This is the second of two videos showing a complete climb up Castle Rock outside Leavenworth, WA. In the previous video we climbed Lower Castle Rock via "The Fault" 5.6 and "Catapult" 5.8. In this video we have moved accross Loggers Ledge to clim b "Canary" 5.8 to the top of Upper Castle Rock. This is one of the best climbs in Washington at this grade!

First pitch: Video may not represent things perfectly, but from what I could gather, I grimaced a bit: Careful with the pro: cams do not go straight-in, but rather should be aligned with expected fall direction. And when exiting a roof to the right, putting your (last) piece in the left corner looks sketchy for a fall (as well as making the move more strenuous)! In any case, smooth climbing; I remember this as being a stout 5.8.

Yeah. My buddy Steve led that pitch. But we could see decent holds that only took a couple moves to get up to the pro. Still might take your ankle out if you fell 😬
