I was just there earlier this month. I originally went to st.Augustine to visit a pirate museum, and the fort was a surprise that made me all the more excited. I dragged my family to check it out while taking as many pictures of angles and parts as I could, and shoving as many souvenirs as I could afford in my bag.

The canon shown in the video are at Fort Matanzas south of the town. A ferry can take you there from Matanzas Beach. Also you’ll want to visit Washington Oaks State Park in the area. At the beach across the street is where the coquina for the fort was mined to build the walls. Bring your camera, it’s beautiful.

The patron saint of artillerymen is Santa Barbara thanks to Spanish artillerymen of the past. The circle with a cross which looks like a cross hair for an optic sight is the cross of Santa Barbara. In Europe during the 1400s and till the late 1700s the Spanish were the best artillerymen of Europe until the French who made better guns. In the Americas the French and British Navies feared the Spanish gunners especially in ports where Spanish forts were protecting them. From Cuba, and Puerto Rico where Spanish is spoken these Spaniards protected these colonies well. All Spanish forts were well protected and had excellent firepower.
