Oh man!!! As soon as I pressed play on this video I had flashbacks of that blue glassy screen where you enter your initials to start a new game. And Dance Of Illusions, I can hear Dracula's smug laugh every time he goes invisible to launch more fireballs Richter's way... killer playing, shcala' it really brought me back!
AHH THANK YOU JOSH that means a lot!!! ❤️❤️❤️ LMAO i love that smug MUHAHAHAHA lollll omg people can say what they want about that VA work but Dracula KILLED IT, it was just so perfectly overacted lmao. Also loved Death's laugh and VA as well when he goes "Ahhhhhh Alucard. What is your business here?" And the librarian!! WHY DID THEY REDUB IT LMAO
Man, your work is consistently jaw-dropping! Your deep understanding of the instrument is really shown off by the variety of cool effects you put into your arrangements, and your playing has so much power and elegance in turn - I really loved how you weave a story out of these tracks! Hope you and the fam have a great Halloween :)
aww Peter!!!! That means so much coming from you, always!! Thank you!!! ❤️❤️❤️ I hope you and yours had a great one too--dunno if your little one is old enough to go door to door but if he did, I hope he got a staggering candy haul lol!!!!
I don't know why I thought the title was the name of just one song LOL. I was thinking "thats a longass title" 😅 I haven't played castlevania but I popped in to listen and the music sounds interesting and really nice, good work :) btw, I've been loving the videos recently where you team up with a bunch of other artists. the agniratha cover was beautiful ❤
aww thank you so much for listening!!! Castlevania does have fantastic music and definitely the games are worth playing if you like 2D platforming and/or action/adventure with some light RPG elements. And vampire killing haha. Thank you for the kind words on agniratha!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ those collabs are an insane amount of work but always worth it in the end haha ❤️

This is great. Only played CV1 and v CV4 but I have been enjoying the soundtracks and now I can hear it on piano, Very nice, don't stop.
ahhhh you're amazing! I have always loved the one-two punch of "Requiem" (Rondo) and "Prayer" (SotN). Together they form this incredible, blasphemous implication that Dracula is Antichrist (those folks aren't singing the Kyrie -- "Lord, have mercy" -- to a Christian God, haha) and I think it's fantastic that they appropriate the Catholic liturgy so well.
AHHH RYAN THANK YOU!!! ❤️❤️❤️ YES that's yet another thing I love about Castlevania, how they juxtapose the sacred and the profane--like how is there a chapel in Dracula's castle in SOTN? With a confessional? Certainly God is not being worshipped there, and it only elevates the feeling of extreme evil, as you mentioned with the Kyrie in Rondo's Requiem. Interestingly, I tried looking up the Latin text for Prayer and nobody really seems to be sure--there's some conjecture about it being from liturgy as well, like a Greek term for "May your ascension into heaven be blissful", but that doesn't quite add up to "largo" which means abundant in Latin. Any thoughts on this?
I think that Yamane copied the general vibe from "Requiem" but not the lyric specificity of Tomoko Sano's clearer piece from Rondo. I've no idea of Yamane's background re: religious education, but Bach (on whom her MA work focused) wouldn't have worshipped in Latin; studying his works would get you to German Protestant church practice instead, which was less invested in worship-as-ritual (though to what specific degree that holds true from 1685-1750 relative to, say, present-day Lutheran practice, I couldn't say). I think the "May your ascension into heaven be blissful" translation is a stretch at best, and not reliable. The best I can speculate in an attempt to tie this to the worship service is that this is part of the "proper," or the rotating series of weekly readings, rather than the "ordinary," or the liturgy to be performed at every Mass (like the Kyrie, which survives in general weekly practice to the present day). My kingdom for a full-on "Gloria" follow-up to the "Kyrie," though!
