An absolutely beautiful movie, a true piece of art!! Hayao Miyazaki, Joe Hisashi, I don't know where you are, but thank you from the bottom of my heart for making my childhood the best
Honestly I think Takahata's films are more down to earth while Miyazaki's seems more like a dreamer to me . The messages in takahata's films are clearer than in miyazaki's movies however as it is more down to earth it strikes us harder when watching the movie. Personnaly I was more touched by Pompoko and his message of the importance of nature and the disaster of human overconsumption than Nausicaa. Why I believe because it's was less dreamy (and I know it's still not that realistic but it was closer to my reality than Nausicaa) This doesn't change the fact that both are great creators and I think it's pointless to try which one's are better.
You’d get no answer. One director’s films are bizarre and the other’s make sense (except Pom Poko, which I love because of how ridiculous it is) but both are amazing
Does anybody feel a kind of emptyness whenever a Ghibli movie ends? Like you are leaving a fantastical world full of wonders and excitment. A world full of rich and colorful characters and places. A world you want to see more.
Sim, sinto isso, os filmes desse Studio são tão marcantes, o autor, o diretor, a produção de todos os filmes estão de parabéns. Os filmes que entram no coração do telespectador, faz ele se sentir em um mundo mágico, onde tudo é possível.
@@izzycurry14 ahh that's awesome! I also grew up on these movies as well. I'm glad that strangers like us across the world can share these amazing stories and feelings together.
I've rewatched it a couple of times, and I think Sheeta and Pazu were prepared to perish with the castle to stop Muska. I don't think they knew what would exactly happen, just that the flying city/weapon would be destroyed. And since it was flying high in the air, they'd either di* in the explosion or fall to their doom. Notice how when Pazu tells Sheeta they'd say the Spell of Destruction together, she tears up and they hug? Yeah, they weren't just choosing nature over greed, they were ready to give their own lives. Laputa and Totoro are both my favorite Ghibli films.
If you would have asked me 15-20 years ago, I would have said Disney>>Ghibli, but now in my mid 20s and having watched every single Ghibli movie, I can definitely agree that it is Ghibli >>>> Disney.
There’s something so depressingly beautiful here. I feel a lurch if sadness in my stomach, but at the same time I feel a kind of warmth in my heart. It’s like a parting of friends you know you won’t see again, but knowing they go on to live happy, love-filled lives.
Exactly. I was a child when I first watched the movie and heard this song. This song evoked the mixture of sadness and hope that a child me at the time couldn't understand.
To anybody reading this, I pray that whatever is hurting you or whatever you are constantly stressing about gets better. May the dark thoughts, the overthinking, and the doubt exit your mind may clarity replace confusion. And may peace and calmness fill your life.

When I was little kid, I had this yearn for adventure. I wished that one night I would be magically whisked away into a fantastical world for an incredible adventure I would never forget. As I grew older, I slowly came to realize that was never possible. Several years later, I finally got around to watching Castle in the Sky. This movie captured that feeling of adventure and wonder that my child self was looking for in such a perfect way. I’ve always been a fan of Ghibli, but this movie really stuck to me. It still remains as my favorite film to this day.
Same! I always thought that maybe one day i could find something magical like a secret place no body would know about or like a castle ib the sky like in the film but now older i know it would nit be possible...everytime i watch a ghibli film with something magical in it it brings out the child in me..its sad that there aren't any places or thing like in the movies.
The secret of beautiful fantasy is its reflection of real-life truths. If the themes and dreams displayed aren't genuine, they do not reach the viewer/reader so successfully. One of the best aspects of fantasy, then, may be grasped with the realization that the things we love in stories are not just "make-believe," designed as an escape from reality-- rather, they are acute and often painfully pure representations of the things we love about our world and our lives, but struggle to comprehend and express.
@@manthishitwack Actually, allow me to correct that, a castle in the sky IS indeed possible! As I like to say, possible, but not plausible. As a matter of fact, the technology needed to make a flying city was around since the mid 1900s! The reason no one every made such a magnificent thing was because of our good old friend, money, of course. After the invention of airplanes and airships, it definitely was possible to make a flying city. An extra large airship with a population of one thousand could certainly be known as a flying city. Otherwise, huge floating platforms large and strong enough to support the weight of an entire city could be levitated into the sky. However, I do realize that it would take, well, MILLIONS of propellers and hundreds of thousands of engines and an insane amount of fuel to keep the castle airborne. Today, almost a century later, making a castle in the sky is still possible, yet not plausible. It would simply cost too much. But perhaps in the future we would find something that could power the engines, like in the movie, the giant aetherium crystal. Alas, that is not yet possible. What is both possible AND plausible right now is a floating city, one that floats in the ocean. I am currently writing a novel about my idea, its title is "A City at Sea." Will publish it on Kindle after I finish writing.
