Lost wax casting or investment casting is used heavily in the jewelry making business to create beautiful pieces out of precious metals. With castable resins, there is no longer a need to hand carve wax models. Castable resins give more versatility andimmaculate details that are near impossible by hand.

I’m confused how the vacuum works for the metal pouring portion. Does the investment plaster have tiny holes in it? The bottom looked solid, so there’s no large holes, how does the vacuum draw in the molten metal when there is solid investment plaster between the vacuum and the metal?

What the size of rubber sprue and the cylinder flak ? Thanks
@FollowThisDreamer
@FollowThisDreamer 7 лет назад
I melt a small blob of wax into the rubber base and level it so there is no protrusion from the bottom of the rubber cone. Then I attach a short wax sprue like you did, but thinner than the shank of the ring, yours is too thick, and make the height of the sprue as short as possible. This way when you calculate how much silver or gold is needed you will need much less because the weight of the wax is much less. Also, placing the flask into an oven only ten minutes after setting is a good way to explode the investment. Need at least 2 hours. I don't use a burn out cycle table in my castings. I set the oven for 425 F at 1 hour and check periodically so I can dump the wax tray. After 1 hour I go direct to 1340 degrees for 1 hour and then go down to 950 for a half hour and then take the flask out and into the casting chamber and cast. Never had a single problem with this method over hundreds of castings. Cheers. ;)

Hello. Thank you for the advice. We are using a 3D printed resin, so our casting cycles and investment types typically vary from wax models, but many concepts still hold true. Thinner touchpoints and shorter sprues are ideal, but we hope that the examples in our video make it easy to see and understand for beginners who can further explore these types of refinement.

@loadandmakeready1648
@loadandmakeready1648 6 лет назад
You can put many models in a flask. A vacuum table like that can handle flasks up to about 5" diameter and 7" height. You could put dozens of models in the flask if you attach them to the sprue carefully.

Would it be possible to specify if this process can be done with ANY vacuum table, provided theres a correct pomp attached ofcourse, Or does it have to be a table built specifically for this process. Does the table itself require power? Kind regards
@FSL3D
@FSL3D 7 лет назад
The table we're using has a very simple system that's only powered by the vacuum pump, and I imagine that any table put together in a similar way will produce similar results. For safety though, we always recommend going through a vendor with a product rated for this kind of use.
