I love Castrol . It is my favourite brand, its performance is extremely fantastic I have an autopart store in Mexico and I always recommend my costumes Castrol .
I always saw my father using the classic green bottle of Castrol GTX. And still, to this day I always chose it. Ultra clean is a very good oil, too. At my 100,000mi mark, my valve guides, and rocker arms were all clean, and a nice honey-amber colour. Well done, Castrol.
I started using castol when I was in high school my truck had 67,000 Miles it's now been 11 years later and it has 260,000 miles I used to use the plain Castrol conventional GTX but now switch to the black bottle casrtol edge now to the Castrol titanium....and my truck has not one problem.....please I would like for you to study my pickup truck everyday for the past 11 years my truck has been pushed really hard in the heat and cold days of southern California and heavy stop and go traffic....I push the engine to about 6000 rpm daily and it has not failed me....the vehicle.... 1996 Nissan pickup 4 cylinder 2.4L .......
@@vincentbenfante8213 my truck is now pushing 290,000 and it’s still running like a champ I’ve now moved to Oklahoma drove my pickup from SoCal to Oklahoma and it didn’t fail me.
They should give brand new cars to people that drive 300 miles a day (taxi or rideshare drivers). Take care of all the costs and maintenance and then tear it apart after a year. That's the way to go, not by running the car on dyno.
Desde que deixei de fazer as revisões em concessionária, passei a usar Castrol GTX Ultraclean API-SN, 5W-30 semissintético. Gostei bastante, parece que o motor está trabalhando mais macio. Toyota Etios 2014 com 151.000 km.
100% CORRECT .. This test is TOTAL BS... No stop/start ..No sitting in heavy traffic with the oil getting super hot ..No heaving reving when the engine is cold... A TYPICAL engine oil/filter change lasts around 7,500 Miles before the oil gets dirty in the REAL World.. And I would NEVER trust any engine oil that has done over 10,000 Miles or is older than 1 Year old.
@@sasquatchcrew I run my car on bog-standard 5W-40 from Shell ..BUT I change it every 6 months with the oil filter Works out at about 7,000 Miles for me. I still would not trust any engine oil that has done over 10,000 Miles or had more than 1 Year of running. This is why my old petrol engine Toyota is still going strong at 204,000 Miles I expect it to get a quarter of a million miles .. Clean oil/filter all the time = long engine life.
BayAreaCichlids, I just saw an analysis on this oil and it's additive package is very close to GTX. I would use it without concern. It's a great oil for the price.
i didnt mean to go so long on my oil change in my 2009 kia sportage v6 this has held up great at almost 13000 miles im doing a oil change tomorrow no sludging thankfully !!!! 10/10
This is the best oil you can buy to keep any engine clean and alive. First use you can see how much gunk comes out and how much it revives savable engines. I have seen this oil do some amazing stuff with crud in engines.
I'm wondering if their computerized engine and load simulator mimicked city driving. I think at the beginning they note rural/freeway driving, and those have far fewer stops. Also, how often did they allow complete cool-downs and did they mix in some 32 degrees Fahrenheit to 50 degrees Fahrenheit startup cycles? Also, what about some simulated heavier loads (uphill segments, full load segments). And what about GDI intake valve buildups from vaporization/blowby? Problem is the "fuel economy" computerized cycle used in most of these tests is a very easy cycle. Decades ago Consumer Reports tracked a bunch of taxis in New York and got fine long term results from the incredibly poor oils in use back then. So what I'm mainly getting out of this test cycle is that semi-syn isn't completely terrible and won't sludge up the engine, not that it can deal with the higher stresses of aggressive American urban drivers.
At 1:48 there is a brief scan of the pistons and rings - looks like carbon build-up can anyone comment? After seeing the black carbon it makes me think the detergent pack is fine for the engine passages, but full synthetic might hold up better in the piston rings area.
