great taste.. the taste I taste in milkadamia is a sweet macadamia nut taste, although I love macadamia nuts, so I’m probably biased. Lol

In terms of heart health, your better off with macademia milk, it has very low omega 6 to omega 3 ratio compared to cashew milk, any other benefits of cashew milk probably don't make up for that unless your someone lucky enough to have LDL cholesterol under 100,

I’d love to see this challenge repeated but instead use homemade nut milks made with something like the Almond Cow, so there isn’t a bunch of bonus flavors / ingredients throwing off the judgment.
