Thank you Tito4re, this is the only casting video I've seen that showed the whole process, wasn't 32 parts, and didn't waste time on pointless tidbits. Thanks for sharing.

Nice job, looks pretty usable! Here's a couple of thoughts, though: Mold the sprue with the part, not after removing it, that way you avoid messing up the mold. I saw a Romanian dude using wedge-shaped sprues to make his pots, so he'd just hammer them off instead of sawing. You could also place the sprue away from the mold altogether, and connect them with a runner. Molding a pouring cup/funnel makes it easier with aiming the pour. Unless that baby powder is actually just talc, there are better materials to use as parting powder. Graphite powder, for example. Don't go throwing and mixing sand on top of the parting powder all willy-nilly, be more careful with the sand layer immediately after the parting powder and you'll get better results. Make yourself a proper crucible holder, you'll end up getting burnt using just those pliers, not to mention it's not really the safest way to hold a crucible full of molten metal. Hope that helps!

Wow, the casting came out really good (at first I was worried that your green sand doesn't have enough clay or it's too dry, but seemed to be good enough). How about trying plaster next time? It can be used to cast all the nonferrous metals that have a melting point below that of iron and it definitely gives you a better surface finish (MUCH less touch-up is needed afterwards). Oh and BTW you don't need that much oil for the fried eggs. Just a light coating of the pan (which barely covers the whole surface) is enough. ;)

@nicks2437
@nicks2437 7 лет назад
+Aleph Null Copper transmits heat well but it corrodes very easily, so it is good for the bottom coating of cookware but not the food contact surface. Also, too much copper in the diet is quite hazardous to health and causes liver and kidney damage. Aluminum is almost as good at transmitting heat as copper is, but it doesn't have the slew of health hazards that ingesting copper does. Aluminum is still quite susceptible to corrosion and pitting though so you wouldn't be able to cook acidic foods in an aluminum skillet. If it went through the process of anodization then it might be okay for acidic foods.

Ok may I give you a little advice about molding? Your method is perfect but the way you press the sand is make it not pressed very good and give you a bad surface on your casting Here's what you should do : Cut a piece of wood about 2 by 2 inches then make one side of wood like a pyramid ( for weight distribution ) after you filled the mold with sand use it instead of that peace of wood you have, simply place the flat side over the sand and hit it with rubber hammer ( coz it suck shocks and distribute weight more evenly) This thing good for 2 reasons First it make the inside of mold welly smooth and second it press it more which make the line between to parts stick better and less aluminum will exist and you'll have better edges . Just don't be afraid of using force, hit it kinda hard but use less force on second mold with that you'll have a perfect flatness between two molds Sry 4 bad English 😅 Love your videos keep it up 😘

that's for iron, not really as much for aluminum. Also, Asian people use a shit ton of oil as well, but I forgot it's cool to hate Americans, lol

Butter would be better, plus you salt/season your eggs while they are cooking or even before they are cooked. And always cooked sunny side up, that's my perfect egg with a bit of hot sauce on the side.

I like the video. hate that you are using it for cooking. It is a health risk using an untreated and unsealed Aluminum surface for cooking. Even more if you cook with acidic foods. As a person that does a lot of casting, I would advise against this. Even just melting the Aluminum can be harmful to your health because of the vapors that the Aluminum makes when melting. I am not saying don't cast Aluminum, just take the proper safety precautions. .

+Jax I agree with you. Cool video but please don't use it for cooking, this is why it''s unusual to find cookware made out of aluminum today unless it's treated.

I apologize for replying to a 7 year old comment, but what steps would be necessary to properly treat a cast aluminum skillet of this sort to make it suitable for cooking?
