Jack is so right, it’s not just the Yamaha. Most digital pianos feel like tech from the early 2000s. I want a digital piano that combines a Roland FP90X, a Neural DSP Quad Cortex and a Nintendo Switch, that you can also plug a guitar into.

I have a PX-S6000, its lovely. Slim, modern looking, amazing speakers, great keybed. I keep it on my desk, so didn't need the legs of the S7000. I was looking for ages for a fully weighted 88 key piano/controller, and this is it. I have pianoteq 8, but in truth most of the time I just use the piano's native sounds, and just use pianoteq to record everything I play (as it automatically keeps track of all the midi)

The 6000 has the dials which is nice coming from the PX-S3100, but I reckon I'll pay the extra once I upgrade for the 7000 because it has the 3 premium sampled Grand Pianos vs 1 one on the 6000 and it also has the 50 extra famous piano sounds. Would suck to miss those dials though.

Dear Jack, I know that Andy is a storefront first and they're the one who cuts the checks - but it's been sad to see these video feel more and more like commercials over the past two years. You helped me find my first keyboard over the pandemic - a deeply loved, now gone, Juno ds88 - and I began watching the videos regularly after that search. I check in most mornings with coffee - I've become twisted - my favorite news is now piano news. You are clearly the best anchorman. I check in with everyone now - sonic, bo, loo, badgear paul scheer, etc. - but you are the king of this. I wanted to add one voice to the scale - I miss the long video shootouts, I miss your opinion, I don't care if X other video has analyzed Y synth to death - I, and I think 'we', are here because of your playing and the particular way you approach/discuss these instruments. The channel feels somewhat deflated now - closer to industry pitch vids than review/culture. I understand a music store keeps the lights on, wants good relationships with makers, and doesn't want you dumping on store stock. This request is unreasonable. But - I miss you f-ing around, wasting time, bringing your playing experience to critically analyze new instruments. How did we get so lucky at the beginning when you were more free and honest and cutting? You're still the best in the business. Thank you always for these videos. When grad school gets too heavy, nothing gets me level like spending time with this weird parasocial relationship. Like these babies? Who would ever? The Casio feels like garbage - they still haven't figured out those keys with the tiny travel - feels like playing in a cramped room. The face buttons are poop too. I hate my phone. I hate touch screens. Why am I playing a big heavy tactile instrument to have the face buttons be half responsive apple knock-off numb. Sure its the only pretty keyboard on the market - but for what? Everything that makes it beautiful makes it worse to play.. The 515 is also a ridiculous instrument for the "I don't really know anything but have money" segment. Nice keybed - great. Yamaha core sounds - great. Why does it have speakers? Is it a home-only piano ? - why not a furniture digital piano? why not a free giveaway on the internet acoustic - moving/tuning will cost you much less than this. are you really gonna lug this on stage to get laughed at? who would want to listen out of its compromise shoved in the body speakers? if you care about action why not get a numa x gt, a used rd2000, SL grand or kawaii. and goes without saying, but saying - the Yamaha looks like a grandpa instrument. defiantly unsexy - not proudly unsexy like a deepmind or a polybrute. It should come out of the box with a thin layer of dust from neglect. A sign of times to come. Let jack be free, Andertons. Or Jack, start your own channel. I would gladly join a patreon for Jack piano/synth content. I would guess many many others would too. -Jacob

Both of these instruments are generally liked and popular ones. You are entitled to your opinion, but don't assume that Jack and everyone else shares your opinion about these instruments. If you were to use these live, you would use the line outputs, that is why these have those. Internal speakers are for home usage mainly. Furniture style digital keyboards are much heavier and takes up more space, so they are not ideal for everyone. It is great to have different options as a customer. Retailers can't really do reviews, as they are always biased as they are selling the products. Retailers do demos. You don't see thomann, sweetwater or any other retailer in other product spaces doing reviews of the products they are selling.

I've owned a Yamaha P515 for around 4 years now, and imo the CFX Grand is not the best piano on it. I massively prefer the Bosendorfer Imperial Grand sampling which is the 2nd piano on there. Any comparisons to the P515 piano should be made to that Bosendorfer IMO :) Also there is something IMO special about the natural wooden action on the P515. Regarding the number of voices on the P515 - note that you can also access the entire 480 XG voices on the P515 by holding down Function and pressing other. So although they are older sounds there are 520 sounds available on there in total.

Agreed, tried a P515 today and the Bosendoerfer sounded incredible, low notes are more "epic". Playing the beginning of Sibelius' Finlandia sells the piano by itself.

The question for every P515 owner isn't "what could beat it?" - because nothing can in its price range at the moment - but more "when is the replacement coming?". It just shows how right Yamaha got this piano that it hasn't been updated yet, presumably because sales are so strong.

