"I'm going to live." So much emotion in just those four words. Massive credit to Isaac's VA, as well as the writers who wrote his dialogue. It's absolutely phenomenal.

Isaac is the absolute g.o.a.t of this series. If there was ever a good way to rewrite a character. Isaac is how you do it. Compared to his game counterparts, this is so good that is makes a grown man cry.

1:08-1:11 This night creature is Abel, Isaac's strongest Innocent Devil in Curse of Darkness. He's shown with Isaac in a couple of cut scenes, and fights alongside him in both boss fights. Carmilla's red sword, and the massive amount of blood she spilled with it, could be a reference to the Muramasa Sword, from Symphony of the Night. The sword starts off of very weak but grows stronger as it feeds on the blood of its wielder's victims. With enough blood (and a lot of patience) it can become the strongest weapon in the game; but it obviously didn't do Carmilla much good, in the long run. 9:07 This close up of Carmilla, is a reference to her original appearance in Castlevania II: Simon's Quest. In that game, she was a giant mask that floated around the room while shedding "Bloody Tears".

1. From here until the end, the season grabs you and doesn't let go. Its a *wild ride* 2. I appreciate that: A) The entire storyline with Isaac , Hector and Carmilla was its own thing. The main trio basically never interacts with them and it is essentially its own plot completely separate from everything else. And while I was disappointed at first, it does let the 2 storylines breathe by not intersecting. B) Isaac made full use of his army while fighting Carmilla, who put up one hell of a fight. Its one of the rare times I've seen in fiction where we see a summoner/conjurer type of magic user make *full use* of the fact that they have a *literal army* to do half the fighting for them. And then at the end, instead of seeking revenge or trying to help resurrect Dracula, he makes peace and decides to build something new. Its a fitting conclusion to his character arc The only thing that bugs me though is that Hector really didn't get to do much in this show. Hell, we never even see him fight. Which is a shame because he's kind of a badarse in his own right.

Carmilla's death was so, so satisfying. Someone so arrogant and narcissistic would never commit suicide unless they had no other option, so her going out that way really just means her defeat was total. She had no other strategies, no means of escape, and no backup plan. What makes it even better for me is that this wasn't some grand strategic battle or anything like that. After all of Carmilla's posturing and scheming and strategizing, she lost to simple attrition.
@noahrobin1941
@noahrobin1941 6 месяцев назад
Yep. Plans/strategizing are not her forté; she’s all ambition and charisma wrapped up in, I think, a damaged personality and poor impulse control. She depends on people in her thrall to know what they’re doing to actually accomplish anything. She’s something like Elon Musk in that regard. :)

That's not really how winning or losing works. In order to win at something you actually need to complete the goal you want to win. Isac didn't do that and neither did Camilla. There was no winner here, Carmilla wasn't ever gonna give him or anyone the satisfaction of killing her and suicide was always gonna be an option in dire circumstance. That's entirely in her character. If anything I'd love to know what that night creature was made of because they didn't escape that tower when it entirely exploded.

I don't recall if it's ever clearly stated, but Issac's dagger can cut through magic. It's why he was able to use it to break out the wizards attempt at mind controlling, and why he can use it to move the bars of Hectors prison. I suspect that Hector CAN'T cut off his finger, but since Issac's dagger cuts through magic, it can.
@darknessunknown4384
@darknessunknown4384 6 месяцев назад
And so Isaac has his long awaited confrontation with Hector, but Isaac chose to spare his old friend and instead confronts the true evil. This is a similar narrative to what happened in Hector's arc, in Curse of Darkness. After their final confrontation, Hector almost killed Isaac in his rage but chose to spare him. The difference however, is that Hector spared him because he realized he was dangerously close to succumbing to Dracula's Curse; and murdering Isaac would've been the final step to becoming just like him. Remembering Julia (who I mentioned a few times in previous episodes) and her words of warning, Hector stopped himself and went on to face Dracula. As for Isaac... it's still a little too soon to go into details, but let's just say it didn't end well for him.

1:25 the creators of Netflix Castlevania confirmed that this Night Creature is in fact Godbrand (he has his distinctive red hair and goatee) which makes its death at Carmilla’s hands quite humorous because as a Vampire Godbrand thought he really had a shot with Carmilla, when in reality he didn’t. Now as a Night Creature with memories of his combat skills as a Vampire Viking, he is outclassed by Carmilla’s own battle talents, again proving he was never in her league to begin with.
@EmptyBrewsky

That's not even possible because Isaac reduced Godbrand to ashes. You even see him pouring his ashes into the wind at the end of the episode he dies in.

