This is reminiscent of a crucial scene from The Mentalist. On that show, the lead actor didn't try to get his partner kicked off the show. That's one reason.

PTSD sucks. My husband carries this. He doesn't smoke or drink or drugs. He accepted this part of himself. He NEVER let this define who he is. He ALWAYS came home. I knew when he came home to me.. finally. He made sure NOTHING followed him home. I miss him.