@@rtbardic Ryan I have to say your reply made my morning and I love it so much. THANK YOU!!!!!!! 😍 so on my end, interestingly, even though Yamane was heavily influenced by Bach, SOTN's Prayer in particular always recalled to me Palestrina rather than Bach, because it of its homophonic grounding, which was why I was thinking the lyrics were in Latin as he served in the Roman Catholic church. Love your speculation regarding the text being derived from the proper of the mass, though everything regarding the Prayer lyrics being derived from any sort of liturgy is just incredibly suspect--I mean is it even Latin to begin with?? lol! The best we can make out is "largo", which in Latin would be "largus", meaning the text is in Italian?? Further internet speculation yields "auri largo" with some folks claiming the Virgin Mary is invoked in the second verse, which would translate to "gold abundance" which already makes no sense, and how Mary would even fit into that makes even less sense lol. However. a funny tinfoil hat theory that occurred to me upon discovering that, is--and bear with me on this hahaha--given that Jesus famously preached one cannot serve both God and Mammon (money, gold) in his Sermon on the Mount, the invocation in Prayer of gold ("auri") as the antithesis of God would tie in quite nicely with your idea of a full-on blasphemous Castlevania Mass AHAHAHA, something I would also LOVE to see lol!!!! Bring on the Gloria, the Credo, the Sanctus and Agnus Dei LOL!!
our fair lady of the piano delivers yet another spectacular performance, a very well put together and well played medley for one of the best games with one of the best soundtracks ever made!
I had the volume way up at the beginning (there was jackhammering going on outside--landscaping work), and then the first chord of Metamorphosis came in at 1:12, and I admit...I ducked for cover as a pure reflex lol. Nice work.
One night I decided to listen to her covers because I was into listening them again, but I was very tired, I ended up faling asleep at one of her castlevania covers and woke up with this very same chord 😂
Amazing ! Clean sound even in difficult parts, so good. Castlevania games are in my top childhood games, especially because of the ost. Thanks for this!
ahhh thanks so much, that means a lot from a fellow Castlevania fan!! ❤️ the NES Castlevanias were one of the very first games I ever played so the series is very special to me, plus the music is just baller ❤️❤️❤️
This is soooo good! I always loved Prayer, such a cool little reference to Requiem from Rondo of Blood (and later Circle of the Moon). How often do you hear a Latin choir for a save menu theme?? I actually had to look up where Metamorphosis played-- didn't remember hearing that one! And Prologue is such a banger for a tiny little theme that plays once, in one scene, for like 20 seconds! Michiru Yamane was so extra with this game, lol. Her later Castlevania work is good, but to me, this was her magnum opus for sure. Her first title was her best. And then Dance of Illusions is one of the best songs in the game, even though it's not much changed from the Rondo of Blood version (which probably 99% of players had not heard before playing SOTN, lol). It's such a great Dracula theme, so elegant and regal and yet evil-- no wonder Konami's used it a whopping six times after SOTN! SOTN has my favorite rendition, though, and your arrangement is awesome! Agree with you wholeheartedly on the voice work for the PSP Dracula X Chronicles-- I can't believe they redid it! It was so iconic, even if it was overacted. The opening dialogue between Richter and Dracula is probably the most famous voiced dialogue in video game history-- and they changed it!! Crazy. I always loved this dive into the localization of that scene: legendsoflocalization.com/lets-investigate-a-miserable-pile-of-secrets/
ooooo thank you for that link, that looks like a very interesting read and I'd LOVE to know the story behind the OG English dub ahahaha--for years I just chalked it up to lower standards in the 90s for VA work, I mean the field was still in its infancy in both games and anime. But I'm glad you agree ahaha, they shouldn't have touched it!! LOL! It's firmly in the so-bad-it's-good camp!!! It was perfect! Totally agree Yamane went hard when she didn't have to and we love her for it lol. I'm glad we're also on the same page that SOTN was her finest work--I mean her other Castlevania OSTs are good but not on this level. Lament of Innocence would probably take second place after SOTN in terms of the OST, Portrait and Aria were very good but not like mindblowingly awesome on every single track the way SOTN is. And I gotta say the Bloodstained OST didn't stick with me, but perhaps I need to replay it again. Thanks for bringing up the similarities between Requiem from Rondo/CotM and Prayer--that didn't even occur to me for some reason! Too bad she didn't employ women's choir singing liturgy in more of her other Castlevania OSTs, it's such a great juxtaposition of the sacred and the profane lol. Thanks so much for your insightful comments and the kind words!!!
@@purpleschala oh I thought I replied to this already but I guess it didn't go through! anyways, if you check that link, I left a comment many years ago-- I found where Yamane had an interview with 1UP and she gave some details on the English voice dub and how it came to be-- it's super interesting stuff!