Well Yahama recently brought out their PS500 which many thought might be the successor to the P515, but with just GHS action and non-wooden keys many people think it inferior to the P515 despite being more expensive. Sure the falling lights technology may be of interest to someone learning, but for most intermediate to advanced pianist the superior NWX action on the P515 is going to be way better.

I have a P-515 in the form of an classic upright piano. (the OOSTENDORP DIGITAL CLASSIC ELITE III) A Dutch piano company (Oostendorp) builds these piano's on order. They buy piano cases, digital piano's and speakers and put them together so they look (and sound) like an accoustic piano. The filters and amplifiers are built by themselves and optimized to make it sound incredibly close to a genuine accoustic piano. And I like the action of the P-515. It's way more expensive than an off the shelve P-515, but this looks so much better in a living room. Their idea comes from the fact that customers complained that they want a digital piano but they don't like all the buttons and displays in sight. Then a group of colleagues picked up the idea to start building their own line of piano's based on traditional accoustic piano's and equip them with a digital piano inside. There are no buttons whatsoever on the outside. In order to power it on and control it, you have to open the top lid. there they have hidden the control panel of the P-515.This is not an issue as most of the users will not change instruments or push buttons while playing. They just want to play piano. And then there is still the options to hook up an iPhone or iPad for remote control. Then the case of the piano is used effectively to act as a sound box to make it perfectly sound like a real accoustic piano. You can't hear that the sound is eletronically amplified and that it's in fact a digital piano.

3:36 man I was thinking that through the demo! I rarely dislike the sounds that come out of Yamaha gear but I liked the Casio much more here and every patch sounded ‘newer’? It was actually the other way round, I felt like the Yamaha sounded a bit dated and the great sounding patches of the Casio just made that more prominent. They sounded far more ‘real’ and dynamic in a head to head I think. Magic as always guys ✌🏻

I have owned a P515 for 2.5 years and just bought a PX-S7000 a week ago... The PX-S6000/7000 has heavier keys but I like its sound (PriviaGR HG) more than the P515 (Yamaha grand). I kinda regret getting the 7000 instead of the 6000. The Steinway sampling sounds much more brighter on high pitch than low pitch. It doesn't sound like a good balance to me. Not sure if I can adjust the setting.

The 515 blows it out of the water on action, sounds and the built in audio interface (which for some bizarre reason, Casio STILL hasn't figured out how to do!) - only thing Casio has in its favor here is the portability. The 515 is far too heavy and bulky to be moving around. Not really sure why the new Casios are as $$$ as they are, especially the 5000 which has the non existent user interface from the 1000/1100. I'd buy a 3000 or a 3100 way before I would pay more than double for a 6000/7000

Have you any comprehension of what the 6000 offers over a P515? It literally blows it dead out the water for features and the ability to customise literally every single sound beyond belief with the comprehensive DSP effects across every sample. You really shouldn't make a statement if all you think Casio have on their side is the portability.
@islandtony5009
@islandtony5009 4 месяца назад
@@Tube2097 DSP customization is great if you're into spending tons of time on that so sure that's something the 6000 has over the 515 in addition to portability. "Blowing it dead out of the water for features"? That's a bit strong :) But hey everyone has their own preferences (action and sounds are totally personal). Casio ignoring built in audio interfaces is bizarre but whatever; I wouldn't buy a 5000/6000/7000 but if you have one congrats, DSP sounds awesome and I hope you love it! Have a great day
@Tube2097
@Tube2097 4 месяца назад
@@islandtony5009 For features it really does kill the P515. If you look into just how many things you can do with the Casio you would be surprised at legitimately how extensive and rich the feature set is. When coupled with the extensive tone database, you have an enormous amount of built in capabilities and potential, which those dials on the side also help to really enrich your live playing experience. Considering this keyboard was cheaper than the P515 at the time of release too, and in some cases still is, you really shouldn't ignore what it offers over the P515. If you prefer the P515 for action, speaker quality and general primary tone quality, then that's fine, but for overall value, quality and feature set, I'd personally recommend the Casio.

I think Yamaha will release a replacement for the 515 shortly. I have a DGX-670, and it's a mixed bag. There's a lot to like but 515 owners seem happier. The DGX acoustic piano voices played in tandem with Pianoteq can sound very authentic,; but by themselves without the Pianoteq overlay, they are are rather dull and lifeless. Also the OS of the DGX is very kludgy. I tried the Casio at the store and didn't like the acoustic piano voice at all. Some others in this demo seem to have a lot of personality.

I wouldn't outright say so. Especially if you throw the 7000 up against it with the 3 Premium Grand samples among countless others. They both have wooden key action and good speakers etc, but the Casio has the better functionality with the pitch wheel and other features. The P515 action is too heavy for some, but it has stood the test of time, which says a lot. The Casio has a much better form factor and portability with solid features and quality samples and hardware, so definitely shouldn't be shoved aside.