@@EmptyBrewsky I see your point but Devil Forgemasters only need bodies to create night creatures. Godbrands soul still goes to Hell though as Isaac’s knife doesn’t destroy the soul, only the body. Plus Isaac and Hector both explain how Forgemasters draw the souls of the dead into new bodies that are then twisted into new monsterous forms. It’s not too far fetched to imagine one of the souls being sucked up from Hell as part of Isaac’s army is Godbrands.
@Ndndndndndnh
@Ndndndndndnh 4 месяца назад
@@EmptyBrewskyIt's pretty much shown that a night creature is just a soul pulled from hell and thrown into a mutated corpse. It could absolutely be Godbrand.

The fight between Isaac and Carmilla is basically and amalgamation of Hector's final battle with Isaac and his battle with Dracula, in Curse of Darkness. And with this battle over, Isaac is free to pursue a peaceful life; a much better fate compared to what happens to him in the game.

I caught a bit of imagery on this rewatch that I’d not noticed before: @4:04, when Hector hands Isaac the talisman, the orientation changes: it changes from an inverted pentacle (generally associated with evil/satan) to a regular pentacle (generally associated with positive magic). Hector had still been loyal to Dracula up until now (“evil”), whilst Isaac has moved beyond it, so one could argue the overall effect of talisman changes when it’s handed over. Similarly, when Isaac places his intent on it, it’s very much in the upright position; the goal of the caster is positive (stopping Carmilla). Couple of disclaimers: I’m not remotely a scholar of these things, I’m just an storehouse of random facts; there may be subtleties I’ve missed. Second, the “upside down = evil” interpretation of the pentagram is, as I understand it, very much a more modern one; 19c and later. So, the imagery may be more for our eyes than a plot point.

I love this episode. I do however always wonder one thing when watching it. If Lenore truly wanted to escape the cage Hector trapped her in, what was stopping her from turning into mist like we saw her do in season 3 and slipping through the bars? It's not a solid wall, as we see Isaac stepping through them using his knife. It's not as if anyone there could stop her in that form. It took Sypha freezing the other vampire with a similar ability to kill her.

CANON DIVERGENCE: From this point forward, the story swerves away from the canon timeline. Originally, Isaac chose hatred over peace, vowing to find a way to resurrect Dracula. Hector, understanding that his Devil Forging only brings suffering, gives up his power and seals it away at this point. Isaac corners Hector and, without the ability to call on Night Creatures, is incapacitated. Isaac then kills Lenore and disappears. Hector spend the next few years hunting him down.

Isaac’s easily one if the best characters in the Castlevania show, a fact made all the more impressive when you consider how vastly different he was handled in the Curse of Darkness video game from which he originates. This is a man who wound up somewhere drastically different from where he or we would have guessed 2 seasons ago, and it’s so satisfying because you see each step he takes to get here. One detail I particularly love is when he confirms his intent to kill Carmilla. Even if the choice feels fairly obvious after how much effort he put into getting this far, Isaac still takes his time answering, mulls it over and weighs his decision. Wanting to end Carmilla is no longer enough motivation in itself, Isaac takes the time to articulate why he views the deed as necessary. He wishes to rebuild the world as to explore and nurture his new found senses of morality and freedom to the fullest, she wishes to squeeze the world as tightly as possible so its lack of morality can never strip her if her freedom ever again. Their respective ambitions are irreconcilably incompatible, yet still he weighs the choice for violence as though there were another way. Isaac doesn’t simply value his freedom to choose, he appreciates it in all of it’s magnitude. If he intends to be the hand that will shape this world, then every choice matters.

I think Hector being able to do all that stuff and not suffer any consequence from the ring was because in his mind he was doing it to help his girlfriend sort of the same mindset that led him to betray Dracula.

@@delfinangel96Lenore literally seduced Hector and cast a slave spell on him without his knowledge. Then treated him like a pet sex slave untill Carmilla's suicide. She may not be as evil as Carmilla but that's still some pretty sinister shit. Plus she doesn't really redeem herself at all for that if anything it's only brought up like once or twice and she simply tries to justify everything herself. I don't think she should of died but Hector definitely had more reason to hate her than anything else really. Considering Carmilla treats him similarly the only difference is the lack of attraction.
