My dad worked on the railroad his entire life. Your video brought back many memories of times when my brother and I got to ride in the engine with my dad on trips. Thanks for the video.

Cass is always an enjoyable ride weather you take the short ride to Whittaker Station or the longer ride to Bald Knob. In the 70's, there was an open car that was in front of the engine. going forward was no problem, but when you backed up on the switchbacks, the crew would bring out a large clear piece of plastic to cover everyone. The plastic kept the soot and small pieces that came out of the smokestack off of you. If you go to Cass even in the summer, take a jacket as it's always cooler at the higher elevations. Just last year I had the enjoyable task of taking my two oldest grandsons to Cass. Watching them learning about the train and why it was there was very enjoyable!

If anyone thought the locomotive seemed odd, that is because it was a Shay type locomotive that uses gears to transfer power to the wheels. It's low speed but has a lot of tractive force so it can pull a lot of weight. That engine probably barely noticed it was pulling cars full of tourists.

Great job on it Scott. Enjoy any time you get with your dad. Would not surprise me if dad is a model railroader.

Great Video! Gotta love it there. I really enjoyed the video and it looks like you have an amazing relationship with your father. This year we recently opened up the Greenbrier line all the way from Cass to Durbin which is a 30 mile trip in total and takes 6 hours. It follows the beautiful Greenbrier for most of the trip as well as the mountains. Come back and give us a visit again someday and ride the Greenbrier Express!

There was a Lot of "Joy In That Journey" I had Fantastic Ice Cream at the General Store.. West Virginia.. Almost Heaven...

If you have never biked the Greenbrier River Trail, it is definitely worth a trip back just for that. Trail is 78 miles and down hill if starting in Cass.

I have heard there is a day each week where they will take your mtn bike up on the train and there is a trail to ride back down.