@your friendly neighborhood gamer Well, allow me to correct that, nothing is strictly impossible at all! I am telling you the truth, the world is full of things that science and reality cannot explain. Take ghosts, for example. I guess we'll never know if they are real or not; for some people they are possible, and for others they are impossible. You see, there are people who have been magically whisked away into a fantastical world for an incredible adventure they would never forget. Take abduction by aliens, for example. Some people claim that it has happened to them, while many others do not believe it. Some people have even gone to say that they have somehow traveled into the future or the past! I guess we'll never know the truth about this. Also, I agree, it remains my favorite film to this day!
We don't know each other, but I wish you all the best today, tomorrow, and throughout your life. No matter what happens, know that you matter. Know that people care. You are here because the world needs you.
@centralintelligenceagency87 I have a feeling about Spirited Away, one day in the future Chihiro will eventually pass away of old age and rejoin her spirit friends in the world she grew in, and reunites with Haku.
I was a lonely sad kid. I cried myself to sleep, i cried myself doing my chores - all i could do was cry. Living hurt so much...but i still remember how happy it made me watching Ghibli movies. I wouldn't be here if they hadn't been created. Thank you so much Hayao Miyazaki, for giving us things to hope.
Ghibli movies take me out of misery and even now bring to a different world. I am very thankful too. I hope you are doing better though, but if anything, Miyazaki Hayao movies will always give a warm embrace
Lyrics translation: That horizon The reason why it is shimmering is because somewhere on it, the Earth is hiding you Numerous night lights the reason why I feel them to be so dear and old is because I know with one of them you are there Now let's set out with a piece of bread knife, and lamp, into a bag, all stuffed in Passions my father left with me The look in her eyes my mother gave me The Earth rotates with you on it hiding you your bright eyes admist the twinkling town lights The Earth rotates carrying you on it carrying two of us who shall meet one day Note: I translated as faithfully as I could to the original. I translated mother as "it" since the Earth in Japanese is gender neutral. I felt better to call it "it" rather than "her" as English convention goes.

I remember sitting in my room during the ending credits as a kid, completely entranced, having forgotten all outside world even existed, listening to this and just thinking... looking at that tree.
I remember sitting on the carpet at my dad's place and wathing the entire thing with my 6-years old soul not understanding much, except the emotional side. After 7 years of desperately searching for the movie, I found it. Dad gone it!
@@tampereenmielenvikaisinmoo9811 Congrats on finding it again! I definitely didn't understand much but the emotional side when i was young. Your dad is a wonderful person for showing this to you. My mom tells me I cried watching this. I believe these movies taught me empathy because I'm not very naturally empathetic.
the Ghibli films are absolutely legendary. the art, the soundtracks, the voices, the storylines, the morals, the characters. everything. this song is maybe my favorite song among them all I'm so happy a high quality audio was uploaded!! made my night! ♥
Especially in this film, there are a lot of details that to this day i have not unraveled. I wonder i f you know the meaning of ango, the title of the pirate dola's code book
This movie was on the TV one night, when I was home alone and I watched it. Well, I tried. I fell asleep because I had never been awake that long into the night but I semi-woke up during this ending song and its stuck with me every since. It took me nearly a full decade of growing up to find this movie again and with it this soundtrack. Thanks, Studio Ghibli.
to this day, i wish i could go on an epic adventure, run away, find someone to die for and find undiscovered worlds. these movies to me are endless. I am nothing but grateful for them.
I remember being a little girl, sitting cross-legged in front of the TV when the credits rolled. This song was so beautiful that it had a rare affect on me that most songs DIDN'T have when I was little, and I cried a little bit just listening to it. What an amazing film. Thank you Hayao Mizaki, Joe Hisashi, Azumi Inoue, and Studio Ghibli!
the plot may be simplistic but the execution is damn near perfect. it has such a great atmosphere and charm to it for me. everything hits hard. that's why i used to watch it over n over again when i was a kid
Kimberly Smith Oh yes, the same thing with Spirited Away. Another thing I love in the Hayao Miyazaki movies - the heroes of them are more often girls! When I was little, there didn’t seem to be enough stories with girl heroes that were not marketing grabs. Yet, I could always find a way to relate to one of Mr. Miyazaki’s girl heroes, be it Chihiro or Sheeta, Nausicaä or Kiki.

