If you want the super abridged of the aftermath of this stream: - People are reminded Gold River has a silver tongue and he's ridiculously good at just talking at a personal level. - People are generally positive on how it addressed things that were previous not addressed. - It was a lot of lip service and promises, so many Korean players are willing to give Smilegate a chance to prove themselves until Winter LOA ON of this year (to make good on promises). - There is just a lot of praise for Gold River, most likely because compared to the three leaders he has a lot of charisma and a better way with words. There are still many skeptics. But the ball is in their court to deliver now. If they can't, the backlash will be even worse than before since their word is their stake (they have a good track record of fulfilling promises they make, so now they're accountable for a lot of promises they just made).
Props to Saint to own up to it, albeit, the major have already quit after the burnt out and never looked back. If we started without popularizing the 6-man roster, maybe, just maybe the game wouldn't be this bad. Although earlier, there wasn't much to do anyway so it was okay to play many alts. However, we all got used to playing at least 6 and the up-keep demand was just too much...
Honestly, dont even play this anymore but watched through to the end and that apology felt like one of the most genuine apologies i've ever seen a content creator give. Usually it feels fake but this one hit different. Fair play Saint, that in itself deserves respect.

great recap of the livestream. as a korean who speaks and read korean, i must say a few things: 1) there's a lot of focus by content creators on inven, and i feel like at some point there's a bit too much of a focus on this "vocal minority". while i think the sentiments about the game are widespread, the broad playerbase is not as vitriol as those that are actively posting. i wish content creators would not try to just look at inven to understand korean player sentiment. 2) this issue on china (and in turn how lost ark players viewed SG) was particularly sensitive these days, as one of the major policies being up for discussion recently is limiting the access to voting and health insurances for overseas chinese in south korea. for korean youth, there's been an ongoing animosity towards china regarding claims over korean cultural items and heritage - not just land and history, but food, clothing etc. it's hard for me to not see how koreans are reacting without this context. 3) there's also i feel a lot of misconceptions about censorship in china and which i must correct you saintone. the issue of "red" and china is not just tied to the ccp colors. red as a symbolic color of wealth and fortune has existed well before the ccp and the practice of not using red for ominous events/portrayals (ie. funerals) are commonplace. also in the gaming regulation, depictions of blood are particularly forbidden. also many westerners are not aware of where or how these censorships come to be. in china, there are many active interest groups (namely parent groups and feminist groups) actively pushing/lobbying for censorship and limitations on games and depiction of women, and in reality the CCP caters to these groups. so it's not simply a situation where CCP just does what it wants to. realistically, you can't maintain a government with a population with 1.4 billion this way.

Even though I don't play Lost Ark anymore, cause I got burned out so bad, used to no life the game, I do miss it sometimes, I miss my ayaya and my scrapper and so on. The apology doesn't affect me personally because I never gave a crap about any of that FOMO shit. If anything, raiding was originally an afterthought for me and I've really only raided on 4 characters at a time tops. People wondered how the hell I can keep up with even two despite having barely raided, plenty of time to spare to do all the horizontal content, and even enough extra gold to stuff my characters' wardrobes. I think western release making things a lot faster and easier did play into all that. But, I don't think anyone could have predicted the fact that our version has been less grindy, mainly because people at the time didn't trust AGS to make it happen. Still respect to you for that apology, though. As for the rest of the stream... just to show how important it is to get someone who can speak in front of an audience, and that it's something you can't just find a random person to do well. I can't imagine if YoshiP ever steps down from FFXIV only to watch the game going to shit, that's what Lost Ark has been looking like right now and it really saddens me.

Thank you Saintone for your apology, it was very meaningful to hear that from you and I really appreciate it. I had severe depression and it indeed made it significantly worse for a full year to play 12+ characters and I constantly felt like I was falling behind if I didn't keep making more characters. After doing Brel hard on release, I realised the stress of having to maintain my characters took away any fun or enjoyment I could have for the raids. So I quit and a lot of my friends were very disappointed, I accept responsibility for min-maxing the fun out of a game and there were plenty of friends who told me to chill but hearing your apology made me realise that there are people out there who understand the pressure, and I wasn't just insane and sick for wanting to play that many characters everyday.
i love what you are putting out for the community saint, you really are a big figure for me personally and you always motivate me to push further, be it lost ark or actually in life, due to life i cant watch all ur streams anymore but i am always lurking. stay safe, healthy and thank you very much for all your hard work
The lore of LOA is actually quite good, sadly it is presented in probably the most annoying and tedious manner I've ever seen done any game. I never played a game where you need to speak to the same npc 10 times to complete a single quest line. Or a game where there are waiting bars while your character performs an action. In general I never played another game with so much waiting involved. You also have to wait 10s for each auction item after a raid is done. Why are they fixing brel raid wait times on meteors, but we will still have a daily that requires us to sit and wait for like 3 minutes? Thank you for this update though, I am pleasantly surprised they actually addressed so many things and did it very well from the sound of it. Hopefully this is actually the beginning of a new path for the game and things can actually start to get better from here.
That tedious part is done by intention. It is all by design to keep you enslaved. Eventually all these tedious inconveniences influence your mind to pull out the credit card

