Weirdly enough, as an American who never grew up in the 8 or 16 bit era, the only version of Castle of Illusion I’ve played is actually the Master System version, not even on Game Gear

had to play it at 75% speed as australia had the PAL (50hz) mode

this was the first SMS game I had after the built-in Alex Kidd. A good platformer, some of the levels were difficult in places (to an eight-year-old me) but I liked that it had a practice mode: very easy versions of the first three levels that give you the gems at the end without a boss fight. There is a simplified ending where the witch releases Minnie in exchange for the three gems. The normal levels are longer and have some tough bosses with the witch as the final boss; they will take practice but are worth persevering with as the ending is good and has good music throughout which we have here.