Agree, the conventional oils of today has just a jab of group III GTL to cope with SN / SP categories. A more robust bases (semi synthetic or fully syn) would avoid carbon at ring pack area.
the oil filter will pick it up as its constantl ycleaning the oil passing through it , although the filter can only take so much dirt till its done its job , then a filter change is required with new oil
I saw a big scar on the cam lobe. And all the. Bearnings had big gouges on them. And notice how they avoided doing any measurements on the parts for wear.
Not really a good test, fair enough they got the car to 100k milles but what about the elements such as polluted air, harsh braking, and turning in to the road at high speeds. The new car wasnt exposed so the engine will look spotless!
Exactly. Also they would have used spotlessly clean fuel, not the garbage you often get from the local pump being pushed through a fuel filter that should have been replaced two or three times in 100,000 miles but usually never gets done, cold starts and rough owners who run the car hard from cold, and so on and so on - all the stuff that introduces particulates into the oil that speed its break down and increase abrasiveness - lab tests don't really tell you much at all unless you throw a whole lot of typically adverse conditions in to the testing like you would get in the real world. Even the very best fully synthetic oil will break down much quicker than 100,000 miles on the road. Still, I've been using Castrol oils for many years, and they are good value. I've tried moving to other brands from time to time but always come back to Castrol.
rapturekevin bring that car to Michigan lol but I do like the regular gtx I ran it for 7 k miles in my 97 2door neon 2l sohc .. And only lost a quart of oil but it was all highway. Plus I played with the car a lot hated take off and more
Plus then cleaned it all up and its a damn commercial for them so if any parts did look bad they'd swap them out for new parts to show on this commercial. Dont trust these guys further than i can throw them. I bet they only ran this engine for a day or two.
I have a 2015 Nissan Sentra that I purchased w. 77 miles on the clock. I now have 152,000 miles. I took my car w. My old automotive technology teacher from high school as he also has a shop to replace my alternator as it gave out. Mind you I have always always used Castrol Edge full synthetic since I purchased the vehicle I asked him if we drain the oil and open the engine to see what it looked like as far as wear and we were both appalled at how clean it was and how little the wear was for a car with 152k miles. To be fair I also use Fuel additives and Ethanol free fuel but all those are contributing factors to the results. He has always been a fan of Mobil1 and he's always said to use Mobil1 on his vehicles till he dies but once he saw my engine he even said hes goung to switch to Castrol Edge to try it out. He said my engine looked like it had 40-60k miles max and it has 152k miles. You want a real world test? There you go also its a good thing to add 110k of those miles were stop and go all day city driving delivering pizzas with dominoes.
CASTROL --- I dont understand why you havent been putting on the labels in Canada , that the 5w20&5w30 of Castrol GTX Ultraclean are a SYnthetic blend , since 2016. I just bought oil at Costco in Canada March 2020 and nowhere to be seen on the label does it say Synthetic Blend, the oil was made in 2019 on the bottle.
I have a 2007 Honda Civic EX not to be confused with the sporty SI. My car has 126,000 miles in it. I use Castrol Edge ( has titanium) high mileage advanced full synthetic, with Mobile One extended performance oil filter, and It doesn’t leak a single drop of oil. I set my eternal oil computer to 100% and in one year or a little more gets to 30% oil life. My friend has a garage, he changes oil and fixes breaks and tires for a living. He said the oil looked a felt great after he changed it, maybe I could go a little longer, but why risk it. The car Manuel says 15%, but at 30% for a little over a year, it more than payed for itself . I drive my car every single day in City stop and go. I don’t travel. The “ high mileage” in Castrol means it has a rejuvenator that rejuvenates the seals and helps keep The catalytic converter clean in older cars.