SO FREAKING GOOD!!! I love your annual Halloween-Castlevania upload! This was an amazing arrangement! Also, I love all of your descriptions; they're half the fun of your uploads! Lol. Also, you can't hate on "I Am The Wind," it's smooth jazz bliss! That should be a song you arrange for your piano, hahaha. HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!!!
Aww thanks so much man!!!! AND I DON'T HATE I AM THE WIND LMAO it's growing on me I swear!!!!! Also--gotta say this. it's not so much that it's a bad song--because it's really not and I do love me some smooth jazz--but it's just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I mean, you had 20+ hours of Yamane's wildly brilliant, eclectic OST and all this bloodthirsty Dracula business ending in patricide and then you get this romantic pop song in English with lyrics having nothing to do with anything. I mean, it's just really incongruous lol
@@purpleschala Hahaha no you're totally right in that hard tonal shift. It's such a stark contrast to the rest of the game and a definite "wtf" moment. But maybe, the real Symphony of the Night was the Wind we all were all along. 🤣🤣
I'm always amazed at how well Castlevania music lends itself for piano arrangements. This was hauntingly beautiful, as it should have been. The "Dance of Illusions" piece in particular was absolutely excellent, I could hear it in a loop all day long - but then I would miss how smoothly each part of the medley blends into one another. You should get your Castlevania stuff into an album someday.
ahhh thank you so much! ❤️❤️ yeah a lot of Castlevania adapts SO WELL for piano since Yamane was classically trained and heavily influenced by Bach, making her a musician after my own heart haha. In fact I'm working on one from Aria and can't wait to see what you think of it! 😀
Thank YOU for listening, and for the kind words!!! ❤️❤️ unfortunately didn’t get as many trick or treaters as we normally do but it was still a cozy night in! :)
Happy Halloween to you and your family. Amazing job! No lie, when I saw the word medley in the title, it sent some flashbacks of the time I listen to Verdegrand's awesome Castlevania medley.
''Death in the dream world will set your soul wandering for eternity demon'' It's a previlege to listen to your arrangement, thank you purpleschala! ;)
Oh hey, my favorite game of all time. The final form of Dracula in that intro blew me away as a kid, with the music being a big part of it. You captured the epic feel. Long shot, but I play Wandering Ghosts on guitar all the time. Up for a groovy collab?
ahhh thank you so much!!! I admit when I first played SOTN that Dracula fight was thrilling yet overwhelming and I was paralyzed in awe and kept getting wasted, hence how I know Maria comes in clutch lmaoooooooo!! That's awesome you play Wandering Ghosts! Such a great guitar track!!!! unfortunately I've got too much on my plate for collabs atm, but if you ever cover it I'd love to hear it! Thanks for asking!!!!! ❤️
you finally came back to the one i love XD i didn't like FF16 to be honest.. too serious. So i didn't play it, but always glad to listen to this ^ ^ or any ff15 XD
oh yeah SOTN is 1000000x better than FFXVI to me, any day hahaha. That game sadly ended up being a massive disappointment to me by the end, so you won't be seeing any more covers from me hahaha
@@purpleschala wait REALLY?! XD was i able to see so far from just the trailers and a few game play videos? ahahah ok amazing.. Shala.. i have a request if you ever fel like :) I don't know if you ever played a game, called Ragnarok Online. Its a very old game, we're talking about 2000 , its an amazing game and it has AMAZING sound tracks.. Try to give a listen to "payo theme voice" its in korean. and of course the game version is only piano but its soooo good. im sure you will love it. And it would be amazing if you ended up doing Ragnarok covers too xD Also if you want to try the game, don't be shy and i'll introduce you the server where i play (just in case you don't know where to start)
@purpleschala: if you can play it. The Xbox 360 version is IMO the best version to play cuz the unlike the PS1 version in that one the enemies actually attack instead of just standing there. And the ending theme is the one you spoke of.
oh that's good to know, thanks!! i'm mainly Sony/Nintendo consoles so the only time an Xbox was in my possession was on loan to play Lost Odyssey lol. Does the Xbox version include Maria mode like the Saturn version?