Front-/head attack is one of those things that make Lost Ark combat so great imo, really hope they don't ruin entropy. I fall asleep playing hit master classes
They could help Entropy by having classes with more control over the boss itself, allowing for better windows to help out the front/back attackers. They already utilize taunts in some fights, allowing some classes to be able to keep control on bosses so they spin around and random agro less often would be all they need. Outside of this I agree Entropy is fun
Classes that uses entropy set currently doesn't work without entropy, because their stat is balanced around entropy, which is more powerful than other set. So they are forced to use one. However, some bosses' design simply doesn't work well with entropy, and that is why a lot of people think that it needs to be changed. Gold River once said and repeated on this broadcast that Front and Back attack should be a bonus. And I think that is what most people agree.
@@wlsdnr0710 But they could modify the game so back attacking isn't super hit-or-miss, allow more taunt-able bosses, make the taunt last slightly longer, make it so an entire boss fight isn't just chasing around something that zips zaps teleports and 180s every half second. If the boss fights themselves allowed for a more controlled approach, you'd have less people complaining about back attacking
One thing that I always liked about lost ark was that they were never afraid to completely restructure and change the game. I look at all of the jokes of how things were in KR Season 1 and seeing how much the game changed with the introduction of tier 3 and legion raids. I really hope that they continue to revamp the way the game systems work, and I hope they change it dramatically. Clearly the player base has found the current structure completely stale.

I played for a year and half and called it quits 3 months ago. Played 6 characters doing dailies everyday because of FOMO with the upcoming contents. I luv the game but despise their alt system along with 2x Chaos Dungeon. I've never wanted to play more than 2 characters but was pressure to keep up with my friends that were p2w players. Finally I said to myself, I have enough problems in the real world and it's time to get back to reality. I feel like a new person since I quit. I'm getting 6-8hrs of sleep full of energy when I wake up. I've lost about 10-15lbs since I quit. Exercise 4-5 times a week and I'm focus on eating healthy. I'm more than burnt out during my time with LAO and this was because I listen to Streamers recommendation like Saint, ATK, Stoopz, and Zeals etc... It is not their fault how I spent my time but their influence and experience in the game caused players like myself to follow their recommendation. I honestly think I would still play LAO today if I kept it at 2 characters maximum. Anyways, I'm glad I quit and don't plan on coming back.

I only main and play one character a buffed paladin of 1585, so many of my friends told me make more alts you cant progress like that which of course streamers told them... ironically they all left due to exhaustion but here i am with only one character moved to high item level...tho i made alts later did some argos then left them to dust...knew if one character has this mucu grind the others will have much more and doing same thing again and again, its so boring and frustating... thus didnt make alts... You are a cool one saint...always be like this...
Listening to this video as I'm finishing all the weekly stuff I didn't manage to do yet, was interesting experience. Especially with the ending :) Anyway the one hope I'll retain for Lost Ark, even if I were to stop/minimize playing, is that Gold River (and original team members?) will be there to finish the story, because I really want to know the original planned conclusion and what exactly is Regulus up to (if he even got some sort of plan for Arkesia). So keep making the lore videos ;) While I read everything ingame it's still my favorite to watch.
I quit about a year ago (few weeks after Valtan release) after burning out on alts and feeling overwhelmed by the constant pressure/fomo of daily/weekly activities, despite absolutely loving the story & combat. Not having servers for my region was a contributing factor as well. Haven't viewed any Lost Ark content since then but watched this video through to the end and I really appreciate your apology here Saint. Glad to hear a healthier approach is working for you
it is not you guys (korean content creators) fault, if anything it is amazon that should have realized that the game needed more changes from the korean version too fit better with a western audience

