Cat attacks owl in mid flight 

Guys, the uploader already said in the description that the owl wanted the bunny that his cat has caught. The owl maybe wanted to spook the cat away but the cat fought back. Also, uploader said (as a response to a comment) that the owl's wing was dislocated and he called his local raptor center to have him fixed. Meaning he got a close enough look to see what kind of owl it was & see its trouble and uploader said (as a response to a separate comment) that it's a Barn Owl. I think uploader's first hand info is enough confirmation. Lastly, can we stop fighting as to who's the bad guy here? Both animals act on instincts to defend themselves and to feed. Owls kill cats, cats kill owls. That's just nature. No animal is greater than the other nor any of them deserves to die because they hunt to live. Geez I know this comment is irrelevant as the video is 6 years old and Mickey here is already passed (bless him), but I just wanted to give my two cents about it.

seems like the owl was going for the cat, why else would the owl be flying so low near the cat..

Unfortunately Mickey had to be euthanized last week due to old age. We had him for 18 years and he really was a great cat. Living in the country, cats will be cats. Our family misses him very much.

The internet makes it seem like an owl is some invincible creature that can alaways kill a cat, but I think a large house cat would be a horned owl more times than not. They are way more durable with more weapons (teeth and four claws per foot)

My mother, year’s ago owned a cat that would lure birds into range. Don’t think it ever took on an owl, but the yard was always littered with dead birds. As a kitten, the cat had been attacked by a bird. Must have instilled a life long hatred for birds in that cat.

Some animal has been killing my cats very late at night. Mostly, I suspect a coyote is doing it, but one person did tell me owls will kill cats too. This video helped me understand. Thanks for posting.

I sincerely hope that you brought the owl into a licensed wildlife rehabilitation for treatment. It appeared unable to fly at the end of the video.

Cats are crazy brave. We get black bears a few times a year just passing through. And they will hang around for a week or two. And the barn cats always attack them and keep them away from the house and buildings. After the first few slashes at the bears face they always leave and never come back until the next year.

We had a big tomcat that would lay in the yard and bait the young redtail hawks, when they swooped down to try their luck, he jumped up and grabbed them. He lived for 16 years and probably killed 8 or 9 hawks.

This looks similar to a video I caught on one of those "Unlikely Animal Friends". However, in that case, the cat and the owl chased each other all over the place. They were best friends. The owl would fly just low enough to the ground to allow the cat a fighting chance. Freaking ridiculously cute. In fact, when any of us feel disillusioned and hopeless, we should turn to Unlikely Animal Friends. Soon after we do so, the clanging, blood soaked fan blades making a ton of noise and scaring the crap out of all the bats in the belfry (the belfry that just so happens to be in my head), all of the cacophony segues to silence, and all of the images plaguing our minds will fade to transparency. I mean, come on! Those Dachshunds zipping around, and yipping at A FULL GROWN FREAKING LION! Or the deer and the dog that became so integrated that a good bit of their body language/mannerisms stopped being recognizable as deer or dog behavior. Rather it was some never before seen, unique behavior commonplace to only the two of them. This was especially evident in the forms of play that they created. It was pretty amazing. Then go look up the lion and hie old old rescuer. Beyond amazing. You can watch it on RU-vid I am sure.

I''ve trained the community tnvr cats around my home to hussle inside when I hear the local owl, that resides periodically in the wooded area next to me, that lets me know he's on the prowl (I learned from experience to keep the young cats and kittens inside till they're big enough to take care of themselves)... Too bad I can't do the same for the baby racoons... Nor can I stop the big adult racoons from attacking and eating the feral kittens I couldn't rescue in time... Nature just isn't fair sometimes.