People always like to talk about Howl's Moving Castle or Spirited Away when it comes to Ghibli works. But everyone sleeps on this movie. It is my favorite and it has every damn reason to be
This might sound weird but I'm really thankful for some reason. I'm thankful that Studio Ghibli exists, that the internet exists, that RU-vid exists, and that people exist that are uploading these videos!

The lyrics of this song are generally attributed to Hayao Miyazaki, but Isao Takahata (director of "Grave of the Fireflies") supervised and rewrote some of the lyrics. In other words, this song is a joint work by Hayao Miyazaki, Isao Takahata, and Joe Hisaishi.
Is it just me, but I really feel all the feelings from ghibli's anime's songs. It feels like Joe Hisashi really poured all his feelings into the songs. I feel the overflowing feel from every ghibli's song. I don't know a song could tremble a heart by its mysterious feelings.
This makes me think of the endings of Nintendo games, where they do a montage of all the places you've been, all the people you've helped. Like they're saying goodbye but you'll be welcomed back any time, every time.
This song is so hauntingly nostalgic it brings me to tears. I remember my sisters and I begging my mom to let the song play through it's entirety when I was very little. God, ghibli movies are amazing.
An ancient Island lifted into the sky as a dream of it's inhabitants, a massive weapon, that lead to it's own downfall and was in the end consumed by nature.
This is the first official Studio Ghibli movie. I just watched it yesterday. I can't put it into words how much I admire Studio Ghibli for producing such masterpieces. Those movies will always have a special place in my heart and help me in dark times...
I have to write it somewhere. I started my Bachelor in mechanical engineering back in Summer 2019 and i got my final result for the last exam which i failed 2 times last year. I studied like a madman and felt like human garbage for taking so long. I lost so much in these 4 years...my pride, my hair, hope, confidence but i perservered nonetheless. It was so effing hard and i wish i never started this journey but i passed. I PASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEED. Never in my life was i so excited. I even screamed just by seeing the result. I never did anything of that sorts. I am so glad and I thank God for everything that is good and green on this earth. I hope that every single human is as blessed as i am in this very moment!!!!!!!!
The greatness and perfectness of 1:41 made tears coming down from my eyes so naturally, i don’t know how should i describe this feeling But i’m sure i feel so satisfied right now this masterpiece makes me feel alive, makes me feel something different I absolutely love this song and will listen to it a lot more and never forget it Writing this at 2:45 am alone in my dark room
@@bigorna4875 LOL he didn't! The film he is working on is "How Do You Live?" He says "I will retire. I'm done making films" literally EVERY TIME after his film released.lol
I watched Castle in the Sky in theaters today and is my first Studio Ghibli film I have watched, it is nothing but a piece of art. I wish there was films like this now a days. Update: Ok after like 4 years later this dated as fuck. I wrote this when I was 13. But I still cry at the opening theme and it's still overall a special movie for me.
This one wasn’t the first one I’ve seen but it definitely is my favorite as well. Nothing else came close in how it made me felt emotionally, not howl’s, not Totoro, not spirited away. It’s baffling honestly
This song is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard in my entire life and this movie is one of the movies and things I have ever seen/experienced ever in my entire life.
When i watch this movies, i feel like doing the adventures along with them, and when the story end, it feels like my adventures is also end. Everytime i hear this song, i feel like i've lost something i cant describe that makes me want to cry
When I was little, around 8 years old my father would always watch movies with me on the weekends, as back then TV would actually show worth to watch movies on a weekly basis. One Saturday he only told me that the trailer he saw earlier during ad break looked promising and that I would surely like it. Until then I had only known Western animation, I didn't know a thing about Japan but when I watched that movie with my dad I absolutely fell in love with the pure art that is studio ghibli. I would regularly watch the movie when I noticed it was up on TV until I got the DVD for Christmas. I hadn't seen it for a while and watched it again as an adult and I felt right at home again. By now I have seen almost all the other ghibli films and I adore every single one of them, but CitS will forever remain my favourite.
