LOL I've never been asked this before, and I've never really thought about it! There's no real song list - it's mostly improvised short pieces, but there are a few well-know pieces demonstrated. After going back and listing some of these, I never realized quite how many songs I was stealing; hope I don't get a strike over this! 00:00 Grieg: Piano Concerto, second movement 01:42 Commodores: Easy (beginning/pastiche) 02:33 Mike Oldfield: Tubular Bells (pastiche) 03:09 Journey: Dont Stop Believing (pastiche) 03:25 onwards: just me, noodling 03:59 Yes: Awaken (pastiche) 04:32 Adele: Hello (pastiche) 05:09 noodling/old silent movie theme 05:39 onwards: me noodling 08:05 Dave Brubeck: Unsquare Dance (pastiche) 08:17 Dave Brubeck: Take Five (pastiche) 09:05 onwards: me noodling 10:02 Billy Joel: Just the Way You Are (pastiche) 10:42 Whitney Houston: Saving All My Love (beginning/pastiche) 10:59 onwards: me noodling 13:27 Supertramp: If Everyone Was Listening (pastiche) 13:44 Supertramp: Dreamer (pastiche) 14:19 Chris de Burgh: A Spaceman Came Travelling (pastiche) 14:50 onwards: me noodling 16:29 noodling on the octotonic scale in the style of Olivier Messiaen 17:20 onwards: me noodling (bit of JS Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor) 17:45 onwards: me noodling 18:43 The Doors: Light My Fire (pastiche) 19:11 onwards: me noodling 19:46 Focus: Birth (pastiche) 20:23 Peter Warlock: Capriol Suite, Movement I: Basse Danse (pastiche) 20:44 onwards: me noodling 21:11 The Beatles: Strawberry Fields (pastiche) (this alone could get me a strike!) 21:22 Van Halen: Jump (pastiche) 21:38 Rick Wakeman: Excerpts from The Six Wives of Henry VIII (from "Yessongs") (pastiche) 22:36 Supertramp: Fool's Overture (pastiche) 23:01 onwards: me noodling 28:07 Yes: Roundabout (pastiche) 28:16 Eagles: Hotel California (pastiche) (another strikes) 28:34 onwards: me noodling 32:15 Casio's own onboard demo
The drum sounds you mention can be accessed externally where a full GM soundest is available. Quite a lot of extra goodies are available when studying the CT-S1 MIDI spec, which is now available at Casio manual downloads.
I'm returning to this video from time to time just for the sake of your playing. You should definitely post more often even just a piano/organ/synth solos 💚
One of the other comments on this channel talked about the CT-S500, which came out after this. If you've got the extra cash, it might be worth checking that out; it apparently has all the same sounds as the CT-S1 plus a load more.
I have used the CT-S1 as a MIDI controller with several instrument apps on my iPad. I connect via Bluetooth (I use the CME WIDI uHost because I already owned it and therefore did not need to buy Casio's BT adapter). I connect the headphone jack from my iPad to the audio-in jack on the CT-S1 and use the built-in speakers (if I am playing alone or with a few friends and don't need an amp). This works as a great, compact setup. I don't even need a stand. I place the CT-S1 on my lap and have a guitar strap around my waist to keep it from sliding off.
I don't think that had been released when I got the CT-S1 (it seems to have some out the following year). Just watched a few videos on the CT-S500 and it does look like a better deal, yes. It has all the sounds from the CT-S1 plus hundreds more, and for not much more money. Given the choice I'd probably go for the CT-S500 if I was buying today. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
Have you tried to run this keyboard through an amp? I understand that you can only do this through the headphone jack. The piano sounds surprisingly great for the price.
Aww... sorry about that! I missed a few along the way - I've since sold this keyboard, so I can't remember what that one sounded like or why I skipped it! 🙂
