I actually did exactly what you suggested... bought the sand and really liked it but wanted to try the grey one with the neg display. Normally can't see them for $#!+ but thought I'd try. For a neg display it really is pretty good. But still sucks for old eyes so I swapped the module and now LOVE IT. My go to daily driver. It's a near G-Shock with a giant legible display. Cost me $50 to get what I wanted but hey, I got what I wanted.
Hey Dennou thanks bud and welcome to the channel!! Great to hear that switch worked well for you, seems more and more people are trying these simple mods 😋😋👍👍
For anyone wondering about doing this but using only one watch instead of buying 2 and swapping modules - you can replace the polarizing film on these very easily. It costs a few dollars/quid to do, you can get a polarizing film/sticker used in phone lcd repair that's much larger than needed, peel the old polarizer off (it's the topmost layer on the modules display), and stick on the new one in the correct orientation. You check the required orientation by rotating the polarizing film until you get the negative or regular display, since you get both of those just by rotating the film.
Less bothered by the 10 year battery wording (it IS a fairly standout feature of these amazing value Casio beaters, after all) and the faux screws. When I got my tan version a while back, I was simply grateful for finally being able to scratch that itch I developed for a ridiculously overblown digi, when I saw the full CGI astronaut watches worn in Alfonso Cuarón's "Gravity"... Mission accomplished!
To update as promised I have received both the white and a blue one the white of course having the neg display and the blue the standard display. I find the neg display on the white one perfectly acceptable and have no trouble in normal daylight reading it, in low light it's less easy to read than the standard display, of course. I am very pleased with both of these and for what I paid for them they are a complete bargain! The strap does, by the way appear to be a slightly darker shade of off white than the case, but barely noticeable. I have spent a few hours in the pool swimming with both of these and have experienced no cloudiness to the glass afterwards, so both seem perfectly watertight I'm happy to report. As I said I'm very pleased with both of these, but I think I prefer the look of the white with neg display over the blue standard display. When the sand colour one becomes available for the same price as the others I'll definitely be getting one of those for the hat-trick! 😁
@@markthomas741 awesome Mark thanks bud, good to hear they're a success!! I use mine when swimming also and still holding up but there are some peeps who've had issues so worthwhile keeping an eye on it 😎👍
Have had the Kakhi model for almost 2 years. So inexpensive going to get the off white you reviewed and the light black. Absolutely love these watches. What makes them really unique is the larger numbers for aging eyes. Keeper. Thanks for your review.
gdday 34 and welcome to the channel sir, yup I've still got this and plan to wear all summer, think it's ideal as a good weather watch especially in this off white :) and yes my eyes also appreciate those big numbers hahaha
@@thetimebombardier Ordered the off white and black today. What the hell. Had a brain fart on the year for the date. It's 2099 not 2029. Won't be alive then so it's great.
cheers Graham, yup for ageing eyes this is one of casio's best digi displays I think, most of their others have me squinting silly, welcome to the channel mate :)
cheers Maryo (great surname you have sir!!!) for a cheap watch these are hard to beat, and I was checking out your drone vids, that's something I've been wanting for a long time!!
@@thetimebombardier Hey, thanks...you're right, is a great watch...i also received with this one, GBD 200 too, the green one, and i love it. I am happy if you liked my drone videos, please subscribe for more videos ;) .
I bought a watch that has a dark display. So far it works flawlessly and is great for everyday use. However, I think that digital watches with bright displays are much more practical in situations where the light is reduced because the content on the display is more visible, so you don't have to use the watch's light. No matter which variant you choose, you won't have a problem, because the price/quality ratio is, in my opinion, optimal.
U said u’ll take it over the AQ any day. Is it true that it is better than the AQ with solar? I am going back and forth deciding between the AE1500 and the AQS810. If you have to keep only one, which one u’ll keep? AE1500 or AQS810?
thanks dude and welcome to the channel and yeah I got the AQ as my brother recommended it to me and it's a cool watch, but to me the AE is just heaps better, way more legible, looks better and yes normally i prefer solar due to the longevity it offers but again I found too many isses with the watch, it may depend on use also, if you want a bash and crash watch get the AQ but if you want a daily get the AE, hope that helps ;)
Cheers Chris 😎👍 i might have some updates on alternate straps soon as one of the channel subbers is modding his so i'll share that option in a few weeks 😎👍
Been thinking about one of these I prefer the sand coloured version, but where I am they are sold out everywhere or going for twice the price of the other colours. My second choice is the ivory, so just ordered it, fingers crossed I will find the negative display easily legible, but for under the equivalent of £18 where I am it's not really much of a gamble. ...will update!
cheers Mark and yeah I usually don't like the neg displays but this one is different, the sand ones do look nice also, you could end up with one for each wrist LOL
@@thetimebombardier I'll probably go for the blue one as well, but first I'll wait for the ivory one to arrive and see how much I like it. One for each wrist, eh, as tempted as I may be to do that I'll just make do with one at a time I think or people'll think I'm a weirdo! lol Thanks for the reviews, by the way..
So, we call it legible now, right? Cause i call it aging, or to be more specific...presbyopia! 😜 Luckily, you and me, having myopia, still have the chance to raise our glasses and bring something close to read it. Wonder for how long though... Btw, no matter what you say, this is big, in all dimensions, and that's a... fuckT.... 😂😂 Cheers mate, hope all is well on your part of the world. Here is living hell, 42+ in the shadow! PS Met Bob and his Canadian crew, had a great time. Your turn now, raki is waiting...
hahaaha yeah I'll be ordering a microscope soon mate LMAO!!! 42 in the shade is gonna hurt, hope you have the beer cooler running 24/7!!! and very jealous Bob gets to visit your island before I do... :D
Great review!!! I'm planning to buy it in this color. How is it now, did it become discolored? I read some white resin straps become yellowish with sweat and sun exposure. I hope someone can enlighten me.
