So, you’re thinking of moving to Wyoming. Well, Wyoming is a rather large state, so, exactly what area of Wyoming should you move to? If you have watched any of my other videos you may have noticed, I am a bit partial to Casper - but, I’ll admit, Casper isn’t the only city in Wyoming to consider. Let’s compare Casper vs Cheyenne. Let's talk about weather, what the activities are like, median home prices, median income, taxes and all things Wyoming!

When I was shopping towns in Wyoming before moving here, there was absolutely no contest; Casper is way better in nearly every way. Nicer scenery, nicer people, nicer town in general. I actually wouldn't even consider living in Cheyenne now, while Casper is one of the best places I've ever lived. Just one guy's opinion, but Casper is WAY better.

You left out the fact that Cheyenne boasts an excellent library, the Laramie County Library (Awards: 2008 Library of the Year: Laramie County Library System and 2016: One of the 6 Best Children’s Libraries in the United States). The State Archives are in Cheyenne as well.

I lived in both Casper and Cheyenne. Cheyenne's economy is more stable, due to being the center of state government, Union Pacific, and two interstate highways. Casper's economy can be more boom or bust. With access to the University of Wyoming-one hour away-and Denver-two hours away-Cheyenne is less isolated. Cheyenne also has a fantastic library! I did enjoy living in both cities.

I drove through the state and stayed for a night on Cheyenne. I fell in love with the city. The people were friendly across the board, the empty spaces in the state were beautiful, and there is a surprisingly strong metal music scene for anyone who likes that. Great video. Pretty fair analysis! I've lived years in both Cheyenne and Casper: Excess wind was always big for me. Casper is more prone to economic boom/bust cycles (oil town) and has more "flood insurance required" zones (sits in mountain drainage valleys). Due to the Air Force base, State Govt offices, and proximity to Colorado, ... Cheyenne is a very stable economic zone. However, I've had an easier time getting employed in Casper. Wyoming, in general, isn't for everyone and has a distinct social flavors that offends some and pleases others.

What's with the weird walk? Just came back from visiting all the main cities and Casper is ugly and riddled with high crime so it got bumped of our list as well as Gillette. Enter town curb appeal they don't have. And what is it with all the rural homeowners leaving their brooken down cars in front of their house. It makes the whole state look junky. I also surely wouldn't use this woman if I were to buy a home. Anyway, Cheyenne wins because of access to much more desirable Colorado. Lets be honest, the ony reason why Wyoming wins is for taxes. Otherwide we'd choose the other surrounding rocky mountain states.

In the past year, there has been an influx of poor people (mostly unemployed) moving to Cheyenne. Our crime is up because of it. We didn't have violent crime like this before; it was rare. This is not a good place for unestablished young people to move and expect hand-outs from the community, but that's what we're getting. There is also a shortage of acceptable housing here, so whoever is recruiting people to leave the big city for Cheyenne is not doing us any favors.

I grew up in Casper so I can’t speak to Cheyenne. Casper is a great city and was a great place to grow up. You have to know though that the wind is CONSTANT. A day without wind is the exception, not the rule. And the range she gives is correct but remember that makes the average around 40 mph. Going 40 mph in a car doesn’t seem fast but a constant barrage of 40 mph wind can become annoying really quickly. Where you live in town, what direction your home faces, and the amount of wind barriers around your home decide for you whether you have a screen door on your home. You see many homes without screen doors (even the heavy duty metal kind) or just hanging there because the constant wind eats them. If you’re not a winter weather person, Wyoming is NOT for you. Winter is usually always at least 9-10 months. And we’re not talking scenic Christmas movie snow; we’re talking you’ll want a backup generator and a food and water reserve just in case. If my career paid better there I would move back to Casper in a heartbeat. I’m not a fan of wind or snow, but the vibe of the city is great. One note: if you’re young & LGBTQ this is NOT the place for you. I’m sure it’s no surprise that Wyoming is not a great place for LGBTQ people. There is a quiet acceptance, a very 1950s “my uncle John lives with his friend Robert, they both just never found wives” attitude in Casper. Everyone knows what it means but it isn’t spoken about. There are apparently Pride events now but I don’t know much about them as I left in 1992 and there was nothing. I can only imagine in today’s political environment that your safety should be a concern.