Most of what Gold River proposes are interesting QoL but i doubt theyll make a big impact to the game. I think a overhaul or rework of the progression system is in need and if they cant do that they can just do a seasonal servers for those who arent interested in the never ending grind. Think BDO, they pretty much are in a great spot now thanks to many casual friendly system they slowly implemented throughout the years.
About the ending, whenever you told chat most Korean players only have 2 characters that really brought me into perspective. 6 characters was a cap Smilegate set to stop people from abusing the system, they didn't design the game with the intention of people actually generating all this gold.
Wtf, they absolutely designed likes that. Simplex formula : play the game and absurd amount of hours with 6 ( or even more ) chat and Min/max the Gold/mats generation or Just pay real Money. It s not only designed for this buy even worst, It goes Deep into creating addiction to the players by giving all this repetition/chore Daily/weekly limited activities. Well what i mean Is...don t lie to yourself believing they didnt design a casino online.

great video saint. the end was unexpected but honestly felt like it was something i needed to hear. I quit lost ark after playing 6-12 characters a day for a year trying to stay active so I could participate in content. by the end i was extremely resentful and frustrated. however, it was my decision to play that much. was I influenced by watching streamers? probably. in the end though, the responsibility is my own. keep up the great content saint, always appreciative of the work you do.
Lately the world has been suffering from a disconection betwwen power (influence) and responsability. i currently play 6 characters at 1540 or well above but it's purely because i enjoy the classes. for a very long time in the beginning i played only one class, then 2, then 3 for a while as i was trying more and more classes with the express event. Slayer launch is the first time i had a 6-man roster i considered active, but it's much more for fun than for efficiency. when i run out of gold doing dumb shit it helps that i can run raids on them and get a lot of gold back, but i doubt that they're all paying me back for the gold i've invested in them so far, but to me thats okay! i swiped a bit when i was main swapping cause i wanted to make the ilevel for a new raid at the time, but beyond that it's been a chill time, and i don't even remember the last time when i had no rest on my dailies and 3/3 gold claims across all my 6 characters. i play what i feel like and only really turbofarm when i feel like i need to. i speak from a privileged position because not only have i been playing since day 1, i also stream the game so getting lobbies together is much easier for me, but anytime i get a new player in chat i always tell them a couple alts is more than enough and to only keep those alts much below your main. long before i got into pve in this game i've always enjoyed your content because you always have a level-headed, calm, and informed approach to everything. it's no coincidence that the joke about you being the next director was born - you have professionalism and poise of a worthy pillar of this community! always appreciate your insight. here's to hoping we can continue to play the game we love with confidence and enjoyment.
Good video! Found it funny that you called Gold river a sidereal who comes in and saves the day, but it seems that is something he may have accomplished through his words. As someone who plays on NA E, I hope to see many positive things happen for the playerbase in KR and everywhere else too.
I don't like the Guardian Raid idea. A lot of people struggle as it is with guardians on i level. I've even been in groups where we wipe, as it can be that punishing. So making it harder doesn't do any good if they already struggle to clear it. Doesn't matter how much they buff the rewards if people can't even clear it. Then again I'm speaking for the casual player and most of them left, so maybe this proposal will only help the hardcore not leave.
Balls of steel for the apology. I do not think it is your fault though. IMO the fault lies in how AGS/SG did early catch-up. You might recall that originally the events that drop honing books/mats etc. weren't back-to-back thing, they lasted two week, dropped less mats and usually there was big break in-between. That meant that if you really wanted to do newest content on release you were forced to grind 6 characters by the content release cadence. Only with Brel release did they finally loosen up and give up a LOT more leeway when playing less than 6 chars.
I think they should probably go for the ff14 approach regarding dungeon and gearing. For example, in ff14 you can queue for something called duty roulette for several activities, in lost ark it would probably be for abyssal dungeons, legion raids, guardian raids and abyss raid, each one getting a seperate queue. Let's say you would queue for a dungeon roulette, that means you can randomly get into any dungeon that you have completed with restrictions such as in the challenge dungeon. Preferably the system is going to choose the dungeon for which a mokoko is also searching. That has the effect that new players can get somewhat carried by veterans but at least the new players will be able to experience the dungeon and not get gate kept. The roulette player on the other hand would get a currency that can provide him with new gear. So let's say I was able to do valtan but I'm struggeling with completing vykas. Instead of giving up, I could do the roulettes and buy myself the vykas gear through the roulette currency. After I'm able to beat vykas I unlock the brelshaza gear and can either get the brelshaza gear through roulette currency or through just doing brelshaza. To make it viable for veteran players they could also make the roulette currency be exchangable for upgrade materials. It's sounds like more homework but I would say, make this a once per account thing (encourages players to play their main more) and reduce the chaos dungeons + guardian raids per week. I myself stopped playing the game because the dailies were not fun and took to long to do while all the content I would want to do on my main or my alts was content that took waaay to long to find a group in. Instead of wasting 1-2 hours to actively find a group I would rather just do some side activities while being in a queue but there is also the problem that there just aren't that many side activities in lost ark once you've finished all the island tokens and rapports and such. Maybe I would finally do some life skills again while waiting in queue, I haven't touched that ever since the automatic life skill update xD

the brel "meteor fix" kinda looks pretty easy to do, just make it so when the golden meteor appears the broken tiles apear before the meteors hit the ground, i think that should do the trick

