Cat 657 Scrapers Moving Dirt

This footage is from LB3 Enterprises' Village 8 project in Otay, California. They're making way for an entirely new neighborhood using a fleet of Cat 657G and 657E scrapers. I could watch these monsters gobble up earth to the tune of 30+ cubic yards per pass.
The material they're moving is near perfect for these machines. Thanks to the ripping and leveling done by the D10T, they're loading extremely quickly and are on a nice and tight cycle. Dirt doesn't move much faster than this!

My interest in earth movers,started off with scrapers,in the late 70,s our neighbor Mike took us to his site,where we rode around in Terex scrapers and dozers all day,great fun, been hooked ever since.

I'm missing something? What are the "scrapers" (single or double) doing that's different and/or better then the bulldozer? ;-) I thought the first scraper took out the high spots, transfers dirt to the second scraper that drops the dirt into the low areas but that's not the case. There must be capabilities that a scraper has that the bulldozer doesn't to warrant it's cost?

name a machine other than the scraper that can load itself and haul on roads at speeds of 40MPH? It's the most efficient machine of it's class for load haul dump when you have to truck the material distances.

That's a good point but I thought it was for leveling the ground not just moving material around?

@@TairnKA does both. It scrapes up dirt holds in the bowl then transfers it to a low spot and the basically level the land out to grade for houses or road building. They can even do bulk mining.

centsless fabrication so are SoCal and LB3 competitors or are the affiliates in some way? Just from years of watching there videos on here and being a fan of them they look to have a first class operation.