Edge is more performance oriented in my mind only because I run it in a 5 liter ford mustang gt but for a older engine I'd always go towards their green bottles eepically when they got more mileage. Ultra clean or if you can find, magnatec is very good. In tests the ranking of all Castrol oils are basically their tier ranking but magnatec doesn't burn off as easily so if you want a pretty good oil that's least likely to burn off but the edge professional which is the gold bottle lubricates the best. But a om642 I'd definitely run some ultra clean for a bit to try and clean it up as much as it can and run magnatec in winter since it is formulated to help coat the engine and reduce wear upon cold starts.
Google Irv Gordan. He used Castrol GTX ultra clean and drove his Volvo well over three million miles. He changed the oil and filter every three thousand miles
I guess my car should have died out 25,000 miles ago. “ 100,000 lifespan of an engine” is he serious? I do use castrol GTX high mileage synthetic blend, though, plus STP Extended life oil filter . But never tried or would try the ultra clean. My car runs like new being that it has 125,000 miles in it. I bought it from a Dr. though ..the only owner. His kids are not old enough to drive. So him or his wife were the only drivers.I agree it’s not a fair test. Testing it in a controlled environment is not real. The stop and go from city driving, puts a lot of stress on an engine.
I run a volvo v70 winh d5 2.4 diesel engine. Is the ultraclean a3b4 suitable. I have 900000 miles on same engine and change oil every 2000 miles. Been using castrol since car was new in 2005. Have done 450 oil changes in 17 years on this volvo v70
You talk about vehicles with higher mileage suffering from sludge and Ultraclean can clear this problem up but you run your test on a brand new vehicle????
Hi JoaoMagalhaes7712, Thank you for your question. We always appreciate hearing from our loyal customers! For a 1992 Toyota Corolla 1.6L 4-cyl according to Castrol’s Lubrication Recommendation Guide, 10W-30 motor oil is recommended for temperatures above 0° F. You may also use 5W-30 motor oil for temperatures below 50° F. The oil used must be labeled with the API Certification Seal. Any of the following formulas can be used in this engine: • Castrol GTX 10W-30 • Castrol GTX Ultraclean 5W-30 • Castrol GTX High Mileage 5W-30 or 10W-30 • Castrol GTX Full Synthetic 5W-30 • Castrol EDGE 5W-30 or 10W-30 • Castrol EDGE High Mileage 5W-30 or 10W-30 Based on the age of the vehicle, a high mileage oil like Castrol GTX High Mileage or EDGE High Mileage would be a great choice. Typical "economic" life of the car, when ownership and repairs are cheaper than buying a new car. Meaning how long before the car repairs at a dealership cost more than buying a new car. Most cars that stay in service longer than 100k and 10 years are getting repairs by their owners which changes the economics completely; even an indie shop can extend the value to cost ratio of ownership. Except for my dentist with his 120 miles a day freeway commute (60 each way). His car ran up 350k before he got rear ended and totaled. The benefits of freeway driving with no stop and go in non-snow, non-desert, non-towing country.
I think Castrol makes a very fine synthetic product - I used it in my car but with car maker intervals - but the question we all want to know, is semi-synthetic still even in the hunt anymore with turbos and GDI. And American drivers.
what's the difference in between this and regular GTX? I have high compression Honda VTEC engine that's been running regular GTX 5-30 since it had 5k miles, it now has 110000 miles and I still use regular GTX 5-30 every 3000 miles. My concern is now I can't find regular GTX anywhere, only this ultra clean Wich I suspect has more detergents and I'm coming up on my next oil change. I'm really concerned that the added detergents will cause leaks by cleaning the small amount of beneficial sludge around seals.
Hey Blake! It looks like Toyota recommends a drain interval every 6,000 miles for the 2007 Toyota Corolla. Drain intervals are dependent on the condition of vehicle and driving conditions. If the driving conditions are more severe, the oil should be changed earlier than the recommended mileage. Hope this helps!
I am curious about using this in my Toyota AE101 Corolla. My car has a 5AFE engine and it is currently leaking oil. Both front and rear seals have worn out due to the previous owner using a lower quality oil.