Cheers bud and yup these are superb for the price and yes with time the resin will get marked more than the darker colours but if it gets too bad they are very cheap to buy new bezels and straps 😎👍
That black part underneath isn't a color design, it's the module itself. There is no shock protection on this watch at all. And the white part on top is the bezel itself held in place with glue. It will pop right out if taken into a hot kitchen.
thx for covering this would u mind recommending some straps for ae1500 and a168 I am planning on getting them but I hate the straps with buckles that scratches my laptop, keyboard etc ..any rubber band like strap or something? plz do recommend something
Bro, what does the bezel & strap looks like? Plasticy or looks tough? Because i am planning to buy the black color negative display, but when i saw this color i am having a second thought. Thank you
Hey Dave thanks bud and welcome to the channel, the bezel is good and seems resilient, already given it a few lumps 😅😅 and it's slightly lighter shade than the strap, tbe strap tho i'm finding is not great, yes it's smooth and the keeper locks in great but the articulations don't articulate and dig into my wrist, not great in the heat but mighr be ok in the colder months,
The fake screws and the printed text is all part of the brand and the charm of it. If you want a more stylish watch get another brand or a more expensive Casio. Also you could have chosen another case and strap color. The black ones are less "garish". Thanks for the video anyway. It's a fine review. (I have the AE-1500 with positive display and black strap. It's a keeper).
@@thetimebombardier Have to say that you're doing a great job showing the specific model and sharing your thougts about it. A great help for people interested in watches.
i'm confuse about the size of the strap some people said the strap of this watch is kind of hard to replace cause i'm want to try on the nylon strap , what's opinion sir ?
Hey DS yeah I've not tried swapping it out yet as the strap is sort of working ok for me at the moment, have you seen any extenders like Jays n Kays to put it on a nylon?
@@thetimebombardier i think it work, i saw some video from a guy in Philippines he use a different adapter which is only made in Philippines but it looks similar to the jays and kays adapter so maybe you could try it
@@thetimebombardier the housing on the back of the watch broke where the band pin is inserted so it can’t be replaced. I told Casio about it and they wanted me to send the watch to them. I told them I wouldn’t spend $10 in postal fees to have them look at a $20 watch. I won’t buy anything from Casio again.
@@shawnwilson7180 sucks you got a dud. Casio is king of budget watches. I would have sent it in and told them to comp the postage fees. Sounds like you weren't too assertive and didn't take care of it.
Why do people like negative displays? Genuinely curious. Even if this one is much better than most, they are still harder to read than a normal display.
Hey VNW thanks dude and yes it's a great question, I did a vid recently on the highest sold gshocks and oddly it's the neg displays that are most popular, my ageing eyes struggle with negs but when younger they didn't bother me, maybe that's why? Either that a most peeps don't use the digi part 😎👍
I had no clue when I bought and received mine today, about this neg or pos thing. I'll be sending mine back tomorrow. Can't see the f..king thing. Ugh!
@@googo151 Yeah, on most smaller displays the negative display option for me is impossible to see. I’ve been curious about this one though since the display is so HUGE. I bought this watch as a gift for someone with the normal display and I really liked it. Enough where I want to buy one for myself now. I was thinking of getting this white one with the negative display, just to have something different in my collection. Hoping the GIANT display would make it readable. Sorry to hear you don’t like yours. If I don’t like the white one with negative display, I might return it too and get the black or blue one with a normal display. I really like this watch. Especially for $20!
It's because they look cooler than the positive displays. I was looking into getting myself one some years ago, so I bought a chinese copy to check these negative displays myself. And while they're not awful, they're not ideal for daily use. Luckily it's not an issue with negative displays in general, just with entry level ones. Maybe changing the polarizing filter for a better quality one could fix the issue.
@@PaKePo I ended up buying this watch with a negative display. It was much easier to read that other smaller negative displays, but still hard and not ideal. I returned it and got the blue one with a positive dial and… I LOVE IT. The blue looks almost like a grey in certain light. It looks fantastic, the positive display is perfect. I love this watch and can’t believe it only cost $23. That’s insane. If you really want a negative display, this one is probably the best one to get because the display is so huge.
so i already have a daily ⌚ watch (Seiko SNKL41J1 Vintage Japan Edition) but i ordered mother's polish mag from wall mart and instead they sent female trousers 😅. i called up and they refunded my 6$ and they gave me a $10 coupon. and since the last coupon ($20) i got expired adter 90days i figure id use the $10 immediately so now im in the market for a $20 dollar item. Enter a humongous G Shock Looking item ive had my eye on previously and now ill be able to get it for $10 😂
chers Eiol, yup for the price they can make displays like this which are way better than most gshocks, but not sure this one is as robust as the gees but still pretty good 😎😎
hey dude - great question as they are both very cool watches!! the 1500 is quite a bit wider so your wrist size will be a part of that decision i think, the world timer map on the 1000 is so very geek retro, but to me the larger display on the 1500 is what i like so much about it, for my ageing eyes it's so clear from all angles 😎😎
I got this watch with a negative display a couple of weeks ago and I can bare make out what the display reads in any light except looking directly at it. I have watched 7 or 8 reviews of the negative watch and they all show this watch at easy to read. Mine is completely the opposite. Which is a great shame as I love the white/putty colour...................
hey Aidy, damn that's odd mate, have you considered changing the battery? mine is so clear to read and that surprised me so much as virtually all over casios non MIPS neg displays just don't work for my ageing eyes LOL
