What a beauty. You did well to stay calm.I know how excited you must have been.Love all the detailed parts. Yes well worth the wait. Im sure Winnie would be pleased and proud. Thanks for sharing Terry😊
@Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi I like to think that way, and I'm still buying for my hobbies, but the fact of the matter is that I've already exceeded my life expectancy and I worry about burdening my wife with all of my collections.
Great review, had me spellbound. Lots of nice details like gloves etc an the detents in the axels for re gauging, masterpiece! As for the sprung bogies (trucks) and wooden buffer beams, very nice indeed. Looking forward to seeing it run.
Thanks Steve. They really have made improvements. I was told by a fellow at Accucraft that they had people like me writing to ask for gauge adjustable right after the loco was announced. I think it is the second thing I did after signing up for one. Lol
I am so jealous. I had one of these on order, but then had to cancel my order due to having to get some repairs done to my house. I can’t wait to see you steam this beautiful locomotive.
A very large number of coal burning locomotives had Diamond stacks like the one supplied with your Shay, so no need to add a wood load. Great video and beautiful engine!
Hi Nicholas. Since making this video I learned a bunch more, as I mention in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MsfcPM1deXI.htmlsi=hYu0fQfW6-PLI7Zy
Welcome to The Shay Club Terry. The wait was well worth it. I love the Green. It's one Beautiful Geared Locomotive. I'm a fan of the Diamond Stack. The new MTH ones coming out have the Diamond Stack on them. Most of the Shays at CASS have Diamond Stacks and are all Coal Burners. With the Diamond Stack the Black Smoke is Awesome to see. So don't hesitate to use it now and then. I'd love to see a video of it with it on. Enjoy your Christmas Present.
@Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi I am not sure Terry but it may make sense that they did since they were used for hauling Timber. Be plenty of scap wood laying around. I do know the smoke bellows out of those Diamond Stacks. And they are all Coal today. I'll have to try to look that up. But Coal was plentiful too and some Shays were used at Mines.
@Terrys-Steam-and-Cobi Probably both I would say. Some Shays were even Oil Burners. I would say the Shays being used at the Coal Mines definitely burned Coal. Would make more sense. And we know they came with different Stacks coming out of Production. And here in West Virginia I'd say alot of Logging and Mining Operations could not afford to have the Sparks from the wood catch stuff in Fire. I know they invented.those Spark Arrestors but not sure when. They were using Shays back in the very late 1800s and early 1900s. A fire could cause an explosion at a Mine and Burn down Forests and Mills. I think Shay Number 2 at Cass started out as a Wood burner then when Cass purchased it it was an oil and coal burner. I've seen different Stacks on it. They even run different Stacks on it today. No matter what, Shays are the Best Engines Made and my Favorite. We are going back to CASS again in 2024.
You lucky man Terry. Over here in the UK we have had our delivery of Shays put back until the new year 😭 Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and happy steaming.
Thats it, going to order one in "kit" form next month. Great video! At first I was like: "Oh great, another live steam geek", then I was like: "wait, Im a geek!"
@@Terrys-Steam-and-Bricks I was really stuck on the green, but when you talked about the Russian Iron I realized that their "blue" was the Russian Iron version. I may go that route but would really like to see one, or some hi res pics first.
@@LiquorandCheeseburgers have a look at this fellow’s Shay vids. His name is Karl. He had some firing issues with his engine but those are cleared up. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-58ocgeRcXOA.htmlsi=qiaFl46glEiXP0CQ
@@LiquorandCheeseburgers actually, good detailed shots of the Shay with blue boiler here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HrDlUNa3QlQ.htmlsi=OuLHNfYhhatrSSLw
Congratulations on your new Accucraft shay. They can run very well. Keep watch on the valve gear and keep it well oiled. I have a friend who had a old two cylinder Accucraft shay that the valve gear wore so much it wouldn't run. I think their Shay locomotives still use the Ruby running gear. Accucraft is the only manufacture in gauge one making shays. The old Aster shays cost big bucks.
Thanks for the tip! I’ll pay attention to the valve gear. I did oil it along with everything else. But I’ll keep extra mind to it. The Asters also were harder to control I am told. Nice engines though. I have been wanting a shay a long time. This one was possible through a small legacy left to me quite a while ago now.
Nice! Looks like Oakridge Hobbies has them for a fair price too. I buy a lot of trees from them. I could use some more trees, so I’ll grab the Friars too!
You can make a removable wood stack that sits on top of the coal load, to make it easy to switch stacks. The adjustable gauge is awesome. My mom says it’s rude to run a model Shay with the cylinders opposite from where people can see them. I know a guy from Ontario who pronounces burner as “buner” so maybe they spell it that way up there.
Very nice! I haven't been over to Accucraft to see the production models yet, beware of using the sight glass blowdow valve!! I have broken at least 2 site glasses using it
@@Terrys-Steam-and-Bricks he says it's a little stiff yet. And didn't like reverse much. He didn't say anything about a gas leak issue. But did notice a difference using the water bath. Pop valve works fine, hopefully BAGRS has a steamup pretty soon so we can go run it
You are so quirky thank you for letting me know that I’m not alone. And I fully support live steam models over electric! Ich finde Dampfmaschine,so Gaudi!
😊 Danke! Some people have not liked my channel because of the quirkiness. I suppose those are very serious people who take their hobby very seriously. Well, I take my hobby seriously too, but I want to live long, so I like to have some fun. ☺️ And if in the end this extra fun has not caused me to live longer, at least I was happier and met some great people. 👍
