Drachenfels and Zaragoz were the first Warhammer novels I read. I did enjoy them both but I was only 14 years old when they were released. Maybe 32 years ago.
Great to see this book get some attention. I'm of the other side of the fence in that I LOVED how nasty this got...very Lamentations of the Flame Princess. Hoping it'll get the Cubicle7 rerelease treatment
The way Games Workshop are going at the moment (going back to the good old days), I wouldn't be surprised if they brought out a new version of their RPG.
Well they are indeed coming out with a new version of WFRP! GW has handed the duties off to another company, their name escapes me, but they are indeed working on WFRP 4th edition as we speak.
Castle Drachenfels was the last publication for first edition by Flame publications. The lack of belief in the product is you mention is probably down to this fact. The book itself is not really and adventure but more of an adventure location much akin to Tomb of the liche Lord published for 2nd edition. You are supposed to come up with your own adventure and use the castle as a prop. Carl Sargeant was an excellent writer for WFRP. He is responsible for this book, Power Behind the Throne, Grapes of Wrath, Empire in Flames and Deaths Dark Shadow. The adventure threads provided in the book are there out of a sense of completion - a strong work ethic that permeated the 1st edition releases. The book is weak as you describe it but it is possible for a GM who works the castle into his own adventure campaign to utilize it well. I enjoy your reviews, you should do more WFRP!
Thanks for the review. I'd forgotten about this adventure. We never played it. I remember a friend had it and, on looking through, a mate of mine said it was like a cross between Castle Amber and Ravenloft. Still seeing some of the madness of Castle Amber. I wonder if that had some influence.
Not sure what you say at the very end of this video. You mumble something after the obligatory comment 'be sure to hit the thumbs up and subscribe to this channel'.
