I had an interesting sequence to this game. I played it first when I was little. I got to Stage 4, but I didn't grasp the concept of ducking under the low ceiling and kept dying. When I was a teenager, I found a PlayChoice10 machine with Castlevania at the RV park we were staying at and got to Stage 5 spending five bucks on it. And finally, I beat it in college on a dorm mate's NES with a quick help from a guide on the net because I got frustrated with Dracula and didn't want to waste anymore time. I was the hero of the night. ;) Great video! Always fun to revisit Castlevania
Great walkthrough! I really appreciate how these aren't just pixel-perfect runs but show how to deal with some potentially controller-tossing setbacks.
Oh man it was a trip for me as well. I remember being traumatized by the grim reaper level and by him specifically without the holy water. We got the best of him! Thanks!
One trick for the first level before going thru the first door at the end of the hallway: use the holy water on zombies. The zombies at the end of the hallway auto-spawn three at a time. If you take out all three with one holy water, you get a bonus 3000 points. Spend a little time doing this, and you can quickly bank an extra two or three lives.
I knew it was only a matter of time before you tackled this xD excellent walkthrough as usual!! Great execution on the secret at the beginning of the first level, I'm about 50/50 on that secret lol and I love how you show people how to overcome those rage inducing setbacks you get as a result of dying in this game (which I've done a LOT of over the years xD) And it definitely did seem longer to me as well as a kid but I can easily get through this game in less than 30 minutes now which still seems wild to me. Also pro tip to all of the newcomers who may be watching this video: Holy Water is your best friend in this game. Its hit stun is INSANE on both normal enemies and bosses because it's either a one-hit kill or it'll freeze them and it also stops those pesky bone pillars from firing fire balls at you as well as allowing you to walk straight through them if you're close enough to them. I normally like to keep a hold of the Holy Water from level 2 onwards but as Nate just expertly showed y'all, you don't have to do that if you don't want to, its all up to how you wanna play it. Have fun on the hunt my fellow Belmonts!!
@@retronate no problem!! Your Bionic Commando walkthrough is what I'm using as a reference to get through that game cause I saw you having fun with it and making it look like a cakewalk so it made me wanna play it lol Keep up the good work man 🤘🦇
My strategy is simple, get the holy water, farm for the triple shot, and stay alive. If i die, I'll get a game over and repeat the steps. If i die during Dracula fight, count candles with boomerang and grab the holy water and triple shot at same time
Oh really glad it helped! Very tough but can rely pretty heavily on holy water in the back half. It’s all about getting to stage 18! Then you can spam runs at Dracula.
I've played this game growing up yes, but I recently beat Dracula on the Famicom Disk System version (Akumajō Dracula/悪魔城ドラキュラ) which has a save feature… which allowed me to save my progress even at Dracula's Keep (Stage 18)!! 😉😉 And I don't know anyone who likes the knife and the blue cross things are roseries
I appreciate very deeply how you keep me honest with the names of these items. These videos have gotta make you wanna pull your hair out with how I butcher them.
@@retronate Na I don't mind it, I only want to educate not reprimand… after all everyone who doesn't read a game manual or anything will not know, I just try to inform, you do with the information as you will 😉😉