Just watched Castle in the Sky for the first time. I've already seen some other Ghibli movies but this one is easily my favorite. I wish I had seen this when I was a kid, my younger self would've been even more awe inspired than I am now
I cannot describe how special this movie and this theme are to me. It feels like they were made by a god and I literally feel like that while I don't feel the same about anything else.
Castle In The Sky and Princess Mononoke have to be my favourite Ghibli films ever. The music these two films harbour is so beautifully haunting and nostalgic with a hint of sadness. The stories, characters, everything. Well..... I mean nearly all Ghibli films are like this. That's what makes them all so special. Thank you for letting me witness your tales from a young age Ghibli.
just finished this movie feels like a mix of Future Boy Conan, One Piece, Demon Slayer, Vin Land Saga, Attack on Titan a perfect masterpiece that's about 40 years old with insane production quality and a good story! A far away land that has insane power is a concept we live in this world. we chase greed, but never find satisfaction until we convince ourselves true wealth is not with materials or this far away land. so far this movie is my favorite animated Japanese film! so good
man, i never get tired of listening to this music.. it's just it feels different than any other music, i'm not saying other music is bad but there's just something magical on every Studio Ghibli music overall.
My life fell apart, I stand in front of my own ruins, I'm only a shadow of myself. Things seem empty, lonely, sad and desperate. But when I come by studio ghiblis works I see a small glimpse of light shine inside me again. My life used to be so much simpler, I had not much, but all I needed in the end was to watch serene and meaningful animated movies from Japans great studios that still DRAW their works, and I was satisfied. I look back with nostalgia on these days.
I remember seeing this movie for the first time when I was about 13 years old, and I freaking loved it. Now I’m almost 26, and I just watched it for the first time since then, and I literally cried from the nostalgia. It’s just that good.
Beautiful thing is that Japanese put pieces of their own tradition in every artistic creation they made. I really appreciate Japanese way of life, creativity, thinking and doing...
This is magic. And the movie is just unforgettable. Thanks to Mr. Hisaishi for composing this piece of art and to you for uploading it in such a great quality.
staring at the tree is like one of those magic pictures, my brain is always making me think it bobs up and down but its just a still picture whenever i double check the roots. Same goes for the clouds.. i think i've just seen this movie too many times that when i see a frame of the ending my brain tries to animate the rest
I can not describe what the Ghibli Animes means to me. It’s just perfection on its highest level. The films really changed my life as a kid. I remember it very well, at the age of 6, when my sister, brother and my mother watch that on our film evening at Friday (SuperRTL - Germany). Back then and even today, this film creates a strange feeling of nostalgia. It really hurts to see it in a kind way. I think it was the first time ever I felt that. I can not really describe it. I personally think it’s a masterpiece of art and I really hope that films like these will be produced as long people live. That’s the reason why I really want to visit Japan one day, maybe move to it. I REALLY hope, everyone who reads this, is having a good life. Do was makes you happy, you only Love one time in this world Greetings from Germany
First SG movie I ever watched almost 20 years ago! Can you believe I was just flipping channels and happened to catch the Studio Ghibli marathon that night? A blessing!
This is the last song I will hear in 2022 Thank you Mr. Hayao Miyazaki for this wonderfully magical movie and Studio Ghibli for making my life brighter this year
Can’t even lie, it’s been over 10 years since I watched it. I ended up showing my gf it yesterday, and I actually teared up and started to cry as soon as I heard the first soundtrack. It was, quite literally, the first movie I ever remember watching. I was an ‘05 kid, so I’m kinda “young” in comparison to the movie. We had it on one of the original eng-dub VHS tapes, same with KiKi’s Delivery Service. Both were pristine, and the player we had was kind of nearing its end. So I wasn’t able to watch it much on them, but I still have the tapes. It’s one of those movies, where I wish they made just a little bit of a longer animation of Pazu and Sheeta after they made it up north. Just to see what would happen in their lives. A happy life, learning all about how Sheeta made it so far before she was captured? Would they settle down up in the mountains, or returned to where Pazu lived? Would they grow up and live a happy life together, married with kids? Or travel the world together, and learn more about the floating islands history? Or become famous for such an amazing adventure they’d have accomplished, and be hailed as legends? Who knows. That’s for our minds to imagine :)
