Hi! When solving square equation (for example x^2=25) this method it only shows one (-5) of two (-5 and 5) values of X. Is there any way to display both using this method (and not by using Equation/Func (menu-->A) function)?

It probably using newtin rhapson method and you can specify initial value from where it gonna start converge.When you press solve enter possible values greater then positive root to converge to positive root or enter lower values than possible negative root to converge to negative one..Figured out on my own after went mad ..

That's a great explanation but in the title it says that it works on the fx-87DEX, too. However, there doesn't seem to be a solve function on that device, all other necessary tools and characters exist though.

sorry I was on vacation. You have to enter it in the format calculator accept it. The calculator can't solve for non-linear equations. yours have a²+b². The a² can't be solved.

Make sure to set the unit in radian. Also remember the Solve feature can’t always solve.

I don't know why whenever I try to solve for x , x^3-x-4=0 . I always get ans x = 1.796321903 no matter what value I put. For ex. if i put x=2 I still get ans 1.796321903 when correct ans should have been 2.

Some values are not possible to convert to fraction. Perhaps set the decimal points yo 3 or 4 , then you may get fraction

I am also trying to find out how to sum algebraic equations like 6x + 2x + 2a - 8a on my calculator for example but my 991EX Casio calculator will not let me use the algebraic letters if I do not give them a value, when I was hoping to only get the letters as the output, not to assign any numbers to them.

Why no matter I tried to solve your last sample equation the answers is always 0.321782581 and not 0.335627954 as your answer.

I belive you equation is this: 3x^2-9=0. how do you enter 9? you must enter it a=3, b=0,c=-9 and you will get the right answer. you have to move 9 to the left side which becomes -9 and which would be the value of c.

the Last calculation is wrong. You have to change the mode from Radical into Degree to input COS(45).

Hi Sir, how do you solve for two variables in terms with the other. Example, 5x+2y-14=0 when x=2 To solve for Y in 991 ES: Input: 5x+2y-14=0,Y pressing shift solve, X? Input 2, Solve for Y? Equals gives the answer of 2. I can't do this function in 991-EX. It gives a syntax error. Though I am aware you can solve by substituting x with 2.

you can do up to 8 variables, A, B, C, D, E, F, X and Y. but X is always the variable SHOULD be unknown. so you should enter variables. so use 5x+2y-14=0 where X should be unknown or switch the x and y. X must be unknown. Enter the value of Y and it will solve for X

I got it. Shift solve then input the value of x which is 2, equals it should automatically solve for y.

No. It will not solve for Y. It always solves for X. So you have use the 2 for Y, make your equation as 5y+2x=14=0

Deniz Erdem Try to solve the quadratic equation in the Equation/function mode, this will give you all results based on the power of the polynomial, you can access this mode by MENU, scroll down to option A, 2: polynomial and simply type in your equation, I hope that helps :)