There's a ton of hurdles involved with doing that. Typically, the companies that can do that have global infrastructure and usually handle publishing in all regions they handle at once. It's unfortunately a ton of work to be a developer and work with multiple different publishers to service a game region. This is why goliath games like FF14 aren't able to even do it for the regions they aren't self-publishing. Ironically, the Korean version of FF14 is several patch cycles behind the rest of the world because it's one of the few regions SE doesn't publish themselves. It's a pipe dream, sadly. The best case scenario is getting them a few weeks or months apart (most KR MMOs get it down to about 6 months difference for major contents).
Precisely because every region is it's own world. Every region can be managed differently and a company will make way more money by splitting us up like this. The Korean version of the game is sooooooo much more pay2win people don't even realize, the western version is incredibly f2p friendly in comparison and thus they make a lot more money from koreans who are used to such RNG/gamba systems. Not to mention something that are culturally very different in each region that could cause a controversy somewhere else, that's why china needs a lot of censorship. Or why they couldn't bring the artist class as it was in KR to the west because it could cross a very thin line of how they show a little girl in a game. These are things that are very well thought out so that they won't be caught in a problem.

Literally no reason for the apology. No one could see the future QoL that would be added and it was added after the global version lost like 70% of its real player population.
Not enough people were doing alt gear stuff in season 1. if best gear comes from raid, everyone will still be raiding. Just like in season 1 when guardian raids were the end game.
You hit the nail on the head there they need t work on removing some of the timers to make the game more enjoyable. there is a million and one timers in the game even for trade skills adding tension to those things that should be relaxing like fishing for example you fish and have a minute timer and if you fail to hit the minigame you get annoyed because the majority of the reward is in the minigame but your fishing you should be chilling and chatting with other people fishing there also.
Just to clarify, the new guardian raid recolor was not because it was more interesting. It was said that they changed to purple because the "red bat" was very similar to another game monster. I am not sure which one. People say that it is the mount from WOW and some people said its from Monster Hunter. I do not know if this is true or not, believe what you want to believe
How about a max count for gold income raids per week as now, but make it roster wide. Let the 1 character players do the same raid multiple times on the same character. If we take the 18 gold income raids per week, as the amount is set now, but make it possible to do all 18 on one character, or one raid on 18 characters, but let the user decide. Maybe put a cap, so the same raid can only be done a maximum of 6 times per week, to incentivize a more stable gold economy, and make players do all raids, instead of only the most recent. I dunno, but this is just a thought I've had this past week.
Personally, I think one of the best QoL updates to the game for new players would be solo training raids - player and 3-7 LA bots. This way people who aren't comfortable with learning in a group, or are being gate-kept, due to being new, have a way of progressing and learning a raid as well. Everyone can learn at their own pace, and players don't have to worry about making mistakes or scheduling issues that come up with groups. That way they could also integrate gear that doesn't involve raiding per se, as it would be solo content. There'll still be learning groups, since some people enjoy progressing with a group. But also an alternative for those who do better learning on their own.

I quit the game 700hrs into it (around 6 weeks after release), I went as hard as you can possibly go on an MMO launch. Was playing 5-6 characters, doing every daily but that was just me wanting to go fast. I come from WoW so end-game is where it's at for me but in Lost Ark at launch technically there was no end-game, we were just progressing for the sake of it so I ended up getting extremely burnt out and the thought of logging into to do dailies felt awful. No one forced me to do it, and I know if I took it my time with it maybe playing 2 characters or just 1 I truly enjoyed I could've played for a lot longer. But at the end of the day the mismanagement in the western version would've made me quit eventually, games like Lost Ark have so much potential if the devs/publishers weren't so stupid to realize they're only doing harm by incentivizing the "daily logins" and intentionally making inconveniences. I know players including myself would pay $40-60 dollars per expansion if the game wasn't P2W garbage, all we want is good combat and content releases at a reasonable pace if that means paying the price for a Triple A game every year or two so be it. Games being advertised as "F2P" lie to you, they're free to try out if anything, but to play? you either invest a shit ton of money or your whole time into it. And no one wants to throw away either of those things.
