I have a calico who I think is dilute. Her sister’s black was clearly black and her orange was more brown. However, her black is grey(blue) and the orange she has looks to be a pale ginger.

I love your videos so much. Great to see straight forward science education here on youtube. My cat is a blue classic tabby and I think she is probably the most beautiful creature in the universe, and I love learning about what makes her that way.

My cat always keeps me guessing on whether she's a cream tabby or a fawn tabby because her stripes are so inconsistent in different lighting

I have a question; if a dilute carrier has kitten withs a non-dilute carrier, will the kittens carry dilute?

-----D-------d D-D/D---D/d D-D/D---D/d That's a 50% chance of not carrying dilute & a 50% chance of carrying dilute. This is a pretty simple question easily answered by a basic punnett square, so I recommend watching the 1st video in this series or otherwise brushing up on punnett squares! Never any shame in not knowing things or in needing help, of course!! I'm always happy to answer questions like this. but it's always better to get a solid grasp on the basics before hopping into more difficult/advanced things like these videos.

ive seen people mention a dilute modifier gene (Dm i think?) that 'caramelizes' the color if the cat is Dm/d or Dm/Dm, is this an actual thing?

I've heard of caramel! it does exist, but off the top of my head I don't know its inheritance model or allele letters

What is a taupe cat? From my research into the color I'm guessing that's the clan generator's weird way of saying fawn? And is caramel just creme? I generated a new clan so I'm gonna have more questions and likely more cats to show you

caramel & taupe I believe are modifiers of dilution? I wasn't able to find enough info on them to cover them, but I plan on revisiting someday :3

@@littlehungrywarrior I've done a little research on them, and I've made the executive decision that I'm going to actively ignore that part of the generation, and make those cats the regular dilute versions, bc I can't tell the difference in the pictures I've seen

I really don’t know anything about it but I did find a chart covering caramel while looking for what a pseudo tabby is, taupe is apparently lilac based caramel? And caramel is some kind of modifier? They called it double dilution? But the ginger one was “apricot” and didn’t look diluted? Hopefully this helps? P.S if you want to find the chart I just searched “what is a pseudo tabby”

@@Annadog40 I haven't heard of it in cats :O If you have more info I'll look into it I know caramel exists as a modifier... I haven't looked into that one yet
