HWU (Hotwheels Unleashed) fills a need for a good racing game. I have a running 's*** list' of companies/developers that I refuse to buy from. EA has a good monopoly on racing games, so not a lot is left after browsing.
Sure its Hotwheels toy cars, but you are rewarded for racing and can spend the coin (you cannot buy this with real money) on upgrades, tracks or new cars in 'blind boxes' (you cannot buy this with real money). The gameplay is solid and the drifting system works a lot like Ridge Racer.
In this video I tackle the [Looney Tunes] tracks. The further you progress in the game, the harder the tracks will become. One of the races in this set of tracks is one of my favorites. Even I had trouble at some points. When you go from 'easy' to 'medium' difficulty there is a huge jump in AI skill. I am pretty good at 'medium', but will probably get left behind if I keep making the game harder.
The game is way more fun than it should have been- and it was on sale. I will probably not be buying the sequel since it is a closed paywall in terms of content via a tiered system: "spend this much with us and get these items!" I don't play ball with that crud.
